I was just looking at the official Huawei site and it seems that they have new firmware out today?

http://www.huaweidev...softid=NDcwMjk=

I'm a newby and despite spending a lot of time reading this forum, I still haven't really understood what rooting is and why I should or shouldn't need to do it. That's question number 1.

I currently have the latest update from vodafone ICS, which seems to work fine for me. I've not noticed any bugs, but not really been paying much attention. I've unlocked the phone and hardly ever use my vodafone sim.

However I hate all the vodafone bloat-ware. So this is question number 2. If I updated with this new firmware from huawei would I be rid of it all? Will I have to install all the apps and phone book again? Can I just follow the instructions here: http://www.modaco.co...ms-from-huawei/?

Thanks to you all. Love this very supportive forum.

Got it coming down now to take a look at. Looks like the version Vodafone released but before they got their grubby mits on it.

Edit: this update can be applied to the following.

U8815 V100R001C00B934
U8815 V100R001C00B937
U8815 V100R001C00B939
U8815 V100R001C00B944
U8815 V100R001C00B946
U8815 V100R001C00B948
U8815 V100R001C00B951
U8815 V100R001C00B952

To answer OP; yes, this looks to be a clean version of the B952 release, so it would give you the latest ICS without the vodafone extras. There is no vendor.app though, so possibly no toggles.

I've had a look at the files and it is typical Huawei; the build number is the same (b952) but I have md5 hash compared a few files (SystemUI.apk, build.prop, framework-res.apk, services.jar) and all of them have different hashes than their vodafone b952 counterpart. With this in mind I might do a repack of this (if anyone is interested) even though the vodafone one has the same build number.

Being different then it might well be better :)

Wouldn't we all. I suggest you try it and then report back here with your findings. We'll all await your review...

Yes, same for me.  In fact, there are no Huawei apps (AllBackup etc.) for me at all!

I installed this (via a "middle package") on a phone that was on B895, which is probably the reason.  Still I find it surprising....
