well, the short story is that it works so now I have a rooted phone and am busy downloading all manner of interesting apps :D

From chaos comes order, although I think I prefer chaos....

root is fine but unlocking the bootloder is the problem

Indeed, unlocking the bootloader will pave the way for much development work but it seems LG don't want us to....
