Annoying commercials sent by SMART center

Does anybody here knows how to permanently get rid off those commercials/ads SMART loves to send to our units? I generally like SMART's service except for this annoying habit of the company. I've been using GLOBE for 5 years before I shifted to SMART, and I clearly remember that GLOBE sends advisory on how these commercials can be stopped.

These commercials are being sent to me at my expense - wasting my battery and time, not to mention distracting me during meetings. I have never found any of the commercials useful and I would appreciate if they could stop it or at least give me the option to disable this "service feature".

i dont know if it's possible to deactivate such "spams". ang alam ko kasi, SMART sends them to us as text messages so baka walang way kundi ang i-request sa kanila na itigil na.nakakaasar talaga specially if you are expecting a text from someone.tapos biglang tutunog ang phone mo.pagbasa mo ng message,SPAM pala!!

The funny thing is, the messages those spams contain are not very different, in taste, from one usually gets through email like ads about penis enlargement, viagra, etc. One time I got this message informing me that I could be Maui's textmate by sending messages to a particular number :x .

What will they think of next? Cybersex with the rest of the hot babes  ?

well i tried almost everything except go directly to the president of smart communications and complain about these annoying messages. :x

i receive em' regularly night and day...and it hella pisses me off.

first i called *888 and made a complain, they got my cell number and said that they would deactivate the ads... after a week, no diffrence!

then i went to a smart wireless center and told them about my problem and they seemed very convincing that they would turn the damn ads off...again they get my mobile number and told me to wait for a day or 2 for proccessing. a week has passed and it got worst!!! they even added xmas promos...ano to pangasar!

i went to another wireless center and behold its the same old thing they do. get my number and wait daw!

next i called their *888 and asked to talk to the officer-in-charge, she said she had no control over this matter, so i asked her to refer me to someone that does, but instead she got my number and someone will call me regarding this matter. until now, which has been approx. 3 weeks no one has called!!!

i guess this is the added features smart offers! SPAM!

someone plzzzz let me know if theres a solution to this... :!:

I tried calling *888 yesterday and a Customer Care Representative was able to talk to me about it. She said that there is now way to deactivate it from the user's end. She just took my number and said she'll forward it to their technical department so that my number won't be included anymore in the list of numbers they use for mass "spamming".

Reading madazzcow's story, I am starting to have the feeling that nothing will happen to my request. I hope not :) . I will post an update on this soon.

I've known SMART to be Caring of their Customers which is why they named an entire department "Customer Care Unit" or something to that effect. They became one of the top companies/employers in the country because they appear to really care about what their customers and employees think and feel. I hope they'll listen to us.

It's really unfair for the Company to spam us. We didn't sign up for this kind of spamming and we don't welcome it either. With emails we have filters that can help us screen spam. With snail mails we have the thrash bin and the cost for sending them, by the way, is not passed on to us. With SMS from SMART, we really have no choice. We are their captive audience; all theirs to commercially use. I wonder how much revenues they are generating for sending those spam to more than 7 million of their subscribers? I know that for a 30 second commercial aired on national prime time the payment is not less than 100,000.

We know that offering an option for subscribers to receive or not receive spam in our mobiles is not technologically impossible and I believe SMART has the technical competence to implement it. I just hope they'll listen to us with this one.

If you're reading this and have similar sentiments about receiving spam in your mobile, you may want to post a reply with this comment.

sweetlys,

that's really irritating - paying for useless stuff you did not request :x

jasin,

deactivating the info messages doesn't help, either; I've done that the first time i received unwanted announcements from SMART.

(Sana yung Spam na lang ni nokiauser ang ibigay nila, magiging happy pa ako :D )

I have this feeling that people from SMART (or SMART people :) ) are reading this thread. I hope they try to do something about it. I believe their executives do not want spam in their emails; I hope they'll come to appreciate that some people, just like them, do not want spam in their mobile units too.

naku!!!

The number to call is *888

Yes that is *888

*888

The asterisk in front of the triple 8 is included.

You won't be charged for making the call and the customer care representatives are always willing and ready to listen to what you have to say (I just don't know if they'll take orders for a pizza and a bottle of Coke or if they'll still be lending their ears if you tell them that you just had a bad day or that you recently broke up with your partner :) ). They really talk to you in a very sincere manner; very accomodating. They will even end the call [and probably with a smile too] saying, "Is there anything else I can help you with sir/madam?"

Dinoalbert,

Para sa Globe yung sinabi mo. It's so smart, nice and corteous of this company to give that kind of option to their subscribers. But I have no plans of switching again to Globe... at least not yet.

Madazzcow,

I've read your last post and commented somewhere that we had similar experience about talking to customer care representatives regarding spam.

My last post was meant to... you know what I mean :)

Besides, wouldn't it be nice to have a caring, polite and warm person to talk to (read: to vent off your anger or displace your hostilities) whenever you receive spam from SMART :D I always give them a call each time they send me SPAM and will continually do so until they stop harassing me with useless crap.

It has a calming effect; very therapeutic... and it's free 8)

I got this SPAM from SMART center two days after I made the request (by calling CUSTOMER CARE *888) to have my cellphone number removed from SMART Communications' SPAMMING LIST.

:x

"Crushing on some1 bt 2 shy 2 say it aloud? Let LUV QUOTES do the talking! Jst send LUV to 777 n receive quotes that ll make any heart THUMP a little faster."

:x

Members and visitors of this site, share nyo naman dito yung ibang natatanggap nyong SPAM from SMART, lalu na yung parang related sa gambling o yung pag-text sa mga artista at boldstars :)

Maybe readers from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), consumer's groups, office of Senator John Osmeña [thank you for the cellphones sir], or the staff members of the original authors of RA8792 [bakit po nakalimutan nyong isama ang spamming sa listahan ng mga bawal :D ?] will stumble upon this thread by "accident" and will try to do something about it.

lo and behold!!!

tried calling *888 to request all SMS advertisements and they did process my request---they call it "SMS Broadcast Exclusion" and they would only require you for a valid reason(why you weant to be excluded) for approval.

I dont get SMS broadcast from SMART since then....try and try till you die as they say----

i'll let you all know tomorrow kung mayroon o wala akong nareceive na messages sa smart..

Guys,

Thanks for the tips. I've always suspected that even in a civilized corporation like SMART it still pays to be nasty at times, especially when being corteous and articulate do not work. Now I know it's true in the case of SMART Telecommunications Philippines. I NO longer believe that the customer care representatives of this company deserve the name their department was given with. Instead of caring for their customers, they wear you out :)

I'll remember to be extremely NASTY  the next time I call them.

At least now we know that SMART subscribers, particularly those with two-year contracts with the company, do not need to put up with SPAM from SMART Telecommunications Phils. You can either choose to be overly nasty with SMART's customer care (should be replaced with wear or tear) representatives (call *888) or move over to the ever-classy GLOBE or other providers like SUN.

I should probably start compiling a list of invectives to use, just in case they decide to harass me again with their SPAM?

Would Pu.. In.. work with them or are they used to it already?
