of course we do :)

Alright, here it goes:

A. Importance... :?

1. Can retain your contacts and appts (let's call them: 'C&As')even if your IPSM is distroyed (I mean deleted)

2. Very importtant in restoring your C&As in the event of experimentation.

3. (please PM me if you got other usage of this)

B. HOW? (Please follow by number)

1. First you have to install Registry Editor

a. goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER

b. goto Software

c. goto Microsoft

d. goto MAPI (in here you can't see anything)

e. click Values

You must see: AttachPath, DbPath and PropertyPath values

f. goto AttachPath, change its Value Data to: Storage CardMAPIATTACHMENTS, click Done.

g. goto DbPath, change its Value Data to: Storage Cardcemail.vol, click Done.

h. goto PropertyPath, change its Value Data to: Storage CardMAPI, click Done, Back until the Registry Editor closes.

2. Restart your Smartphone.

3. This time you'll notice that your inbox is EMPTY. Don't panic. Here are more tweakings...(don't forget to close INBOX using Quick Close or Task Manager)

4. Use your Smart Explorer.

a. You will notice that in your Storage Card, a file named 'cemail.vol' is created. There's a 'MAPI' folder also.

b. Rename 'cemail.vol' to 'cemail2.vol' (or any other name with the .vol extension); do the same with the directory 'MAPI' (with another name of course. For this purpose, let's use 'MAPI2')

c. copy the file IPSMcemail.vol into your Storage Card, make a 'MAPI' directory and copy all the files inside the IPSMMAPI dir into this Storage CardMAPI dir.

d. logically, you are done.

e. RESTART your Smartphone.

5. This time, your INBOX and contacts must be of your previous state.

6. Check your C&As thoroughly. If satisfied (send me $5.0! He he Joke Joke Joke), let's do some cleaning to give your IPSM a breathing space.

7. run Smart Explorer and delete:

a. IPSMcemail.vol

b. IPSMMAPI

c. Storage Cardcemail2.vol

d. Storage CardMAPI2

8. YOUR DONE. Please tell me how much space you've regained in your IPSM.

More power Smartphone.

Great! I was able to free up around 200kb by following the procedure you've stated. I got lost somewhere though, did something wrong, as all of my sms were gone. Nonetheless everything's fine, new sms being written to SD / MM card and not to IPSM 8)

You also mentioned that this will move the contacts and appointments to Storage Card? How will I know that it's now pointing to storage card and not to IPSM? I'm suspecting that it's still pointing to IPSM.

Thanks Kabayan :)

hi, im trying to do this, but when i go to edit the first value (change the bit from MAPI to Storage Card) there ius no way for me to type capital letters (for the S and the C) i can only change between abc, T9 and 123, there is no Abc or ABC.

Im pretty sure this is case sensitive so what do i do?

thanks

zeta101,

you are probably holding down the * button.dont hold it down.press it once if you want the first letter to be capitalized.press it twice if you want all letters to be capital.you only hold the * button down if you want to use T9 or to switch to number mode.

hope this helps

i dont think the contacts are moved in the storage card. i turned the phone off and turned it back on without the sd card but the contacts were still there and the messages weren't.i guess that answers our question.

hmmmm i noticed an older thread from july that talked about this, there is some problems with it that were not mentioned.

First, if you have noSD card in for some reason u cant open the inbox at all and i think an sms you get will just be lost.

Second, people said that thier sms sound would not play.

Third, that the number in brackets for sms email etc is stuck to 0.

And Finally if you battery is belwo 10% then the phone automatically stops reading the SD card to save power, in this event if you recieve an sms then its possible its lost into oblivion just as if you dont have the SD card there.

So im changing back to the other setup now

well, these drawbacks may be a big possibility.i changed back to the old set up already out of 2nd thought.besides, i have about 380 in my inbox and about 350 in my sent items. i still have 4.30mb left in my IPSM.i guess having such space in my IPSM wont cause me any problems at all.

This seems a much more complicated version of doing what was posted here, back in Mar 2003 under a cunningly headed topic "Moving mail store to Storage Card instead of IPSM directory". You guys really should use Search a bit more :)

It is only the mail store that is moved and not contacts or agenda or anything else. I was still able to receive SMS's when the SD card was removed so g*d knows where they were physically going?!?!

The main downside of moving the mail store is apps like IA SpaceMaker and SMS Tools won't work properly because they are hard coded to expect the .vol file to be in the IPSM. Because of this, I ended up moving the mail store back.

Your contacts and email are stored in the cemail.vol file, just like in MS Outlook, where they are stored in your*.pst file. (That's my analysis)

What happened was, I did these procedure and was able to made it ran. Since I am so fund of experimenting, there was a time that I need to make a hard reset. That means, I loss everything in my IPSM. Remember I still got the cemail.vol and MAPI in my Storage Card. I restored my cemail.vol and MAPI settings using the Reg Editor and found all my contacts, SMS and Appointments still intact.

Another analysis is that (correct me if I am wrong), contacts are stored in mxip_initdb.vol as cache such that you still can access it even without the Storage Card. I suspect this file is the Virtual Memory of this machine to make access to contacts faster. I've tried moving this file to the storage card but wasn't able to make windows work. But the 'real' DB is the cemail.vol file.

My sugestion though, to keep your contacts safer, be sure to ActiveSync it with your PC's MS Outlook. We are not 100% sure of not damaging our Storage Card so better keep more than one backup. Action Backup also is a good place to explore (for Amazing Phone).

Hope this calms you.

Have a good day.

You'r right buddy. Thanks. Just joined this discussion lately and wasn't have enough time searching yet.

Right with SMS receiving even without the SD card. beacuse you still have your SIM card. The SMS though won't be recorded since it will be flushed from the memory.

Please see my response to SPV_DMAN re contacts.

Re: IA SpaceMaker and SMS Tools, doesn't tested them yet. Thanks for the info.

More power.

I have experienced this also. What I did was configure my "sooner" again such that it will use another sound file and save, then go back to my desired soundfile.

And it worked. Am still using this setup even with the Qtec.

Sorry, the "sooner" I said is the "Changer Sonneries". The program used to access or use sound files in your SD card as ring and message tones. Here's the file:

sonnerie.CAB
