SD Card Removed Unexpectedly (Hudl2)

Hi,  I bought a Hudl2 for my wife at Christmas.  Excellent device but one problem.  With a 32GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSDHC SD card, when I put the card in (with Videos, say, loaded from the desktop) the Hudl2 'sees' the card and plays the videos fine.  However, after about 3 hrs (i.e. the Hudl2 is not powered off but in 'sleep' mode) it loses the SD card and the above error message is notified via the Question-mark-in-triange at top left of screen.  Needless yto say the SD card is still in-situe. I have changed the SD card for a new one (the first one was also new from Tesco) and it is the same problem.  If you remove and re-insert the card it is fine (until the Hudl2 sleeps for a few hours that is).  If you power down completely and power up (effectively doing a power init cycle) it sees the SD card but loses it after a few hours in sleep mode as before.  The rub:  A Moto 8GB HC card works fine.

- Is this the card (inherently a SanDisk card issue)?

- is this the Hudl2 fault (generic or mine)?

- Has anyone else seen thsi problem?

Thanks, David.

It is possible it just doesn't like the sandisk card for some reason. I am successfully using a Samsung 64gb card with no issues in mine, my suggestion would be to purchase a card from a different manufacturer and see if the issue persists. You should be able to get a refund on the sandisk card on the grounds that it is faulty.

Thanks for suggestions so far.  Try different manufacturer - have ordered a samsung 32G card and will let you know.  Format card in Hudl2 - will try that also but to date I have not had to format a card on a PC/Laptop at all.  Just plug them in and they work.  Thanks again so far.  DavidB

Thanks to everyone who replied.  Bought a Samsung 32G card and this seems to work fine.

I guess I was wrong then. Mine is also a Samsung card and works fine. Thanks for letting everyone on the forum know how it worked out.

Hi all.

I'm having this problem too. I've formatted the card on my PC and it made no difference, after formatting on the Hudl it seemed ok for a day or so but is now doing it again. I have the same card as David, so after reading this thread I thought it was a compatibility issue and was going to try another card. David, is yours still ok with the Samsung card?

As I got the card from Tesco too, I rang the Hudl help desk. At first the guy said he didn't know of any issue and just suggested I do a hard reset! After a brief discussion, he said he would talk to technical and put me on hold. When he came back he said that it was a known issue and that the tech guys had replicated the problem with 3 different devices and several different cards so changing the card wouldn't help. Apparently this was an issue that the recent update was supposed to fix as well as the power problem, but it hasn't cured it. He said a fix was in the pipeline and just to keep checking for updates, but in the meantime simply take the card out and put it back in.

Has no one else had this happen to them?

Cheers

I have exactly the same card as the opening post, currently have about 6.5gb data on it, got mine from Amazon, unrooted device, card working fine

Actually there are many different cards by each manufacturer for all their capacities, even for cards of the same class/speed so you don't know whether you have the same card unless you give the part/model number.

I am using a SanDisk Ultra SDHC 32gb card. So it is a similar card, if not the same, as the topic starter. This is why I thought it might be a card or compatibility issue, but the Hudl helpline says not. My Hudl is un-rooted and otherwise working fine.

As far as I can tell, this is only an issue if you use sleep mode and the Hudl has been like that for a few hours (this is the only time mine does it). Anyone who never uses sleep mode would not notice any problem.

My kids each have a tablet ; and on one of them it very often dismounts the SD card. The other has dismounted occasionally. They are both identical SanDisk Extreme UHS-1 Micro SD from MyMemory. Its only during sleep as well.

Very frustrating
