Problems after installing ROM

Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone here can help me or at least point me in the right direction, I've searched but to no avail

After months of problems with the ICS update from Huawei I bucked up the courage to install Jelly Bean. Everything went well until the very last minute and then I got the message com.google.process.gapps has stopped working. The installation finished but now I can't access Play Store nor can I access the apps on my SD card. I can see the apps in File Manager and the storage on my SD card shows the space used. When I go into file manager the SD card has the title SD1, as if it is partitioned. I have searched and tried all the solutions given on the web, such as disabling and reenabling Download Manager and clearing app cache but while these appear to have worked for some, they don't appear to work for the G300. Can anybody solve this for me or at least get me back to ICS or Gb and recover my SD card? Thanks.

What JB ROM did you install?

Did you do full wipes and formats and follow any specific installation instructions for that ROM?

Did you install the correct Google apps (gapps) package?

Some people reported problems if they flashed the JB ROM and then gapps without rebooting and maybe factory resetting between them but then others said that this should not be necessary...

JB 10.2 manages internal/external storage different to other ROMs in case that's an issue here?

The CM 10.2 thread has info about this.

Try again maybe?

And don't use that tutorial for unlocking the bootloader - use this one:

http://www.modaco.com/topic/362821-tutorial-how-to-officially-unlock-the-bootloader-with-definitions-relock-guide-included/

Note that you can unlock for free without the Huawei code using DC Unlocker:

Hope this helps.

Wow, that looks complicated. The part about the flash memory, does that apply to me? I can't access Play Store, that's one of my problems. Do I have to start from scratch again i.e.Root and install CW Mod?

The DC Unlocker method for unlocking the bootloader is not complicated.

But you do have to be on the original ICS bootloader to do it which may mean reverting to stock ICS (e.g. B952 as mentioned here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/362821-tutorial-how-to-officially-unlock-the-bootloader-with-definitions-relock-guide-included/#entry2128104)

I don't know what's wrong with your ROM setup but if I was you I would start again.

Believe me, when you look at it from an idiot's point of view,as I am, it's complicated. I will try anyway. I'm wondering if a factory reset is an option or is it the case there is nothing there now to reset? Thanks

If you are still rooted and have CWM , just try one of theese roms ( i suggest for gingerbread atomic mod , or slim gb; and for ics tesla,stock+,cm9 , miu v4 they are all good ) and they dont need gapps except cm and should work for you, but for jelly bean cant suggest im hinyx and havent tried them yet except AOKP which worked but i switched back to ics when i saw HINYX problem .

Hope That helped you !!!

Thanks, I'm not pushed about which ROM I have as long as it's not the Huawei ICS. What I really need is somebody to explain the mechanics of getting from where I am to another ROM. I am lost in the terminology used on this forum

Here's what you have to do - you may have done some of this already:

Root.

Unlock bootloader if necessary.

Install CWM.

Then follow these instructions which will work for any of the GB ROMs (e.g. superslim, slim, atomicmod or CM7 (which will also require Google apps installed separately)) - and probably any ROM at all:

http://www.modaco.com/topic/364973-gb-b895-slim-v7-multibaseband/page-5#entry2157394

Also refer to the individual ROM threads for any additional installation specifics.

I'm still running superslim and find it great. I also used the "downgrade" zip to downgrade to the old baseband and GB bootloader to avoid the hassle of unlocking the ICS bootloader when it was more hassle than it is now with the DC Unlocker option.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have done the top three items while installing JB but do I have to wipe or reset the phone first or is that part of the process as it was with ICS? The problem seems to be with the gapps.zip,, this is the error that keeps popping up, what can I install that doesn't require that and where will I find it?

In my experience always do all wipes/formats/reset in CWM when installing a ROM.

And follow any ROM specific installation instructions in the ROM thread.

If you are having problems with CM then read the relevant CM thread and ask questions there if necessary.

By the way - you keep using the quote facility incorrectly which makes posts difficult to follow...

Didn't realise that, I've probably done it again now. I just hit the quote button and type where the cursor blinks  :)  Anyway I'll have a go. What's the difference between CM and CWM, is it Cyanogen Mod and Clockwork Mod?

Just to update. Bit the bullet and managed to get back to a custom ICS ROM.  Phone is fairly zipping now although I have lost all the apps stored on my SD card but never mind, have my access to Play Store restored. Thanks to all for your help.
