Strange Battery Behaviour

Generally I am quite happy with the battery life - I can get 2 or 3 days of moderate use if I make sure that no app is running in the background.

But especially when the battery is below 50%, it sometimes drops very quickly in charge level when I start using the phone. I think it has to do with power drain - if Wifi, display, video/music and maybe GPS are on, the battery is most likely to drop. It can drop by 20% within minutes. Sometimes it comes back up once the use is a bit lighter.

Has anybody seen a similar behaviour, or is my battery a bad one?

PS: I am on Vodafone Gingerbread, build 885, so there is only one party to blame...

I've had something similar on stock gingerbread. Battery was fluctuating all over the place. Haven't seen this on ICS yet. But my battery drops very quickly when I switch mobile data on. Else I get a day, two at most of battery life.

Well what I am about to say is a dumb question ...cause I'm sure you did that ...did you calibrate the battery after applying ICS update with Battery Calibration app for example ?

My battery has always been really bad - If I take my phone off charge at 7:00 AM it might well have run out by 2PM, even if all I have done is maybe watch a short video on YouTube and send maybe 10 texts (moderate to light usage). This is on stock B885.

However, I just upgraded to AtomicMod B888, so I'll see if that has made any noticeable difference. If not I might get a second battery for it. Is there any way of charging the battery outside of the phone?

If you search for "Huawei G300 battery charger" there seem to be a few suppliers of suitable external chargers and/or spare batteries.

I find I get about 6 hours of heavy usage (video and/or streaming) out of the battery. If I only watched a short video on Youtube and sent 10 texts I would expect my battery to still be close to full at 2pm if taken off charge at 7am.

However the phone seems paranoid about battery life and often warns me it is at 29% power when in reality it is still probably about double that and I can watch another few hours of video after the warning). This on stock B885

Battery calibration is a myth as confirmed by Dianne Hackbourne, Google engineer. I get a full day out of mine and I use mine extensively

Yes, that is exactly my problem. Often the battery level goes up again after some time. But the warnings are certainly annoying, and I even had the phone shut down on me once.
