According to Motorola Mobility, the solution to a fully discharged battery not restarting is to plug it in to charger and press & hold the power button for 18+ seconds, when the battery should resume charging.

Hi there!

Just to let you know that this didn't work for me. The only thing that worked was leaving the phone off and in a cool place for a day. Once I attempted to charge afterwards, the phone came back to life. This has also been done by several people on XDA.

It was too late to work for me - we had two phones in the house & I ended up taking out my mini torx screwdriver set and doing a two-phone-teardown! I swapped the batteries and they both charged & booted up as per normal.

It must be some over cautious safety toggle in the charging logic that puts the phone into a coma for a period of hours when it thinks it's in trouble with a dodgy battery etc. I was initially too eager pressing the power button when the battery charge said 0%. This could be an issue for Motorola, but I'm sure an update will fix it.

I too had this problem.  When I first tried to charge all I saw was a brief white light.  Left charging overnight and not a thing happening.  I had read somewhere that someone said they put it in a freezer and it then charged.  This seemed a ridiculous and stupid thing to do so I tried it.  After 3 minutes in the freezer I took it out and it started charging immediately.  I'm not joking!
