Accessories for the Tanager!

The Smart Wireless Center here in our place did mention the availability of Tanager accessories like battery pack, usb cradle (which is not included in the package), the usb cable, and I think they did mention about that DC connector for charging purposes. :? I ordered from them a battery pack but until now, no battery pack yet. How true is this pronouncement? Is there anyone who have already acquired an accessory(ies) from Smart Center?

Believe me. They're working on it. I was just at SMART Communications this week and that's what we were talking about.

Battery? Soon hopefully. Another thing they are working out is te Car Charger for the Tanager.

Games & Gadgets might have the USB Synch/Charge cable for it though.

Thanks m8! :)

One thing, I'm really excited about that keyboard stuff they are talking about on www.coolsmartphone.com site.

Question: Can we safely use any available headset that fits the socket of the Tanager or there's really a "special" headset for it?

I bought a SAP headset from the Smart Wireless Center in Megamall for P450. The combination sync/charger for the O2 xda works with the Tanager and can be bought from Games & Gadgets. So it's reasonable that the auto charger for the O2 will work with it too though I haven't tried it yet.

I heard that HTC is actually the OEM for both HP and O2..

I hope this helps.

Is the headset a proprietary thing or you could use other headsets so long as it would fit the socket on the phone?

Another is it is just a headphone, right? Not the combination headphone and mic, or is it?

the headset from wireless center is an earphones/handsfree combo.

the only problem is that unlike nokia and se, you can't end a call by pressing the button. you can just use the button to answer a call. sheesh.

For those of you brave enough to unlock you SAV's then you might want to do this minor Mod on you data cable so you wouldnt have to use the charger and charge directly from your PC.

Remove the 2 screws on the connector that connects to the phone. Inside you will see 3 red wires. you need to short or solder a jumper between the the 2 red wires that are on the same side. The other red wire is already shorted internally ( the 2 that are facing each other on the very edges ). You only need to short the red wire in the middle to any of the 2 red wires that or on the edges.

NOTE: Makes sure you cover any exposed wires from these red wires or jumpers as the metal protectors are grounded for shielding.

Also try to find a rubber cover to cover up the socket where the charger used to plug in... this is now a live +5v inside and if something mettalic shorts the ring to the nipple inside, it might blow a very small fuse protecting your USB ports . Though Ive tried it wla naman nangyari, but I wouldn't risk a second time...

Also since I had my SAV my battery state only goes up to 99% displayed by SP Task Manager. After this Mod it goes all the way to 100%

Try it out and enjoy one less cable to attach and save P450

Sorry for the delayed post. I guess the headset's been covered.

I bought the O2 sync cable for about P500. It looks like a pulley whereby you pull along the opposite ends of the thing to increase the cable length. The wire is soo thin that it looks like a ribbon. Hey -- it works and it's being advertised on some PPC sites too..

It's called the "Travel Computer Cable: Portable bi-directional flexible signal cable." Try it.

Pwede pala Nokia headset??? How much is that thing? Is it one of those headsets you can buy at the stalls or is it the original Nokia headset? Have you compared the sound quality with the Tanager's own headset that can be bought at Smart for P450?

Btw, re the retractable synch cable of O2 xda, you can also buy the Plug where you can connect to it the usb end of the cable so you can also use it as charger, and not just a synch cable....but you cant use it as a synch cable and charger at the same time. I just forgot how much is that plug...

Oh I guess the plug is useful only when you are travelling and you dont have a laptop with you to charge your Tanager with the synch/usb cable alone.

jbyte,

i saw batteries and a headset at the Smart business center in SM Cebu. So on your next visit to cebu you can go there (i think i see you in cebu everytime there's a level 3 shooting comp? :) ). The battery's is selling for P1,200.00.

I have been wating for the dc converter. asked for an extended battery but they're not sure there's any.

jelicano,

if i do this, will i still be able to use the DC charger with the modified usb cable? it might be a problem when we're travelling without a notebook - we might not be able to charge if there's no computer (with a usb slot) around.

is there anybody else aside from jelicano who tried this modification?

thanks

if you do the mod, you won't be able to use the charger anymore since there is now a live 5-volt supply going to the dc adapter socket in the USB cable. if you plug the charger in, you'll short either the charger or the USB port of your pc.... OR BOTH!

i suggest you just buy an O2 XDA USB sync cable/charger combo frm games and gadgets in greenhills theater mall. i think it's less than 500 pesos.

Does anyone know if there holsters being sold for the Amazing Phone? I figured that with the size, one would want to have a holder with belt clip.

Here are some accessories I found sold in Festival Mall, Alabang:

Earphones

Battery

Car charger

They told me that they already have the cradle, but its still in their warehouse.

For a case, I'm using an inexpensive (Php200) body glove that has both a belt clip & neck strap - fits perfectly! :)

(i think i see you in cebu everytime there's a level 3 shooting comp? :)  ).

How I wish I could visit Cebu again. Since I left my alma matter in 1991, I have not visited Cebu again. So, definitely, I'm not the guy you saw at SM. (Ka itsura lang siguro nako to bay. :( )

One of these days, I'm going to enjoy the Sinulog Festival again. :D

Anyway, thanks for the info, ist.

How about casing for the Tanager. Is there any available casing as of this time? Also, keypads. I'm planning to replace my left soft key. It's already a little bit stuck! :x

Btw, I managed to open the entire Tanager without much of a scratch (there's at least one or two but almost unnoticesable). Wow Man  the tanager is really beautiful from the inside. I actually did the opening last month and I found out that the left soft key was broken. So, I fixed it with the help of a superglue. Thank God, I did stick the two properly. I'm planning to customize my phone and spray it with metallic gray color. Maybe next time.

For those serious tanager users who are curious enough to alter the entire phone and see what's inside, follow the instructions on the link below:

http://www.coolsmartphone.com/custom.htm

But, based on my experience, It's very easy for my to open the casing from the bottom (near the usb terminal).

Cheers to those who wants to dismember their phones! :)
