Thought some of you guys might be interested in what I'm doing, I've added it to my site. It's like a zelda/diablo rpg engine (or will be)

The map looks really dumb, but that's cos it's totally random at the moment.

[edit]Another important disclaimer ;) The sprites are all pretty rubbish at the moment cos (A) I'm no artist and (:) I just found them on the web to get something on screen [/edit]

Go to

and check it out.

Deemon ->  What's the GBA SP like compared to the normal GBA??

Well in one sentence: Worth ALL the money! *pats her black SP*

The light is awesome, the battery seems to last forever, and if you got a cramp from the old GBA, you will love this thing!! I can play for hours str8 without getting cramps (not that I have time with my new SPV toy *inno*).

Get it mate, it's awesome...

As to graphics etc, at the moment I'm more focused on getting the engine running. Hopefully I'll have some sort of melee combat only thing for a taster next weekend. Once it's all done, then it's tidying up graphics/storyline for the free adventure and then deciding how I want to license it to make a bit of cash (to keep me in phones). My hope is that I can sell the engine (at low low prices) to allow you all to build your own rpg's in my engine, kinda like the model that Kyle's quest (for palm and pocket pc) uses, except mines gonna be loads better than Kyle's quest.

The pricing model would be that players would buy a registered version to allow them to play other peoples adventures, rather than the adventure writer needing to buy some special expensive version and I'm thinking a pricing of probably £5-10 (all my initial sales would go to cover certification costs).

PS. sorry mods, I bumped that nasty little report this post to moderators button ;)

Got this moved on a little further (for those interested)...

I've put up another couple of screen shots... backgrounds loaded so they look sensible and a shot of my cheesy visual basic map editer.

http://www.surrealservices.co.uk/rpg.html

My next step is sorting out a generic skinnable mechanism for a status overlay (current target, hitpoints, mana etc)

Then it's the hardyards of sorting out the monster data structures and getting some game type rules in it.

Looks amazing so far mate ;)

Do you have any kind of story line planned out yet, or are you just trying to get the engine up and running first?

Engine first... I've got a few story ideas floating around in my head, but once the engines done there's still quite a bit to sort out like actual nice graphics sets etc...
