G300 Sound/Ascending Ringtone Issue

Hi guys, first post so go easy eh!

I've just bought a G300 for the Mrs but she's complained about missing calls/texts due to not hearing it.

I believe it's a common issue going off the search on here but was just wondering the best easiest way to rectify this.

I tried a firmware update via the phone settings but it comes back with none.

It's brand new with Vodafone but i've had it unlocked for me as she's not with them, not bothered really about the Vodafone rubbish on there just need the sound fixing really.

It's currently on B892 according to the build info.

Cheers.

If ICS upgrade is already available to your device then do it. If not, install EQUALIZER app to circunvent that issue, it will solve your problem. You'll even have to lower ring tone volume after that. :)

Not sure about ICS but will give Equalizer app a go.

Thanks btw.

There is a 'Sound' setting called 'Increasing ringtone', it's worth checking that it's NOT ticked.

The low volume problem was fixed ages ago and should not be a problem in B892. Have you checked that increasing ringtone is not checked and that the ring volume is set to full? The ring volume is a separate fader from main volume.

As suggested above an equaliser app can increase things further. Just push all the frequency band filters up to max and save it as "Just Loud" - I do that to amplify quiet music over headphones. Don't find I need it for ringtones and normal phone audio. I use "Music Volume EQ" but an older version as the ads became more annoying in more recent versions. Unfortunately it has no paid ad-free option.

You could also pop into a Vodafone shop and compare your ringtone volume with one of their demo phones.

Cheers guys but there is no option under Sound settings on mine to do this.

Increasing ringtone is most likely the issue but that option was removed around B885 I think, so you are unfortunately locked into increasing ringtone with no way to turn it off.

There might be an app that could be a good work around so maybe someone could recommend one that would work.

Hmm, I have "Increasing Ringtone" in Gr2 (B888 based) - Just below Phone Ringtone. I'll maybe restore my B892 stock backup later to check if it has gone in that but why would they remove it?

I was on the official VDF B892 and had no problem with the sound, nor now with official VDF B936.

In ICS it's a non issue because the ringtone volume starts, and stays at its maximum. But in GB it really is a pain in the arse for sure, my brother is on stock GB B892 and he always complains about the removal of that option, however until you upgrade or wait for the OTA ICS then you'll just have to put up with it unfortunately, unless of course someone can recommend an app for you that will increase the ringtone.

And that app is the Equalizer.

Thanks, it does make it louder when pushed to the Max under Custom however it makes normal Music playing sound awful it's that loud!

She'll have to make do until i have the Gonads to update it.

I currently have exactly the same issue, I 'downgraded' to GB (I think it was 885 [Voda UK]) then the phone did an OTA update to 892 and is stuck with an ascending volume that starts far too low (and I confirm no setting to de-select ascending volume). I assume the 885 had the ascending volume option selectable and it was selected when the update to 892 happened. Is there a simple way to go back to 885 to deselect the ascending volume option then allow the OTA to 892 again?

You wouldn't believe that they'd remove a user selectable option without at least reverting the setting to default (off)!!!

Will an upgrade (back to ICS) DEFINITELY remove the ascending volume ringer issue?

For GB you could install modaco Gr2 then untick ascending ringtone. You could then restore a cwm backup of your b892 and see if it has stuck.

Thanks for the suggestion @Hogweed, I'm tending to assume that CWM would restore the issue along with everything else but I may give this a go anyway this evening after work.

I'm sticking on Gr2 anyway. I have B892 stock on a backup (I restore stock every time a new OTA is released then make a new backup of upgraded stock).
