An e100 for a fiver and a typical Orange "trainer"

I awoke this morning to discover that the latest Orange magazine had dropped through my letter box. After skimming it i noticed that a leaflet or two fell out, one of which was a voucher offering me £25 credit if i signed up a friend on to Orange! Having convinced a few of my friends that the SPV was the way to go i headed down to my mate Andy's work and talked him into heading down to the nearest Orange retail shop on his lunch break. The Voucher also entitled the new customer to £50 off of a handset. This got me thinking! If Andy bought my SPV from me for £20 and signed up to Talk 400 he could get the E100 for £80, then save £50 thus bringing the price of the handset down to £30! So he now has my old SPV, i have a lovely new e100 and he is going to downgrade his contract asap! We got the Timeout guide free along with a dodgy travel bag and a plug convertor (Uk to US!) and Andy got 1000 free texts thrown in as well!

As for the so called "trainer", he responded to my comment of "he doesn't want to sign up for GPRS" with, "the phone wont work without it"! I said "YES IT WILL!" and he said that they have to include GPRS. To save any shouting etc i agreed and my mate is gonna cancel it asap! Whilst on the phone to Orange registering Andy's phone and checking his credit etc he spoke about the e100 to the person at Orange. Apparently it is "much easier to use than the original SPV" and "starts up much faster". From what I could make out the Orange staff also thought about putting him upon the GPRS promotional pack until they realised it had expired :) After the "trainer" had finished on the phone i couldn't help but inform him that the e100 was in fact exactly the same phone as the SPV in terms of performance bar an update in the software which is coming soon to the SPV! He seemed a little timid by this point and i decided to leave it there as he got a bit embarresed! (I resisted the urge to throw the travel adaptor back in his face as the SPV and e100 come with US adapters in the box!;)) EDIT:I STAND CORRECTED, THE SUPPLIED ADAPTER IS FOR EUROPE SO U.S. ADAPTER IS OF USE!

So the moral of the story is that with a voucher and a willing mate you can get an e100 for around £30 (£5 if you include the £25 being credited to my account!!) and teach the Orange "trainers" a few things as well :D

Watch out for a new user named something like "andyjonesGTE" at some point in the not too distant future and go easy on him, he's new to all this :D

"MoDaCo users train Orange trainers to train Orange customers to train their phones" B)

And your post was going so well ;) Apparently the adaptor (European)

will not fit US sockets (from what I've been told)

No, they won't, the US use plugs similar to Europe, but,

instead of two round connecters, they use two blade-like ones ;)

(I THINK !) :)

I still don't think that E-100s are widely available - went into the Orange shop in Milton Keynes and they didn't even have one on display, just a nice cut-out picture of one that frankly looked as if there should be crayon round it. :)

All over london now. getting mine from orange.co.uk on monday - bliss.

But you can get the spv on talk 400/600 online for £49 anyway... and your mate could have got a £50 trade in as well from orange (for new "converts")... they'll be paying us to take them away soon..

I walked into the Preston Orange store a few days ago whilst looking for the soft keyboard (decided not to buy one) and saw one of the e100's on display - i have to say i dont find it any more attractive than the original spv...

Brody, as a "Phone Trainer" i'm hurt and extremely upset by your comments ;)

We're not all that bad you know - a lot of phone trainers haven't been trained on what the e100 actually is. In fact our store never actually received any literature to train us up. Although I know a fair bit about the spv, e100 and about the smartphone platform as a whole not every other orange employee shares this passion.

If you were to go into phones for you or the link, you probably would find that they don't even want to know what the phone is unless it earns them their cabs or whatever theyre calling their commision nowadays.

It's not always the fault of the phone trainer - maybe they shouldn't have told you the rubish about it not working without gprs if they don't know the facts but just remember, there are a few of us out there that know what we are talking about.

So if anyone wants any help from a phone trainer who knows where the "on" button is - pop into my store :)

I agree - I am sure that Orange would much rather you show how to change covers on a 7210 and sell some ringtones than know all about their OWN BRAND phone!

hehe - that kind of makes the whole concept of 'trainers' a joke...

..If the majority of 'trainers' know less about their phones than their customers do, how will they train people in need of help?

Don't Orange train employees on the use and operation of all the phones they will be selling, like they suggest in their ads?

And im sure as a "marketing director" your training involves how to put up posters at perfect angles.

Heheheh if only. Nope I make sure that I learn MYSELF what I need to know, and that I teach my people what they need to know.

Maybe you would benefit if you/your superiors had the same idea! :)

Don't

You

Learn

Anything

New?

It's funny, i can remember having a discussion with somone earlier this year (i can't remember if it was on here, PM or IRC) about OCS knowing very little about the SPV.

It was decided that to train every OCSR how to use every phone Orange supply would be expensive and difficult to pull off, but to take out small teams of people and train each on the in and outs of a small number of phones would be a lot more plausible. It would then allow you to be passed on to the revelent team when you called with a query over your phone.

And now Orange have implemented such a system...funny :)

I meant no offence to people who do know about the phone but it seems very weird that he was trying to tell me facts about the phone that were clearly fiction (as you highlited). I'm being broad i know, i just get the feeling that its not an isolated case! However if all of the trainers (or even on or two per store to tie in with Mono's post) were trained then they would get far more sales of the SPV range as it has some very smart features. I just find it a shame thats all, it is their phone after all, at least in terms of branding anyway!

i do hate it when people in shops tell you anything to try and get more money out of you or get you off there backs. (apprantly an ATI radeon 9000 is 'state of the art and normally retails at £200'(stupid bastard))

Then again if the Phone trainers dont actually own the phone i can understand why they dont have a clue (as i didnt when i first got it) and the majority of customers wont either---better to keep it very simple as to not make the phone sound over there heads.

anyway my 2p

/rant on

That would be the MUPPETS in the Reading highstreet store..who :

1) Need to understand that they are there to work...NOT completely ignore customers who are standing right in front of them actually asking them a question when they see their girlfriends walk into the shop. I thought I had actually turned invisible at this point as the conversation went on for several minutes...and then he looked at me as if I had interrupted him!!!

&

2)Looked at me incredulously when I asked if they sold spares for the SPV (charger and docking station) and then tell me that I couldnt actually get spares for them (I did get them from the Orange shop online in the end)

They need to learn manners as well as info on the phones that they sell !!!!!

It's not just the Reading store other stores seem to be the same :)

paid to help people not to chat to friendsco-workers firsts customers second.

You should all stop being a bunch of nerds and give us a break. I mean seriously - get a life. Is there nothing to do other than bitch about us orange staff!? [Didn't know if that needed moderating Will]

Its because of people like you that good members of staff like us leave to go onto bigger and better things.

If you all think you could take the time, money and effort to train the thousands of retail staff (or even OCS) accross the country please do so - the man you need to speak to is Nick Moore who is the head of Orange retail and I'm sure if you hunt hard enough you can find his direct number. I am not willing to post it.

End rant. Period.

amo: the point is that they advertise themselves as trainers but "most" know very little about a phone that is branded Orange! It is not a personal thing as I think you are taking it! Be proud that you're one of the few Orange trainers who does know the phone :)
