patiently waiting for cm9/10

No false hopes, no requests for ETA. The best thing what everyone should do, is to wait patiently and do not ask for release. No matter what devs says because there are lot of things that might break during the development process.

The same as Valve did with Half life episodes - release when it's done.

Official ROM's are usable, except few issues everything is working.

Since that post daz made I think they have pinpointed the root of the wifi reboot issue. So it would make sense for that fix to be included before a release.

However there is a huge difference between knowing whats causing the hangs and fixing it.

The imminent release might not be so imminent... but when it does drop you will be even happier :)

Of course take what I say with a pinch of salt, as its just speculation:)

It's impossible to tell a release date, since nobody knows how long it will take to fix the remaining issues. Maybe 2 days, maybe 60. So keep waiting patiently, like we all are. Daz wants to fix all issues before release, and that will take as long as needed.

And look at how that turned out... I believe that Duke Nukem Forever's development was also littered with that mentality.". Let's face it, "it's done when it's done" is not a development strategy to be looked favourably upon, unfortunately it's a necessity when it's small individual projects like this, but in general failure or severe under-performance is usually the result of throwing the concept of roadmaps and ETA's out the window.

Malthus, how is your C, C++ and Java coding skills?. If any good, you could help development. Its a small team working on it, 2 or 3 people I think.

Code Aurora changes can also break the G300 build. In the meantime, use the Huawei ICS. That's 3 months overdue and still stinks. When you use that, you will truly appreciate CM9. We may even see a thank you Dazzozo and co when you use it.

If Huawei released a decent ICS, there would not be such pressure on Dazzozo to get a working rom out. Dazzozo is not to blame for the current fiasco.

I said it's a necessity with small projects, just not something that should be aspired to, which is how people are treating it. It's not Daz's attitude that bothers me, it's the fanboys that take it too far and trying to speak for him that need to reign in it a bit. Daz's efforts are already considerably better than what Huawei/Vodafone have put out, that's not in dispute.

In an ideal world, a page would not be posted until a rom is fully working. Given the nature of the beast and the constantly changing world of Android, that will rarely happen.

Dazzozo wants the rom out as much as anyone but some people don't seem to admire the fact that he wants to fix the majority of it before release. Quality control is a rare thing nowadays and its incredible that he has stuck to his guns and not given into community pressure.

I don't think it's admirable or non-admirable. It's just personal choice on how he handles his ROM, it's not inherently bad or good either way. Some people find it better to hold off releasing a piece of software until it's "done", others find it better to post regular pre-release alpha/beta versions in the run up. Neither approach is better or worse than the other. I haven't seen a huge about of pressure on Daz to release the ROM either, it mainly just seems to be people asking for an ETA which is understandable but obviously impractical to give an accurate answer to.

I think it would be more constructive to have someone involved or closely monitoring the development to give an explanation to these people of why there isn't an accurate ETA, or to just summarise the current state of development, etc. rather than just a bunch of people making fairly inane and repetitive comments like "IT'S DONE WHEN IT'S DONE" or "DON'T ASK FOR ETA'S LOL" and that sort of thing, when these people aren't even involved in developing CM9/10 anyway.

Score. But why go on about it? Sycophants will be sycophants.

Exactly. I didn't want to really go there, but the kind of behaviour I'm describing just reeks of sycophancy and brow-nosing, to be honest. I find it more de constructive than the people asking the same questions over and over - which is at least due to ignorance or carelessness rather than being deliberately unhelpful.

Guys, why do you want a timeplan, roadmap or ETA for a non-paid product? The differences between CM10 and Half life series are quite huge - Valve paid programmers to do their job, who pays Daz, if he does it in his free time? It's not our concern to know internal roadmaps and timelines - if he informs us about it, fine, if not, nothing bad happens.

How would you answer for repetitive questions if someone can't take a look on the first post in topic? "Hey, I am providing you a very unhelpful answer - just read the first post in this topic." That's why I said that CM9/CM10 topics should be closed until the first release is out - because there won't be any other post than Dazzozo's. Everyone will see - ah, not done yet, I will have a look at it later.

I finally got it. Opensource application development for free for community is very ungrateful. Everyone expects maximum and does not want to provide anything.

Not true i would love to help and really wish i knew how to do what dazzozo and others do. However i dont and am not in a situation to learn it to that level. I have picked up a lot of other bits of knowledge that i try to help out others with. Maybe in the future i will try to learn the ins and outs of it as its friggin cool!

As for etas. You cant expect a answer when they don't know it themselves.

How is it not admirable that he has held back on a release? Look at Huawei ICS and the furore that has created. That was 3 months overdue and still rubbish. Do you not think that if Dazzozo released a buggy release, that the page would explode with bug reports, requests to fix stuff and install help requests? If Dazzozo then has to sort out those user cries for help, he will have even less time to develop. If you want CM9, ask Dazzozo for the 18th Oct release. I have been using it for over a week but there are a few bugs.

The capacitive button lights, notification light is about all that's left to fix and Dazzozo has posted this here already. There may also be a 3g bug but it only occurs for some people.

If you read what I said you'd realise I more or less said this, my issue is with people who aren't even connected with development in any way taking it upon themselves to appoint themselves as Daz's spokesperson and answer questions directed at him with pointless replies.

Again, I'm not for/against holding back on release, I simply think it's personal choice rather than one way being better. And he doesn't have to do any of those things though, obviously. There's nothing to prevent Daz from devoting his efforts to developing and providing the ROM as is, with no support if he wanted to go down that route. Your arguments for holding back are based on a completely false premise.
