Micro-stutter on video playback.

Alright, so I've just got my Hudl yesterday. My main purpose was to watch movies on this. But I'm getting a small micro-stutter as I'm watching. My little brother's also. Compared it to the Nexus 7 and it just wasn't as 'smooth' it feels jittery all the way through any video, YouTube, Netflix. Anyone shed some light on whether this is software based or hardware based and if there's a fix, how?

I haven't noticed this watching videos on the device itself but have when connected via HDMI to a TV. I believe it has something to do with the refresh rate of the screen not matching the video source. If you are connecting it via HDMI you can adjust it in the display settings but I'm not aware you can do it for its own display.

Hmm. It does seem as if it has something to do with the refresh rate. But could that be due to the laggy Tesco launcher? Or the screen in general?

Or even maybe a codec? I cant put my finger on it. But if there's no fix, I'll be returning it. Such a shame cause

Its a fantastic tablet.

Don't think its a codec issue or has anything to do with the Tesco Home Launcher, the launcher is just used to run your programs. Pretty sure it has something to do with the refresh rate not matching the videos frame rate so it makes some videos look jittery.

So is it simply the screen they've fitted or some sort of coding in which makes this sync issue?

When watching things on my device with its internal screen the playback on mine is perfectly smooth, this is with Blinkbox, Google Movies & TV & YouTube. I have noticed it watching things via HDMI & found it can be improved by changing the refresh rate in the HDMI settings to match the video. Have you tried downloading a video to your device and then watching it as it could be something else affecting it like your internet connection or interference on the WiFi channel you are using.

Okay. So, I've downloaded a film via Torrent which works pretty well, there's no micro stutter but movement still doesn't feel 'smooth'. This may be down to the refresh rate in which still bugs me slightly coming from a Nexus 7 which didn't have the issue. Also downloaded from Google Movies the stutter isn't there. But the 'smoothness' isn't there.

I'm not really sure what to suggest to you, as you can't really do anything with the internal screen on the device. I've always felt the screen on it was pretty damned good. If you have some video footage on a micro SD card you may be able to test on one of the demo units in store just to rule out a faulty screen. If you are still not satisfied perhaps return it to the store and exchange for a different device.

Well. I've tested on my little brothers and its the same. I'll keep this open just incase there is some sort of fix (If its not the actual screen) and I'll try and get used to it cause the tablet is amazing itself.

are you sure it's not the video that you're watching?, sometimes the frame rates are reduced to reduce file size..have you tried other videos?

I stream a lot of movies on my hudl2 and the playback has always been good, but I've noticed that many YouTube videos are of lower frame rate and therefore reduced playback quality.
