We previously saw the Nexus 10 manual leak... and now we have a lot more details courtesy of BriefMobile. The post gives us a look at all aspects of the device, as well as the first glimpses of it's Android 4.2 operating system. The tablet seems to be constructed primarily of metal, with the various port locations matching the leaked manual. It is apparently 'very thin and light'. Specs are said to include a Samsung Exynos 5250 Dual Core Cortex-A15 CPU (as seen in the new Series 3 Chromebook), a Mali-T604 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage (other options possible) and 10.1 inch Super AMOLED display (!) at an amazing 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. One thing that is very strange about the tablet is that it doesn't seem to be using the conventional 'tablet UI', instead a featuring Nexus 7 like UI. Strange... it is clearly running a debug build of the software though, so that could change. I also spotted a refreshed Camera icon, so perhaps the Camera app is getting an overhaul for 4.2. The fact google can't keep a lid on anything is embarrassing to start with, but whats even more embarrassing.... 1st things first, crippling the storage on both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 is a frankly a bad bad joke. Your no.1 competitor is pumping out 64gb editions of its whole tablet and phone line and Google pop up with a paltry 16gb maximum on their flagship phone and tablet. Maybe they release 32gb later, who knows but what they appared to have initially learned from the N7 (phasing out the 8GB verison) has clearly not hit home enough. PEOPLE WANT A DECENT AMOUNT OF LOCAL STORAGE ON THEIR DEVICES. And who in their right mind wants to constantly be forced to stream their music or video collection over 3G and constantly hammer their data connection? There is no explanation apart form the fact google is delusional and out of touch. Some android games are 2gb, so they are basically saying 'screw you' if you want to play these games and store HD video and your music collection on your device without hammering your 3g. No LTE at launch on the n4? Again...fail. Then you have this across the board industrial design disaster on both the 4 and the 10. Again your main competitor is pushing the envelope with ultra light ultra precision engineered anodized full aluminium chassis' and google rock up with some run of the mill ugly plastic crap. I wouldn't be surprised if the N10 is made form the same faux metal junk as the appalling Galaxy note 10.1. And did they even give any consideration about how someone might hold a tablet when they positioned those speakers? And that bezel...jesus Any way you slice it the designs are just average at best. Ok admittedly it is too early for me to be making these kind of assumptions but these leaks have been pretty thorough and there is pretty much nothing left for Google to announce in a couple of days. Why any non tech savvy iPhone user thinking about swapping to googles phones/ecosystem would ever think, 'I want less storage, worse apps & worse design' is just completely baffling to me. The only thing Google has on their side is pricing and 'openess' I suppose. The N7 is still the best thing google has even done device wise now we are finally going to see a 32gb version. But...the fact that google is doing nothing design wise to combat its 'cheap' image, especially on its hardware makes me think that apple really still have very little to worry about. And I havn't even started to talk about the the lack of tablet apps issue. A few pixels more on the N10 display and a cpu that will probably be on par with the A6X in real world performance again gives Apple users nothing to be jealous of. The ipad mini with its out of date hardware will again obliterate sales records as the iphone 5 has and the Nexus 4 and 10 will be lumped into the category of confusing cheaply made android phones/tablets buy the majority of the main stream non tech saavy public who will also believe apple is the only truly premium brand and every thing else will still be seen as inferior. Posted October 27, 2012 Report Share Posted October 27, 2012 Despite what Mr Ranty says - I'm not having a problem with the design, I'm liking what I'm seeing for one very specific reason. It looks like this was built and designed by the same people who created the chromebook. Same processor, same memory, same storage, and very similar design look. In particular that 16GB number is the same as the original chromebook, which now comes in 32GB flavour. If that holds through then the price might be that the Nexus 10 comes in at $299 or close to it. The Chromebook was $249 and although the Nexus 10 has a much better screen, it doesn't have a keyboard or trackpad. So where would $299 leave the $499 maxi ipad? Or the $329 mini ipad either, for that matter? Slotting in 3G, wouldn't be difficult, if they have just reused that chromebook design. 3G adds $70 to the chromebook cost. This is dual core with Cortex A15, the nexus 7 is quad core Cortex A9. These cortex a15 core are seriously fast, faster than all processors out there including apple's a6. This is the first device to ship with cortex a15, nothing else has them yet. These aren't rumours, there have been benchmarks and leaked manuals and many other things.
