Do I need to unlock the bootloader to root P1?

Hi

I've just contacted Huawei to get the bootloader unlock code for my P1. I got a reply saying that there wasn't a code for the P1.

I thought the bootloader had to be unlocked before you could starting the rooting process? Does this mean that the bootloader is already unlocked?

Bootloader is unlocked. You can go to root the system or change the Recovery directly.

Doh didn't think that would be the case or else I would have got straight on with rooting. My excuse is that I have been following the Ascend G510 and thought the P1 would be the same.

In my opinion is easier to change the recovery for CWM or TWRP, so you can make a "clean" backup of the phone's system (just in case you need to go back to factory state). Then you can root the phone just flashing a zip file using CWM or TWRP, or just flash another ROM already rooted.
