Apart from batt calibration, how else can one improve SF2 batt life? :-)

Hello guys.

I have a Crescent, and on it is a ROM, but I have no idea which one, as someone installed it before I owned it. Here are some particulars from "Settings >> About Phone":

I'm at a loss as to which ROM this is, but the battery life is simply appalling. I have calibrated the battery properly, and the phone is only around 2 months old. It was on charge all night, and by the time it had been removed from charge for only 3.5 hours, was down to 41% battery!

If you can help?

Thank you :)

@@ EDIT @@

I've just installed "CPU Master", and set it to "ondemand" with 122Mhz min, 787Mhz max - will that help?

That's stock speeds. As for battery, that's quite impressive, as I get much less

@glossywhite i think that is kickass rom (if you describe boot animation of your rom i can certainly tell you what rom you have as all developers change boot animation for theyrs roms)...If you have CWM you can try flashing Cyanogenmod 7 as i get best battery life from it .

P.S.Also you can chech if front camera is wroking on your rom if it is working that mean you have stock rom or Kickass or Fish'n'Chips and i dont thinks you have F'n'C..

@glossywhite ok wait ... Do you flash your roms or you use backups ? I alwayse use fresh install rather then backup because there is many things can go wrong. Also if you left your GPS and Wifi on and use your phone constantly it will drain quickly...Flash again CM7 and turn off WiFi and GPS also set your network to GSM (use only 2g network i think is exact option) if u have weather widget set it to refresh every 2+ hours also if u have twitter acount set it to refresh 2+ hours so you can save your battery. With that options and CM7 rom i can get 1,5-2 days use of my phone...Also you got to know that display have biggest battery consumption so set your brightness to automatic or pick up some lower values.

am on fnc and by around 4 hours am down too about 60% of battery... after having 5 other Android phones before this one I see this as quite normal in battery drain... I do have 3g always on, screen as 50% and check my emails periodically, Get and send upto 70 texts(have certain twitters sent as texts and forward texts to my work phone automatically) bit of online browsing and even some mapping using gps plus a phone call or two... OH and am clocked to 902mhz... All in all am quite happy with battery on the phone and I suspect if I disable 3g, lower screen brightness and down clock I would get better battery life so it's fine for me...

Okay, so it's now solved. Orange swapped out my SF2 for a brand new one, and it's been off charge for 10hrs now and still has 55% battery left. VERY impressed with Orange's customer support; I reported the issue Sun night, and a brand new one came at 5pm yesterday!

10 hours of standby or what ?

10 hours of "moderate" usage, including surfing, emailing, calling, photographing etc :)

I unlocked it, de-branded it with "flb2-r2a.zip" and the stock Orange kernel, and then ran a battery calib app when charged. Super duper! More than happy :-)

Well i am glad you sorted out your problem...

P.S. If you have time flash Cyanogenmod 7 and try it i am wandering how much will your battery last becaue i am getting 30-40% better battery consumption and time with CM7 kernel then with OC TMV kernel.

Your battery life basically depends on your phone "sleeping" properly when it's not in use. It should go into a low power mode.

My first advice would be to make sure GPS is turned off if you don't need it, it uses A LOT of battery. I use CM9 with the wireless set to turn off when the phone isn't in use and I get a few days battery life with moderate use. Leaving the phone overnight (I use it as an alarm clock too) only loses around 5%

Secondly, If you're really concerned about battery life and want to keep a close eye on your battery usage my recommendation would be to get this, it will show you exactly what is keeping your phone awake and for how long.

Thirdly, Google Talk is a bad culprit for waking the phone too so if you're never going to use it I would definitely recommend uninstalling/disabling it using Titanium Backup.

Also, apparently some routers can cause the phone to wake periodically when they refresh your wireless ip address, a cure for this is to manually set your ip address, of course, this might not be feasible or desired if you're going to use more than one wireless network or any public networks.

I dont have problem with sleep mode it is working fine with every kernel i just get little bit battery drain with rom that are using Fuzzra OC kernel for TMV.. for example while in deep sleep mode for 7 hours (while i sleep too ;) CM7 kernel loose prox. 2-3-4% battery while OC TMV kernell loose 5-6+ and i have identical settings for every rom i use (i mena on cpu-brightness and such things that effects battery )...But maybe is something else idk i just can tell you what did i noticed.

P.S.Any advice is more then welcome :)

It's sorted now - I had it replaced; didn't you read that? :)

Nope, sorry - you'll have to do that yourself, or ask someone else. I'm not messing about with this any more - it's working well, and I intend for it to stay that way. I spend 80% of my time USING the phone, and I am using it for writing apps, so it's a fiddle to keep backing up... flashing ROMs... testing... calibrating etc.

I hope I don't appear unhelpful, I just don't want to waste lots of time faffing with ROMs - I only need ONE ROM, it's great on batt life, and I'm leaving it alone.

Sorry!
