(make sure that phone is pointing at the laptops IRDA, DO NOT press Done!)

4. Windows XP will automaticall install (NO DRIVERS REQUIRED!) a Modem called

Standard Modem over IRLINK will be added (A sound will eventually indicate this!)

5. Select: START MENU / CONTROL PANEL / PHONE AND MODEM OPTIONS

6. Select: Standard modem over IRLINK / Select PROPERTIES

7. Select: ADVANCED MENU and enter the initialisation string:

+cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0

8. Goto Windows XP Network Connections and create a new network connection

9. Select: CONNECT TO THE INTERNET / SETUP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY /

CONNECT USING DIAL UP MODEM / TICK: Standard Modem over IRLINK

10. For the Connection name enter: GPRS

11. For the Phone number enter: *99#

12. Leave all three entires blank for user/pass/domain and Untick all three boxes

13. Select: Finish

14. The Connection Window should now pop up, click DIAL

15. You will then be registered to the connection and then you can start using

your SPV Phone as a GPRS Modem.

NOTE:

It can take a while for it to initialise/open the port.

Also make sure that Network DialUp connection is using the new IRDA Modem!!

You can increase the properties for the connection above 115200 in the Dial Up.

It seems to reset when re-activated. IRDA Device only goes upto 152000!!

It may be possible to run the firewall on the connection, not tested.

How do i use the phone as an USB Modem?

1. Open Active Sync, choose File -> Connection Properties and uncheck the USB box, this stops Active Sync trying to sync the phone with Outlook.

2. Now take your phone off its cradle, go to Programs -> Accessories and Model Link.

3. Change the Connection to USB and then choose Menu (soft key) and activate. Now place the phone in the cradle.

Windows will display that it has found new hardware. Allow it to produce the Wizard Menu, choose next and the choose specify location. Insert the CD that came with the phone and choose next. It will then ask you whether you want to continue etc. Keep going until you reach the end of the wizard.

3. Now you have the modem installed and can configure it.

4. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and Choose Phone and Modem options, choose the HTC USB Modem and choose Properties and Advanced. In the initialisation String box use the following:

+cgdcont=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0

4. Now create a new dial up connection, the phone number is *99# and ensure that the only modem that is selected is the HTC USB Modem (Note: no username and password is required).

5. Now dial up.

6. You can re-enable Active Sync after installation. When u wish to use the phone as a USB Modem remove it from the cradle and activate the Mode Link and place it back in the cradle, Active Sync wont start and instead you will be in modem mode.

It is not possible to use the phone as a USB Modem with Win 98 / SE / ME unfortunately.

Can I use my USB cradle under Windows NT?

Yes, it is verified as working if you purchase the bSquare USB driver pack for Windows NT (www.bsquare.com)
