Notice the repeated packets of 2.84, 2.85, 2.86 Mb. These packets occur a total of 134 times on my current itemised usage, totalling approximately 382 Mb, over half of my 600 Mb allowance! PLEASE NOTE: THIS DOES NOT SHOW ON YOUR NORMAL BILL! Only if you log into your Talktalk account and check your current usage will it become apparent. Talktalk are insistent that this is due to background data, and to turn data off when in the house on wifi. They say that this only affects a small number of their customers. I maintain that most people would not notice the problem if they rely on their monthly bill for information. Most would not investigate furthur. Please CHECK YOUR CURRENT DATA USAGE and report back here your findings, either positive or negative. If anyone on here can shed any light on the possible mechanism for this, please tell me! There is another customer on the Talktalk community thread I created, he has 5 sims in his home, 3 in Android phones and 2 in iPhones. I believe this rules out a device specific background data issue. Here is the link to that thread: https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Mobile/Mobile-internet-2-8x-Mb-chunks/m-p/1569223#U1569223 Many thanks for your help. Guest hecatae
Hi pinky0978, this looks like incremental background data carried out by your device.
Guest pinky0978
Hi Hecatae, I know that's possible, but I don't use Facebook, I use Friendcaster and only log in very rarely, and always log out again. Play store is set to never update apps and never notify me, and I'm currenly running Carbonrom 4.2.2 on my Y300, which doesn't support ota updates. I'm struggling to see what else could require that volume of background data. I also find it a bit of a coincidence that it's happening on iOS with exactly the same packet size. The only app that should poll data is Gmail, and never to the amounts involved here. Is there an app that will detail exactly what is running and downloading the data? Thanks Edit: Downloaded My Data Manager app and I'm going to leave my wifi off for a couple of days and see which apps are using the data.
