Guest PaulOBrien
Samsung has official announced the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and 10.1 (inch) models which join their 7 inch sibling... but interestingly the 10.1 model uses an Intel Atom processor. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, which will be available in WiFi and 3G / LTE models, packs a 1.5GHZ processor (details TBC!), 1.5GB RAM (yes, that's not a typo!), a 8" 1280x800 display (up from the disappointing 1024x600 on the 7), Android 4.2, a 5 megapixel rear camera, a 1.3 megapixel front camera, WiFi a/b/g/n (2.4GHz / 5GHz), all the usual array of sensors and 16GB / 32GB onboard storage backed, of course, by microSD expansion. The device is 209.8 x 123.8 x 7.4mm, weighs 314g (Wi-Fi version) and is powered by a 4,450 mAh battery. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, also available in WiFi and 3G / LTE models, has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1GB RAM, a 10.1" 1280x800 display, Android 4.2, a 3 megapixel rear camera, a 1.3 megapixel front camera, WiFi a/b/g/n (2.4GHz / 5GHz), again the usual array of sensors including GPS and 16 / 32GB storage + microSD. The device is 243.1 x 176.1 x 7.95mm, weighs 510g (Wi-Fi version) and is powered by a 6,800 mAh battery. Exact details on the CPUs in either device are rather conspicuous by their absence in the press release, but it is very interesting to see Samsung going to Intel when they have both their own Exynos CPUs and a wide variety of other partners at their disposal. The devices looks nice enough without being overly exciting - the extra inch on the 8.0 will make for a nice experience. I'm not sure about the phone-style back / home / menu keys though. What do you think? Looking at the specs it seems to me like the Tab 3 range is a low-cost play so it'll be interesting to see pricing when it's announced. We'll keep you posted with any further developments! Click here to view the item
