Guest dbsimms63 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I have the DC22 update and a custom ROM, but i can't get my GPS to come on unless I turn VZ NAV on first, then I get a lock, I can turn off VZ NAv, and I'm fine. But why won't it just work? Is there a registry setting i can check and possibly change to fix this?

But why won't it just work? Is there a registry setting i can check and possibly change to fix this? At last a new, a never before asked and refreshing question :) So here's how it goes. Menu>settings>personal>phone>services>GPS Change settings from 911 only to Location on. Keep in mind that the softkey OK button for all services has been inactive for all 6.5.x builds and so before make sure to map OK to a hardkey. Our GPS default settings are: port- COM8 and baud rate 4800. Auto managed so there is no need to mess with it but this info might come in handy. After enabling GPS, charge the phone, get 2-3 beers and go outside. Open up whichever app u want (google maps, bing, garmin, etc) and place the phone somewhere. Grab your beer, this will take some time. First GPS lock after a hard reset can be between 10-30 min. I had a few instant locks and in some cases- like today it took almost an hour. But once you get the initial lock it gets better, with a lock in the 2-5 min in most cases. The i910 GPS chip is F*** up, and that is being gentle. Cheer up, on the bright side they now implement a search function at modaco!

Cheer up, on the bright side they now implement a search function at modaco! Thanks, I knew most of this already. I did do a search, got "0" results, that's why I posted, Thank You. I know about how to make the GPS visible in the Location setting, Thanks again. I have seen, and used Com port 8, but the Baud rate I've been using with the best success is 6500. I can get a lock, as long as I turn on VZ Nav first, if I don't do that, I could drink a f*ckin keg of beer, and this bitch wouldn't get a lock. The only gem you provided is stating that the i910 GPS chip is a POS, but that still doesn't explain why the supposed "unlocked" GPS requires F*cking VZ Nav to even turn its POS self on, that is my question. To see if anyone knew, possibly through the registry, how to make a settings change so that WHATEVER GPS software I wanted to use, would actually turn the POS chip on. Guest urphonesux Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 i dont know but im running dc22 with one of waremikes old pre-dc22 roms and my gps works fine i load gps keep alive first and then i open my gps app, this is the quickest way i have found to get a gps lock on my omnia aside from having gpsgate running 24/7 for a constant lock but drinking the battery at the same time. what i would is hard reset and then set up the gps successfully get a lock with it first and then install everything else

Once I get the GPS on, by turning on VZ NAv, then the GPS KA will work. What is gpsgate, and where can I find a CAB for it? I really, really don't want to do a hard reset, takes me a week to get the damn thing back to the way i want it. I'd rather just keep using VZ Nav real quick, and turn it off after GPS KA is started. If you can provide the CAB or link to it for gpsgate, I would appreciate it.

Switch off and on or soft reset. if that doesnt work they have a 14 day free trial for gpsgate here http://gpsgate.com/download

I did see the current and old log files, but I didn't change them since i didn't have the other values. Anything else i can check? Edited July 17, 2010 by dbsimms63
Guest urphonesux Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) update ive got a new way now thats even better 1. get rid of gps keep alive You have to make a new dword to make the MaxBufferSize keys its all explained here in this thread step by step http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...-locks-for-all/ if you still cant get a lock after that i would sync all of my contacts to microsoft myphone and flash to another rom my gps locks instantly on this i910 rom http://www.4shared.com/file/o-__7775/Flash...e_23128_V1.html Edited July 17, 2010 by urphonesux

Guest lioryte Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I read through the post, should I concentrate on post #8? lol when you enter 512 in hex it will generate 200 in decimal If you want decimal to get 512 hex put in 1298. It didn't say change to 1298 but to 512 which will give you 200 in dec. So you figure out what's going on with post 8...Since on first post the instructions for the registry settings were not from the i910 I guess someone just copy and pasted it. It might give a pseudo-instant-GPS-lock... Sorry but I only have 2 issues with the i910 the biggest one being the GPS so I get irritated when people just...just... GPS will work for you. For me it's acting worse after the DC22 upgrade. I didn't get a lock all day today and got an instant lock after a HR. The only thing that is constant about my GPS is that it won't get a lock when I really need it

It's like the chip won't turn on and I have GPS toggle and that won't work either. The values mentioned in the thread in post 8, are the values in red supposed to be replaced by 512 and 1024?
Guest urphonesux Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 you actually cant change it to location on? its a rom issue then can u just try flashing to any rom on your phone that you know gps worked on before? I'll just reload VZ Nav, I know it functions fine with it. I'm not a flashoholic, I hate flashing my phone, but thanks. BTW, if the unlocked GPS worked so well, you wouldn't need so many programs to make it work. Something tells me Verizon didn't unlock its capabilities all the way, otherwise it would be much easier to use with 3rd party applications.

You dont even have to make any changes in the app itself. also if you have the location on on your phone how can you be sure that the gps is not running at all? I remember google used to forget that there was a gps reciever on my phone and it would flash something like no gps installed or it would just turn off. In those cases i had to manually go in and turn the gps function of the app back on. Do you have garmin or igo on your phone? basically a app with a screen that shows you it is looking for gps like this? Edited July 20, 2010 by urphonesux
