Confused abut storage options on ICS...

This is not the first time I have come across an ICS device that has a large internal additional memory that is not used; my girlfriends tablet has the same issue. So the G300 has a 2Gb internal drive that is not used for anything? Seems a waste? My gf's tablet has an 8Gb internal device that has the same issue. Surely it makes sense that this large drive is used for something? Andriod tells me that since I switched to the SD card for storage, switching to the internal storage will cause all sorts of issues. Seems poorly thought out? Maybe I am just being a dummy and don't understand how to use it? Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated. Maybe there is a super app out there that sorts all of this out and makes it a breeze?

I'm not really clear on how this works either. Things seemed simpler on Android 2.x where internal wasn't mounted as a virtual SD card. the other issue is when you put an actual SD card in, it mounts as /MNT/SDCARD2 on Infusion, or /MNT/EXTSD on some other roms, which cause problems for apps which look in /MNT/SDCARD for content (think music players, emulators etc)

If i ever figure out how to change the mount-points I'll be doing that but for the moment we're at the mercy of the rom makers :)

If you put the sdcard, it is mounted as /mnt/sdcard2, and internal memory is /mnt/sdcard, but then you can change this just going to "Storage" in Setting and change the option for the memory that is going to be used as a default. So set the External SD as the defaut memory and then it will be mounted as /mnt/sdcard and internal will be /mnt/sdcard2..

If you want to do it manually, you can edit /system/etc/internal_sd.fstab and change the mount points, but I think is not needed to edit files when you can do it just in Settings.

Of course if you change the default storage once you have installed some app on it, the system won't find them (or any file that was pointed to /mnt/sdcard) if you dont copy the files from one memory to the other.

Regards.
