The XYZ Z1 has been announced to be priced at 1399 yuan which is almost twice the price of the X1, so count me out.

Seems like the Xioami Red rice might be the phone to get.

Yep, Xioami's FW support kills every manufacturer, even large well known ones, weekly updates are simply epic. My Mi One is even still being supported. Combined with the fact the red rice is cheap as chips, they are going to sell so many of them it's ridiculous. I think the issue is going to be getting our hands on one, at the moment the WCDMA version hasn't even been properly announced yet and i'm sure pre orders will go mental when it is.

It's no wonder Xiaomi are killing Apple in China, high spec hardware at really good price points and the strength of MIUI and speed of updates is an unbeatable combination

Hey people, what's up?

I've been following this topic since, I don't know, maybe it's begining. Incredible to see the evolution of the devices since then.

Anyway, I'm searching for some help from you guys, since you got more insight and knowledge about the devices then me.

I'm looking for a chinese quad, 2GB Ram, 5'' FHD phone... but looks like it's very tough to make a decision (like many of other useres here). One phone looks nice, but bends so easily that its scary, other don't have SD slot, others are incredibly expensive....

The phones I've considered so far are:

UMI X2

ZOPO ZP980 (the "bender" one lol)

ThL w11 Monkey King

and some other I can't recall right now...

In short I'm looking for a phone with:

Quad core chip

2Gb ram

FHD 1920x1080 5'' screen

SDcard slot

Adequate battery

If possible, some development rom community

If anyone can point me on the right direction, I would surely appreciate it!

from the link in my post http://dealsprime.com/xiaocai-x9-4-5-960-540-android-4-2-phone-mt6589-quad-core-1-2ghz-3g-gps-8-0mp.html

it has quite a few of the Chinese roms like lewaOS, MIUI etc. scores around 14000 to 15000 in antutu if that matters.

looks like copy of xiaomi red rice

pretty sure it was released before xiaomi red rice, but then again nearly all china phones are a copy of something even xiaomi's miui (IOS)

yeah, i have a nexus 4 as well that's my main phone,

i originally got a Huawei Y300 as a second phone to mess around with and didn't like it so i sold it for £100 on ebay and got

the xiaocai x9

Edit:

i also recommend anyone with an mtk6589 device to check out ceco's xposed module, it adds some great features including pie controls

It does look nice, battery seems small though, how long does it last you?

I want a phone without any issues, works out of the box without any issues, can be updated easily and reliable.

to be honest, every phone i have had has the same average battery life which lasts a day with normal usage, longer with data off and wifi only,

i was most surprised by this with the huawei Y300... that thing had a 4inch display with a 1950mAh battery but was still the same average battery life

Nice price :)

That score in antutu looks too high.

I never saw MTK6589 reaching 14000 under "normal" circumstances.

@Ricardo

Take a look at iOcean Elite and Dakele 2 (Big Cola), too.

ether have i on the 720p devices, but this has a lower res at Qhd, so might be why, but benchmark don't really mean much in real life usage anyway

look (skip to 1.45)

Yeah the higher bench marks are probably because of the QHD display, far less pixels to push. Looks like a nice phone, although I think my next purchase will be red rice, Mi3 or Nexus 5. Incidently the Battery on my V5 is amazing, never runs out, can hammer 3g and wifi all day.

same, my next main phone will be the next nexus, still got my nexus 4 for now though as my main phone,

the xiaocai x9 is just a second phone for me, something i'm not to bothered about losing when i'm out drinking or dropping when drunk lol

the nexus 4 is not the kind of device you want to drop with front and back glass, especially since i plan on selling it in a few month

Another similar options (smaller screen, higher ppi)

Huawei G525

Sorry, didn`t notice that your choice was mtk6589m soc

MTK6589M PowerVX SGX 544MP 156MHz

MTK6589 PowerVX SGX 544MP 286MHz

MTK6589T PowerVX SGX 544MP 357MHz

Couldn`t find adreno 203 vs PowerVX SGX 544MP 156MHz comparation

Most of our popular phones has single core mtk6589 soc

Found something:

From sources:

http://kyokojap.mywe...net/gpu_gflops/

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLOPS

MT6589M 156 MHz 4.9 GFLOPS

MT6589 286 MHz 9.2 GFLOPS

Adreno 203 245 MHz 7.84 GFLOPS

Tillaz, you probably know more?

Is Adreno 203 better graphics than PowerVX SGX 544MP 156MHz ?

Is graphics on Qualcomm MSM8225Q 1.2GHz really much worse than on MTK6589 ?

the adreno 203 is basically the same as the 200, which is ancient tech now, the SGX544MP is only two year old an much better,

but not sure about it still been better when its underclocked @ 156Mhz.

it might actually be possible to notch them back up to 357Mhz unless they removed the other values, and this in my opinion is why they never release any source,

because they sell multiple variants of the same Soc, for lower prices which are just restricted by software, and if we had the source people would be to change the

lower end variant into the highest end variant.

this is actually conmen with manufactures as its saves them money on producing multiple variants of hardware / chipsets,

i had an LG TV a while back that was quite low end and cheap but once i got into the engineering menu with a special button combo

i was able to enable the media centre, usb port, and bluetooth, which turned it into the model up from it that cost an extra £100 lol

I am looking for a cheap chineese phone for my brother-in-law. Price should be $125 max, 4,0 - 4,3 display, Gorilla glass pref., 1GB RAM, good GPS (GLONASS if available but not necessary - will be used as a car nav), no need for a quad core, dual core is good enough. Any recommendations?

Hi all,

Some months ago I asked for advice on buying a phone.Following advice from tillaz I had another look around and finally brought one with better specs from another different dealer on ebay.

After reading some horror stories about chinese dealers decided not to chance ordering from them.

Cost a bit more but well worth it.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/S4-STAR-N9500-5-Phone-Android-4-2-1-MTK6589-1-2GHz-Quad-Core-3G-SimFree-/261209514792?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item3cd14ce328

It was despatched on a monday and I received it on the tuesday.Cant complain about that.

It is an EX-NOTE IV.or so the instructions say.

http://www.exmobile.com.my/productDetail.htm?categoryid=1&productid=274

It turns out to be the same phone as these Alps N9500,Tengda, HDC, Galaxy, Star, S4 and most others based on MTK6589.

I am very pleased with the phone and would recommend it to anyone.

Everything works including the gps which I know some people are having trouble with.

There is a growing dev community and roms are available at needroms.com

There is even a 4.3 version promised.!

I can also endorse what tillaz said about the app/module from ceco.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070

Really improves any MTK6589 no end.

Regards,

drc1.

Interestingly, you named the worst china "brands" of MTK6589 phones,

Following advice from tillaz I had another look around and finally brought one with better specs

My dear boy/man. You could buy yourself a high class phone for that money.

With better specs, better name, better community support.

On the other side, you would be in trouble then because nobody would recognise your new

phone. Pardon - clone.

Tillaz surely wouldnt advice that transaction.

NHF

Peace

What I said was he gave me some advice not that he condoned what I had bought.

I just wanted to pass on my experience to other readers of this board not to get your opinion.

Seems that unless we have bought some never heard off obscure phone we are not wanted here.

So Bye.
