This GPS Thingy looks fantastic. You could keep the bulky GPS unit in your bag or breif case and just have the phone to hand!

Many bluetooth peripherals are available. But they won't all work. To make this do anyhing you would need GPS software, which does not exist. All gps receivers do is get a number fix on your location, the software does the rest of the work.

I do remember reading a while ago that some gps software was being written for smartphone though.

Remember that the GPS unit has to 'see' the sky, so it would literally get lost in a briefcase. Mounting it on top of a bobble-hat would be perfect.

As a compromise I use my GPS sat in a cheap mobile phone holster attached to the rucksack strap, so that it sits on top of my arm 'looking' at the sky.

If anyone hears about suitable software it would be worth posting the news.

Best wishes,

W.
