How do you mean "ES File Explorer doesn't detect root"?, I can access all of the system partition on mine.

Try rebooting your phone and/or updating ES File Explorer, I got the "doesn't detect root" message but don't now after updating and rebooting.

I was uninstalling some of the preinstalled game demos.

Thank you simple fix but then again hadn't tried it in a while

Edit: Nearly 800MB of logged files wonder where my space had gone.

Where are the logs located on the phone? Is it safe delete it?

It's data/logs/core and yes, it seems safe(so far ;)).

I was checking the space used on the 10.7GB partition, and the figures weren't adding up. I used the "SD Card Analyst" in ES File Explorer and found a couple of files in;

/sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails

Over 300MB each, managed to get rid of them by copying the names then replacing them with renamed folders (which apparently blocks them for returning).

Only difference I noticed is in Social Gallery & Gallery ICS apps the thumbnails load a little slower.

I also deleted the Gameloft directory, apparently uninstalling the duff demos wasn't enough. That freed up another 1GB or so.
