thanks stu. will do. the orange book says the e200 doesn't have the video function, is this true? surely not. just managed to get my laptop back from the other half  , and look at your review, lots of questions answered, nice work geez. =D> =D> I want one now =p~ no longer Posted from my SmartPhone!

bikespod, thats a mis-type as it states that the E100 does have video and the E200 doesn't. Strictly speaking the E100 can record video but it is not native as is the case with the E200 so relax (and buy an E200!).

thanks brody, just seen the review paul did. it wasn't a major issue i know, as ia album suports video on my spv, i just hoped the frame rate etc would be better if it was a menu option from the start. come on orange get them out :!: :!: :!:

Hi Paul

I have a list of things that annoy me most about my SPV, and am hoping they have been cured with the E200. I won't be around later, so if you could check out the following, i would be most grateful:

1)Quality of Signal - SPV's signal is rubbish and doesn't exist when other orange users have signals in medium to low signal areas

2)Properly working dictionary in predictive texting (SPV only remembers new words for about a week)

3)Being able to add numbers from your phone book into Text messages (ie. being able to send business cards a la Nokia phones)

4)a forward key (as well as a back key)

How long does it take to boot up?

I think thats about it, but i'll let you know if i think of any more

That's right, a brand spanking new E200 is in my posession, and also a Handspring Treo (got to check out the competition) ;-)

So... You guys want to know EVERYTHING I guess?

Here's your chance!

On Monday evening, at 8pm GMT, I will be in chat, armed with my E200 and everything I need, and it will be YOUR opportunity to ask me anything you want (yes anything!) about the device, and have it answered there and then.

How do you access Chat? Easy, click on the 'Chat' link above, or even better, download mIRC, and join the #Smartphone channel on irc.xnet.org.

Hopefully see you there!

In addition, I will be posting a full review of th E200 very soon, and the english moderation team will also be adding their comments.

We also expect to be receiving a Motorola MPx200 in the next week, and will be doing the same with that, so you can have a fully balanced opinion of the two devices before splashing yer cash!

:)

A forward key?  Seems like unnecessary duplication to me.

True, the E-200's keypad is small enough as it is - and right now looks very professional.

Counting down the hours for this grilling, mIRC has now been installed :)

First of all apologies for asking this here and now, but I can't be around later either

When I was burgled a few weeks ago, one of the things that was nicked was my SPV keyboard. (It was in that lovely Microsoft courier/laptop bag that I got at the "Summer Event" )

Before I go out and buy a new one at full price, can anyone re-assure me that it will work with E200? It'd be a terrible waste of money otherwise, but I do miss it.

Cheers

Guest Paul [MVP]

Here's the transcript of tonights session slightly edited for readability, and I have also attached a zip download of the full transcript, in case anyone fancies making it REALLY readable ;-)

Good to see you all online People

P

[20:07] <@QuestionBot> (Question 1) RichieM (not here) asked: Which is faster. the E200 or MXP200?

[20:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hehe

[20:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> Nice one Richie

[20:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> Both phones feel nice and quick to use...

[20:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> I haven't tested them side by side, so I couldn't say.

[20:08] <@tvo> we have

[20:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> Technically, they are both pretty identical (bar OS version)

[20:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> tvo - introduce yourself!

[20:08] <@tvo> webmaster @ 4smartphone.dk

[20:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> So...

[20:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> What were your findings?

[20:09] <@tvo> well - it seems that the e200 seems a lot quicker

[20:09] <@MrOrange> their both really the same

[20:09] <@tvo> yeah

[20:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> So we can perhaps attribute the difference to the OS...

[20:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> In the absence of other differences...

[20:09] <@tvo> right

[20:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> Next question?

[20:10] <@MrOrange> any speed improvement is really down to the OS and extra memory

[20:11] <@QuestionBot> (Question 2) RichieM (not here) asked: What signs are there of the dreaded timeclock? Is the speed increase very noticable?

[20:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> The 'dreaded' timeclock is pretty rare

[20:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> When compared to SPV / E100 anyway

[20:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> The only time I ever see it I think is when I launch camera / video, and I am recording to SD

[20:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> Because it evaluates the space available

[20:11] <@MrOrange> no the spinning thing of death seems to have gone

[20:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> But the doubled memory makes a huge difference from that point of view

[20:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> So, good news ;-)

[20:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> Agree tvo?

[20:12] <@tvo> very much

[20:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cool

[20:12] <@QuestionBot> (Question 3) RichieM (not here) asked: Is the phone software locked?

[20:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> The phone is software locked...

[20:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> But in a different way to 2002

[20:12] <@MrOrange> tvo have Orange dk given u a unit ?

[20:13] <@tvo> yes

[20:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> The phone is locked only for privileged access

[20:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> This means that a lot of stuff works out of the box

[20:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> For example, you can install Task Manager and Smart Explorer fine

[20:13] <@MrOrange> phone is unlocked for unpriv access

[20:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> If you require privileged access (which some homescreens that modify bootscreens etc.) require, then you need a full unlock

[20:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which can be achieved in the same way as with E100

[20:13] <@Midnight> yeh, blame me :)

[20:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> (I have tested this, and it works a treat)

[20:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> But...

[20:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> .net code etc...

[20:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> Runs without needing privileged access

[20:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which is GREAT!

[20:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> As do most games etc. etc.

[20:14] <@MrOrange> no Priv access requires an Orange root cert

[20:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> So the above is accurate right Andy?

[20:14] <@MrOrange> accept for being able to unlock for priv access

[20:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> Oh OK

[20:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> So what does the unlock do?

[20:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> A further level of unlocking right?

[20:15] <@MrOrange> unlock isn't needed unless your developing for Priv access

[20:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> That's not true

[20:15] <@Midnight> andif you wanna use my homescreens (doh!)

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> Because HKLM in the registry is inaccessible out of the box

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> But anyway...

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> THe locking situation is MUCH improved with the addition of prompt mode

[20:16] <@MrOrange> can we sort this out offline Paul ?

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> You are prompted if an unsigned app is installed

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yes Andy

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ok

[20:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> Any further questions on locking, please submit them!

[20:16] <@QuestionBot> FirstRate's question was: Is there any improvment on the MP3 Player? In terms of quality, ease of use and features? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:16] <+FirstRate> • Thanks for the +v •

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> The MP3 player

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> You mean Windows Media PLayer right?

[20:17] <+FirstRate> yeah sorry

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> I have to confess to not using this function extensively...

[20:17] <+FirstRate> wasn't a very clear question

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> But from playing a few tunes...

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> It seems to cope better with switching when listening

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> Again, due to the memory

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> And...

[20:17] <@MrOrange> it's virtually the same

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> WMP now supports the WMP9 codecs

[20:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which is nice

[20:18] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> But other than that, As MrO says, it's pretty similar

[20:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> I haven't tried the 3rd party MP3 player yet

[20:18] <@MrOrange> tvo any comment ?

[20:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK?

[20:18] <+FirstRate> Yeah thans

[20:18] <@tvo> but it can resume where it was if you pause it

[20:18] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:18] <+FirstRate> thanks even

[20:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ah, cool

[20:18] <@tvo> and the same thing if oyu get an incoming

[20:19] <@tvo> very nice

[20:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> !nextqu

[20:19] <@QuestionBot> muff's question was: does the e200 support full anti-aliased text on standard screens? (i.e. not games) . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> YES!

[20:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> You mean ClearType right?

[20:19] <+muff> yup

[20:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yes

[20:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Although this is not enabled out of the box

[20:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Expect a ClearType tweak from myself and Midnight on launch day

[20:20] <+muff> can u alter fonts at all?

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> I haven't tried i'm afraid

[20:20] <+muff> k

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> Mid?

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> Tweak-meister?

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> Tried?

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[20:20] <@Midnight> erm, tried and failed i'm afraid

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:20] <+muff> k

[20:20] <@Midnight> i'll keep trying though :(

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> So no for the moment i'm afraid Muff

[20:20] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers muff!

[20:21] <@QuestionBot> beckett1's question was: Does the SPV E200 have Microsoft Outlook bundled with it, just like the original SPV if so what version? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> It has Microsoft Outlook 2002!

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:21] <+beckett1> cool :D

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> A definite improvmement!

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Thanks for the question!

[20:21] <@QuestionBot> muff's question was: can you confirm the clock speed of the main cpu? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> 132MHz I believe

[20:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Andy?

[20:21] <+muff>

[20:21] <@MrOrange> 132Mhz

[20:22] <+muff> k

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Although the bootloader reports 84MHz

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> This is likely the secondary processor

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> But who knows

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:22] <+muff>

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> I'll believe HTC/O on this one

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers muff!

[20:22] <@QuestionBot> SystemicAnomaly's question was: Is the e200 better than original spv for holding sd cards without them falling out? I've lost 2 64Mbs!!! . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hehe

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hard to say

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> I've never lost a card...

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> But the mechanism seems the same

[20:22] <@MrOrange> ??

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hang on...

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> What is the trick?

[20:22] <@MrOrange> neither have I

[20:22] <@Midnight> paul, throw yer e200 at the wall and check will ya m8

[20:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Knock it on the back?

[20:23] * @Paul_[MVP] beats up his E200

[20:23] <+SystemicAnomaly> maybe i just had a duff spv!!

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hmmm

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> A few people have had the problem

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> But I can't make it fall out of this unit

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> Best I can do i'm afraid ;-)

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK?

[20:23] <+SystemicAnomaly> makes me scared to get a 512Mb card! thanks

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:23] <@QuestionBot> CP-User's question was: Is the e200 battery life any better? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> The e200 physical battery is identical

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> An 1000mAh Li Ion jobbie

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> However, the battery life is better than the original SPV and 1.5

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> It is on par with the 1.6 update

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which is excellent

[20:24] <+CP-User> cool

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Not so when bluetooth is on...

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> But without, excellent!

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:24] <+CP-User>

[20:24] <@QuestionBot> madu's question was: Delivery Reports: can they be set to ON by default? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hmmm

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> TVO?

[20:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Let me check

[20:25] <@MrOrange> ?

[20:25] <@tvo> not in the build i have

[20:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> It appears not

[20:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> That I can see

[20:25] <@MrOrange> which build do you have tvo

[20:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> On my build, there seems no option to do that

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> Sorry

[20:26] <@QuestionBot> muff's question was: have you experienced the phone locking up on you at all since you got it? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> NO!

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ah

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> Actually

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> Tell a lie

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> I wrote a dodgy app

[20:26] <@tvo> yes, a few times

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> That made it lock up

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> But I have only had it a few days

[20:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> tvo:

[20:26] <+muff> so it can still crash?

[20:26] <@tvo> Ive had it go funny in the camare app

[20:27] <+muff> :/

[20:27] <@MrOrange> i've not had any problems

[20:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ditto

[20:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> In general...

[20:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> I have found it much better

[20:27] <+muff> k

[20:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> No crashes in fairly intensive user

[20:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> *use

[20:27] <@tvo> it seems very stable, yes

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> Thanks for the question (again) muff ;-)

[20:28] <+muff>

[20:28] <@QuestionBot> beersoft's question was: is there still lag after the call has gone to voicemail or they hangup? like there is on the spv/e100 ? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> How have you found it Tvo?

[20:28] <@tvo> nope

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> It used to do my head in when pressing the red button to end and it didn't

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> And that is now fixed!

[20:28] <@tvo> works for me

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:28] <+beersoft> :D

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> rejoice!

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[20:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers Beersoft

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> A very sober question

[20:29] <+beersoft> cool, it bugs me loads :D

[20:29] <@QuestionBot> (Question 13): so how hard would it be for a normal every day user to get it app unlocked

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> :-/

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> If the user wants it app unlocked

[20:29] <@Monolithix> small bug there...

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> The process is the same

[20:29] <@Monolithix> hehe

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> But as previously mentioned

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> A lot of apps don't require it

[20:29] <@MrOrange> you don't need to get it unlocked for normal apps

[20:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> And I imagine developers will try to ensure their apps work on out of the box phones

[20:29] <@MrOrange> only if they try and access the radio layer

[20:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers beersoft

[20:30] <@QuestionBot> (Question 14): <When will the phone be available in the UK?>

[20:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> Andy?

[20:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:31] <@Monolithix> orange in oxford street told me the next 2 weeks

[20:31] <@MrOrange> within the next week or so

[20:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> Orange Retail have told me (and their staff) that the e200 is expected this week...

[20:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> Excellent

[20:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yep

[20:31] <@Monolithix> so believe what you will

[20:31] <@tvo> on monday in dk

[20:31] <@tvo> 17th

[20:31] <@MrOrange> across the group in the next wek or so

[20:31] <@MrOrange> week

[20:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> Excellent

[20:32] <@QuestionBot> (Question 15): how do you pick custom ring tones? Easy? where to put the tones?

[20:32] <@RichieM> and er sorry the questions have gone out of sync again by the looks of it

[20:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Doh

[20:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Custom ringtones are set up the same way as on 2k2

[20:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Although there is now full midi support

[20:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hurrah!

[20:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> And they sound cool ;-)

[20:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> As in the 1.6 update, they can also be stored on SD

[20:33] <@QuestionBot> beersoft

[20:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> WMA files can also be used as tones

[20:34] <@QuestionBot> (Question 16): techie one, so feel free to pass - any idea how often the Bluetooth polls?

[20:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> No idea

[20:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it's not indicated anywhere in the OS

[20:34] <@MrOrange> pm me and i'll ask htc

[20:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cool

[20:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers MrO

[20:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> Whoever asked that, PM "Mr Orange" on the forum

[20:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[20:35] <@QuestionBot> (Question 17): I know paul sort of answered this for me earlier. but with the e200 now having bluetooth is there any official news on Satellite Navigation software coming to the spv?

[20:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> I know of a couple of people working on Sat Nav software...

[20:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> But nobody I can really talk about i'm afraid

[20:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> I can tell you that TomTom told me they don't have any plans to port to Smartphone at this time

[20:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> Although of course, if smartphones sell 1 billion they might change their minds ;-)

[20:36] <@MrOrange> Orange have a demo solution developed with Renault

[20:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cool

[20:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> Any production possibilities for that MrO?

[20:37] <@MrOrange> but I don't know when that will come to market

[20:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cool

[20:38] <@QuestionBot> (Question 18): Why is it that the battery life suffers so much when bluetooth is enabled? Other phones don't seem to have an issue with this.....

[20:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> All phones batteries die bigtime with BT enabled

[20:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> My T68i was the same...

[20:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> So I don't know what else to say on that i'm afraid...

[20:38] <@QuestionBot> (Question 19): we have seen that Microsoft are working on DirectX for Smartphones, are we likely to see this as an upgrade to WM 2K3, or is it more likely to be introduced in the next os (wm 2k4)?

[20:39] <@Paul_[MVP]> I don't think we have anyone here qualified to answer that i'm afraid...

[20:39] <@MrOrange> thats one for Microsoft

[20:39] <@Paul_[MVP]> If you'd like to PM me on MoDaCo, we'll take it offline

[20:39] <@Paul_[MVP]> Agreed

[20:39] <@Paul_[MVP]> And our MS representation here disappeared

[20:39] <@QuestionBot> (Question 20): has pIE improved its support? for xhtml, xml etc

[20:39] <@Paul_[MVP]> PIE is much improved

[20:39] <@Paul_[MVP]> With CSS support, XHTML etc. etc.

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> I don't have the exact specs to hand...

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> But they are available on the web

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> More importantly than that...

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> Speed has much improved

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> (thank goodness!)

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> It's rewritten from the ground up...

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> And MS are pretty proud of it

[20:40] <@Midnight> and single column mode

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah

[20:40] <@Midnight> similar to opera

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> Page reformatting

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> Forget opera

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> On the downside, no frames support...

[20:40] <@Paul_[MVP]> But don't know if that's a real biggie

[20:41] <@QuestionBot> (Question 21): are folders quicker to open now? or is SurrealStart still a better option?

[20:41] <@Paul_[MVP]> Folders are quicker...

[20:41] <@Paul_[MVP]> As the whole phone is...

[20:41] <@Paul_[MVP]> But I personally still use surrealstart...

[20:42] <@Paul_[MVP]> The T9 mode rocks

[20:42] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:42] <@Paul_[MVP]> Depends how much you install I guess ;-)

[20:42] <@QuestionBot> n01|knuckles's question was: How does PIE respond? Is it better to browse the web with the E200 than the original SPV? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:42] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[20:42] <@Paul_[MVP]> YES

[20:43] <@MrOrange> Paul, isn't the browseing experience the same on e200 as spv 1.61 ?

[20:43] <@Paul_[MVP]> Thanks

[20:43] <@Paul_[MVP]> No

[20:43] <@MrOrange> you sure ?

[20:43] <@Paul_[MVP]> SPV 1.61 still has the old 2k2 browser

[20:43] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yes

[20:43] <@MrOrange> Ok

[20:44] <@Paul_[MVP]> For 2k3 the browser is rewritten from the ground up

[20:44] <@MrOrange> :D

[20:44] <@QuestionBot> Thoroughbred's question was: Any idea how much Orange will charge for an upgrade? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:44] <@Paul_[MVP]> No idea i'm afraid

[20:45] <+Thoroughbred> That wasn't my question.

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]> I know

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]> Sorry about that

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:45] <+Thoroughbred>

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]> With regards to prices...

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]> Orange retail received their price guidelines today

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]> So Orange stores should be able to tell you more accurately

[20:45] <@MrOrange> absolutely

[20:45] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[20:45] <@QuestionBot> SystemicAnomaly's question was: is it true that Quake is almost playable on the e200? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:46] <@Paul_[MVP]> Lol

[20:46] <@Paul_[MVP]> I don't know where you heard that :D

[20:46] <@Paul_[MVP]> Quake performs a lot better on the E200 than on the previous phones :D

[20:46] <@Monolithix> on the fly bug fixing here people, bear with us! :D

[20:47] <@Paul_[MVP]> hehe

[20:47] <@MrOrange> don't have Quake

[20:47] <@Paul_[MVP]> One of our top developers has done a quick-n-dirty Quake port...

[20:47] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it runs on E200 at 10-15FPS

[20:47] <@Paul_[MVP]> And is unusable on E100

[20:47] <@Paul_[MVP]> And that is unoptimised

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> So pretty promising :D

[20:48] <@QuestionBot> Thoroughbred's question was: Can you save words for T9 messaging? And how do ya do that? (still cant work it out on my spv) . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yes you can

[20:48] <@MrOrange> yes

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it DOESN'T lose them after reboot (yet!)

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> To save a word..

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> Simply switch to ABC mode and input it

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> When you switch back to T9

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> It will be saved

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> Bobs-yer-mum's-brother

[20:48] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[20:49] <@Paul_[MVP]> (It works this way on 2k2 too)

[20:49] <@QuestionBot> CP-User's question was: Maybe dump question - What is surrealstart? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:49] <@MrOrange> Guys another few minutes and then I'm off

[20:49] <@Paul_[MVP]> Surrealstart is the Start Menu Replacement by SpaceMonkey, exclusive for Plus members

[20:49] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK MrO

[20:49] <@Paul_[MVP]> It provides you with a start menu that doesn't pause when you go in and out of folders....

[20:49] <@MrOrange> if any questions do come up PM me and I'll answer them on the web

[20:49] <@Paul_[MVP]> And a T9 mode similar to in contacts

[20:49] <@Paul_[MVP]> It's super cool ;-)

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> It will be available for sale...

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> But remain free for MoDaCo Plus

[20:50] <@QuestionBot> Croccy22's question was: Has the T9 improved at all - can you now go back and change words / hold down on a key to insert a number? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> Aside from remembering words...

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> The T9 implementation is identical

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> No reselecting words...

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> And no holding down on a key

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> Woo

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> Just tried that

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it inserted like 20 A's

[20:50] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[20:51] <@QuestionBot> (Question 36) Croccy22 (not here) asked: @ MrOrange, will the E200 be available on Pay as you go in the UK ?

[20:51] <@Paul_[MVP]> MrO?

[20:51] <@MrOrange> Sorry Guys I don't work for Orange UK

[20:51] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[20:51] <@Paul_[MVP]> Fair enough

[20:51] <@Paul_[MVP]> Again,

[20:51] <@MrOrange> PM me and I'll get the anser for you

[20:51] <@Paul_[MVP]> Orange Retail or OCS should be able to answer, or PM "Mr Orange"

[20:51] <@Paul_[MVP]> It would seem unlikely

[20:52] <@Paul_[MVP]> As the cost would likely be prohibitive

[20:52] <@Paul_[MVP]> But please post on the forum if you hear otherwise

[20:52] <@QuestionBot> ChrisJM's question was: this is more a network question than a phone question, does the E200 support location based services (where's my nearest etc..) better than the 2k2 based phones - beersoft . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:52] <@Paul_[MVP]> Lol

[20:52] <@Paul_[MVP]> We're one out I think ;-)

[20:52] <@Paul_[MVP]> Don't know about this one

[20:52] <@Paul_[MVP]> I understand that the LBS stuff works a lot better on the new Orange World portal anyway?

[20:53] <@Paul_[MVP]> But I haven't tested this i'm afraid...

[20:53] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK Beersoft?

[20:53] <@MrOrange> LBS is a network based service not device based

[20:53] <+beersoft_eviltwin> ok

[20:53] <@QuestionBot> ChrisJM's question was: Can you set BT as on say when you get home, and assuming your BT enabled PC is on with Active synce, it will start to sync as soon as it is in range? Or do you have to manually force the e200 to sync over BT? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[20:53] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hmmm

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> Not sure with this one

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> I've only ASynced when i'm in the room

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ah

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> Actually

[20:54] <@Monolithix> cant you set activesync to schedule syncs?

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> You create the ASync connection from your phone

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> So you could go into range

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> Then initiate it from the phone

[20:54] <@Paul_[MVP]> Without needing to access the PC

[20:57] <@RichieM> does the E200 have a Floating Point Unit?

[20:58] <@Paul_[MVP]> Not that I am aware

[20:58] <@Midnight> thats a no, it doesnt

[20:58] <@RichieM> read somewhere that the e200 was a lot lighter than the spv? true or false?

[20:58] <@Paul_[MVP]> False

[20:58] <@Paul_[MVP]> They weigh pretty much the same

[20:58] <@Paul_[MVP]> Don't believe everything you read everywhere :D

[20:58] <@RichieM> when can developers get their hands on them? or do they wait til the public launch?

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> The quickest way will be the public launch, as it is so close now

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ora have a developer program planned...

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> And you can contact them for further details...

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> But O retail will likely receive first stocks

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> Next!

[20:59] <@RichieM> So, is there any chance (Mr Orange) that MoDaCo members will get preference when ordering E200?

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> Woo

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> Interesting one

[20:59] <@Paul_[MVP]> Atonks:

[21:00] <@Paul_[MVP]> Please PM Mr Orange on MoDaCo, and let us know how you go on that one :D

[21:00] <@Paul_[MVP]> Next?

[21:01] <@Midnight> i have a question, do you plan more of these Q&A sessions?

[21:01] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yes

[21:01] <@Midnight> (with a fixed bot obviously) :D

[21:01] <@Paul_[MVP]> We hope to be receiving an MPx200 in the next week...

[21:01] <@Paul_[MVP]> So we will hold the same session for that

[21:01] <@Midnight> nice

[21:01] <@Paul_[MVP]> And also take e200 questions for those that couldn't be online tonight for one reason or another

[21:01] <@Paul_[MVP]> And if posting on the site indicated that this session was worthwhile...

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> We may consider similar things on other topics

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> An 'Ask Mr Orange' or 'Ask MS'

[21:02] <@Midnight> ok, but a log of this Q&A will be available on MoDaCo?

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> And get guest speakers

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> Or even "Ask the mods"

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> It will indeed mid

[21:02] <@Midnight> good, handy for those that couldnt make it

[21:02] <@Paul_[MVP]> Aye

[21:04] <@Monolithix> i have a few questions i pulled from the thread on tonights session?

[21:04] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ok

[21:04] <@Paul_[MVP]> Shoot while Richie Fixes mono!

[21:04] <@Monolithix> k

[21:04] <@Paul_[MVP]> Well, not 'fixes mono'

[21:04] <@Paul_[MVP]> But you know what I mean ;-)

[21:04] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[21:04] <@Monolithix> :/

[21:04] <@Monolithix> i'll try to find some we havent already covered

[21:05] <@Monolithix> bikespod: the orange book says the e200 doesn't have the video function, is this true? surely not

[21:05] <@Paul_[MVP]> The e200 DOES have the video function, that's a mispring

[21:05] <@Paul_[MVP]> *misprint

[21:05] <@Paul_[MVP]> Croccy> Does the 200 come with any groovy new software. ie something better than timeout city guide

[21:05] <@Paul_[MVP]> Not on the SD I got :(

[21:05] <@Paul_[MVP]> So I couldn't say...

[21:06] <@Midnight> rumours are sd with clearvue and other apps though

[21:06] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah

[21:06] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK

[21:06] <@Paul_[MVP]> Any further questions, submit them now...

[21:06] <@Paul_[MVP]> And i'll just go through a few findings...

[21:06] <@Paul_[MVP]> Firstly, the E200 camera is actually very good

[21:07] <@Monolithix> any chance of some sample pics? :D

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> It has modes to compensate for low light, fluorescent light etc.

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> Er...

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> I'll post some in the log thread tomorrow?

[21:07] <@Monolithix> sure!

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> The e200 uses IA software throughout...

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> No doubt a result of HTCs acquisition ;-)

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> It uses IA Album 2.0

[21:07] <@Monolithix> not surprising considering recent goinggs on

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which is cool...

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> As it gives a preview of what to expect when IA Album 2 is released to the masses.

[21:07] <@tvo> But it is now possible to set a whitebalance - which is a HUGE improvement

[21:07] <@Paul_[MVP]> It includes camera, video and a multimedia album function

[21:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> The camera and video recorder can save to internal memory, or SD

[21:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> For example...

[21:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> I have a 256MB SD in my phone

[21:08] <@RichieM> at least its working now o/

[21:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> (we'll get back to questionbot shortly, keep submitting!)

[21:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> And the camera app says I have a capacity of 6612 images left!

[21:08] <@Paul_[MVP]> :-O

[21:08] <@Midnight> ypou can set the whitebalance? so, the photos shown so far may simply have the whitebalance set incorrectly?

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> And the video app says I can record 38:13 of video

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> You can set auto whitebalance...

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> Or set it manually

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> And use effects like Sepia

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> Or greyscale

[21:09] <@Midnight> ah, good for night vision aswell then?

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> The onscreen update is pretty quick...

[21:09] <@Midnight> or better than spv camera at least

[21:09] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah, low light pictures are a lot better

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> There's a 'dim' mode

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which isn't for stupid operators...

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> but for low light ;-)

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> hehe

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK...

[21:10] <@QuestionBot> muff's question was: can u explain to us plebs what the camera 'mirror' is for? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> The camera 'mirror'?

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> For seeing yourself to take a picture of yourself

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it works ;-)

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> I wouldn't take a picutre of yourself muff

[21:10] <@Paul_[MVP]> Could be dangerous ;-)

[21:11] <@RichieM> [21:08] <QuestionBot> ChrisJM's question was: will it be available from orange handset only ?

[21:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> SIM Free?

[21:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> I don't know...

[21:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> PPCW.net will be selling it as the iMate version SIM free

[21:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> But I don't know about Orange

[21:11] <@Paul_[MVP]> So...

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> You will be able to get the e200 (Voyager) SOMEWHERE SIM free

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:12] <@QuestionBot> beersoft_eviltwin's question was: is the camera lots better than the clipon thingy or just better? (not having the random amount of time between click and photo) - beersoft . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> MUCH better in that respect

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> It takes the pic pretty much instantly

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> Seems a little slower when saving to SD

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> But that is to be expected

[21:12] <@tvo> Orange DK has challenged us to find ANY phonecams better

[21:12] <@Paul_[MVP]> The convenience is awesome for me

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it's designed really well

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> I worried that when I put the phone down...

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> It would scratch the lens

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> But it's recessed

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> And hence protected by a kinda 'frame'

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> Pretty neat

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> And with the textamerica.com weblog service

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> Bloomin' awesome ;-)

[21:13] <@Paul_[MVP]> Back to Chris' question for a minute...

[21:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> I wouldn't expect to see the Voyager on another UK network

[21:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> I believe Orange have an exclusivity agreement in the UK for the Smartphone products

[21:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> Altho the E200 will be launched by another operator in Denmark I believe...

[21:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> The agreement is different for the UK

[21:14] <@QuestionBot> casper508's question was: whats the verdict on the Java engine Paul? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:14] <@Paul_[MVP]> Your question Casper?

[21:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> What Java engine?

[21:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> There is no Java on e200 that I can see

[21:15] <+casper508> any speed improvements when running Javaman kinda appps?

[21:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> I don't see any Java on my e200 build

[21:15] <+casper508> have u tried installing?

[21:15] <@RichieM> the Orange E200 doesnt come with Java

[21:15] <@Paul_[MVP]> No, I don't have it Casper :D

[21:15] <@QuestionBot> ajb3000's question was: is the pic quality really as bad as in that review on modaco? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> I will upload some pics tomorrow, i've found it very good

[21:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> And i'll show the difference in ambience settings too

[21:16] <+ajb3000> cheers

[21:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> I've found it on par with SPV

[21:16] <@Monolithix> and as tvo said, orange dk has challenged him to find a better phone camera

[21:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> But it also should be noted stu seems to have an earlier software build than my unit...

[21:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> So this could potentially be a factor

[21:16] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ok Adam :D

[21:16] <+ajb3000> yup, great

[21:17] <@QuestionBot> Croccy22's question was: What is the joypad like for games. better/worse than joystick on e100 . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> Much better

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> Easier to move than the e100...

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which was a bit 'clicky' if you know what I mean

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> The e200 is more like a laptop jobbie

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> You kinda rest on it and it goes

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> Less of a dust-trap too which is good

[21:17] <@Paul_[MVP]> And while we're on the games subject...

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> You no longer pierce your skin with sharp softkeys - they're rounded now :D

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK Croccy?

[21:18] <+Croccy22> is it easy to select left/right

[21:18] <+Croccy22> compared to up down

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> On the joystick?

[21:18] <+Croccy22> yeah

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> Well, all about the same I guess

[21:18] <+Croccy22> sometimes i press right on e100 and it moves down

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ah right

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> I had that problem with e100 too

[21:18] <@Paul_[MVP]> I think the joystick bit moved in the case?

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> I know mid had a similar problem?

[21:19] <@Midnight> yeh, the joystick housing gets twisted

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> So hopefully this will be less prone to that, but time will tel...

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> *tell

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers Croccy!

[21:19] <+Croccy22> klew, thanx

[21:19] <+Croccy22> *kewl

[21:19] <@QuestionBot> Davidrm's question was: is the Startup time on the E200 quicker than on the previous SPV's ? - Davidrm . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Er.

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Dunno

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> It seems pretty quick

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> By comparison

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ok

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> Live test

[21:19] <+Davidrm> hehe

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> I'll go on to off

[21:19] <@Paul_[MVP]> The off to on

[21:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> And post a . at each point

[21:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> .

[21:20] <+Davidrm> ok

[21:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> .

[21:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> That was shutdown

[21:20] <@RichieM> hehe a certain forum member will want photos to prove this

[21:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> now startup ;-) Not sure how this'll work in the logs? lol

[21:20] <+Davidrm> lol

[21:20] <@Paul_[MVP]> .

[21:21] * @Paul_[MVP] drums fingers...

[21:21] <@Monolithix> i have timestamps on...

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> MoDaCo2 Splash screen....

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Loading...

[21:21] <@Monolithix> only minutes though, ont seconds ;p

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Still loading...

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it's up

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> So not super speedy

[21:21] <@Monolithix> so

[21:21] <@Midnight> 44 secs approx

[21:21] <+Davidrm> bout the same then

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah

[21:21] <+Davidrm> cheers

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> I have MoDaCo2 skin...

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Oh

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> Another point worth mentioning...

[21:21] <@Paul_[MVP]> IA Called ID 1.1 is installed in ROM

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> As is Task Manager

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> (IA)

[21:22] <@Midnight> still no voice dial?

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> No voice dial

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> O have however taken note of criticisms over usage difficulties...

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> And included 'Orange Help'

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> Buried second level down in the start menu

[21:22] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> There's also the new plugin for the homescreen that has been widely screenshotted...

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> But I found it a little slow...

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> And besides...

[21:23] <@Midnight> hehe, errr, so you have to learn how to navigate menus to get to help?

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> MoDaCo2 homescreen rocks

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yeah

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[21:23] <@QuestionBot> Gorskar's question was: > . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:23] <@Monolithix> a full log will be posted later this evenin

[21:23] <@Monolithix>

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> A log will be posted on MoDaCo after the end of the session Gorskar

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:23] <@Paul_[MVP]> And shame on you for arriving late anyway

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:24] <+Gorskar> ok that will do me

[21:24] <@QuestionBot> beckett1's question was: Is E-mail support better in the E200? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Yes

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> And no

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> You have full Exchange 2003 sync

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Multiple email accounts o/

[21:24] <+beckett1> yay

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> But no native HTTPMail support (i.e. Hotmail)

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> But it's still pretty damn good

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> Exchange features are AMAZING

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> And multiple email accounts are cool

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> OK/

[21:24] <@Paul_[MVP]> ?

[21:25] <+beckett1> yer thanks

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> Keep yer questions coming people...

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> Once in a lifetime opportunity

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:25] <@QuestionBot> ChrisJM's question was: how much will it cost ? - ChrisJM . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> As mentioned earlier...

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> Orange Retail have now received prices...

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> And I believe it was in the region of 179.99 on Talk 200 or above

[21:25] <@Paul_[MVP]> But this will vary for upgrades, dependent on your bills, yada yada

[21:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> And O are doing some nice tariffs for new subscribers

[21:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> :-(

[21:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> 3rd Party dealers of course set their own prices based on the commission levels

[21:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> So check them out individually

[21:26] <@Paul_[MVP]> We won't promote any individual dealers on here ;-)

[21:26] <@QuestionBot> will[Will]'s question was: any business card sending? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> Business card sending? Let me check Will...

[21:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> Only via IR

[21:27] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[21:27] <+will[Will]> and hello all

[21:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> Let me turn BT on to see if that makes any difference

[21:27] <@Monolithix> lo will

[21:27] <+will[Will]> :( oh well

[21:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> BTW, there's a new 'quick menu' accessible by holding down 'home'

[21:27] <@Paul_[MVP]> That lets you enable / disable BT, and disconnect GPRS

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> Red Button no longer disconnects GPRS...

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> BUT

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> The timed GPRS disconnect doesn't actually work :(

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> The only 'bug' i've found I think so far

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> Right

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> BT On

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> Let's try again

[21:28] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hmmm

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> I think it might be looking for a BT device

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> So the jury's out

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> I will confirm tomorrow people!

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> Oh and Will...

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> No leatherette case at all with this one i'm afraid ;-)

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> I know how you loved it...

[21:29] <+will[Will]>

[21:29] <@QuestionBot> beckett1's question was: Is there a file explorer built in for like sending files over BT? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:29] <@Paul_[MVP]> No file explorer built in...

[21:30] <+beckett1> :(

[21:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> But

[21:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> You have 'IA Multimedia Album;

[21:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> Which is a kind of explorer

[21:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> Let me see if you can send from there...

[21:30] <@Paul_[MVP]> You can send via mail or MMS from there

[21:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> No beaming that I can see

[21:31] <+beckett1> would be nice to be able to send pic via bt

[21:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> Lets take a pic and try, hang on...

[21:31] <@QuestionBot> Hi Modaco163 and welcome to #smartphone!, to change your name simply type /nick and then your username and press return

[21:31] <@Paul_[MVP]> Pressed voice memo button (now camera button)...

[21:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Checking...

[21:32] <+beckett1>

[21:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Hmmmm

[21:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> MMS or mail only it seems

[21:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ah well

[21:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> Smart Explorer installs without requiring unlock

[21:32] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:32] <+beckett1>

[21:33] <@QuestionBot> ajb3000's question was: what happens if you attach the SPV clip on cam? (out of interest) . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> No idea!

[21:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> I would guess nothing...

[21:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> As the driver shouldn't be on there...

[21:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> But we'll let you try that one when you get your e200 Adam :D

[21:33] <@QuestionBot> beersoft_eviltwin's question was: does the E200 support sdio now? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> Er...

[21:33] <@Paul_[MVP]> Officially I think no?

[21:34] <+beersoft_eviltwin> there goes my dreams of wifi :(

[21:34] <@Monolithix> i think it DOES support SDIO though?

[21:34] <@Monolithix> just not the new now! flavour...

[21:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> Ah yeah

[21:34] * +beersoft_eviltwin looks for drivers

[21:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> POssibly

[21:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> Lets just say...

[21:34] <@Monolithix> heh

[21:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> I've just plugged my SD WiFi in it

[21:34] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it did nothing

[21:34] <@Paul_[MVP]>

[21:35] <+beersoft_eviltwin> no smoke, is a good sign

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> Looks weird tho :-)

[21:35] <@QuestionBot> muff's question was: are the softkeys more comfortable than the e100? . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> See above...

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> MUCH!

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> They're rounded

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> And perfectly usable for gaming

[21:35] <+muff>

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> The soft key design on e100 I knew was a no-no first time I saw em

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> Uncomfortable...

[21:35] <+muff> meant in general, not just gaming :D

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> And scratch off if phone is face down...

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> Now much better

[21:35] <+muff> cool

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> E200 softkeys and joystick = warm and cuddly

[21:35] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> Cheers Muff!

[21:36] <@QuestionBot> Thoroughbred's question was: <E200 or P900?> . If you would like to submit a question PM QuestionBot "!qu <question>"

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> No brainer for me

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> Although I haven't used a P900, so I couldn't really say...

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> I didn't get on with UIQ

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> I had a P800...

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> (I have most phones ;-) )

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> But couldn't stand it

[21:36] <+Thoroughbred> LOL i just ordered a P900 5mins ago now. :/

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> P900 looks better than the p800

[21:36] <@Midnight> oops

[21:36] <@Paul_[MVP]> It has T9

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> (how could they leave that out of P800!)

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> And it has a proper flip...

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> My 2 main criticisms of P800...

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> But the big issue for me was the stylus requirement to make it half decent

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> With flip closed it was very poor, flip opened you needed 2 hands

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> My first day with the P800 we went to York

[21:37] <+Thoroughbred> :/

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> And I thought i'd take some pics as I walked around

[21:37] <@Paul_[MVP]> But it was just too hard...

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> And I kept walking into people...

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> lol...

[21:38] <+Thoroughbred> hehe

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> So for me, one handed operation is vital

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> In a phone, as opposed to a PDA

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> So you pays yer money, you takes yer choice...

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> But for me, E200 every time...

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> :D

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> But...

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> Enjoy your P900 ;-)

[21:38] <@Paul_[MVP]> hehe

[21:38] <+Thoroughbred> LOL i'll flog the P900 and buy a E200 offline. icon_wink.gife200chatlog.txt

Now that took some reading! Shame i couldn't make it but i think that all of my questions bar one have been answered, that being whether you can record video for an indefinite period of time limited by storage space. This question was answered by stu_lowe2003 on IRC at 12AMish and it seems that it is purely based upon remaining storage space which is great!

Guest shanedean

Hi,

it was said earlier, somewhere in the forum, that the frame rate for video would be around 8fps ( or something like that ). Is it just me or is that a bit disappointing :) .

Had a look on an XDA forum at a video clip, and that looked very 8) . I would have thought that there should have been comparable, taking into account processor speeds on both machines, or at least usable!

Any chance of a video clip? Perhaps one using an e100 and one with e200.

Thanks

Many thanks for the transcript.

I was a bit surprised that there was very little about video download. A rate of 8fps, if true, is disappointing - I was hoping for something more practical like 15fps.

Some other thoughts -

What about video messaging to other mobiles: if so, whats the max duration of a clip? Someone here mentioned 8 seconds per message earlier...

Likewise, compatibility across the networks? For example, will theSPV e200 enable me to share video with someone on 02 or Vod with, say, a Nokia handset?

Overall last night's chat seems to have been very usefull and I look forward to the next session.

regards
