GPS problems

hi all quick question about the gps on the B7300, is it assisted gps or built in gps. the user manual says something about turning assist gps on in the settings\general\gps but my phone doesnt have this menu. also i do alot of walking out in the country where phone signal is poor and i like to use my sports tracker programs to track my miles but ive noticed when it loses a phone signal it will not pick up a gps signal also now i thought built in gps wouldnt have this problem? if i start the tracker programs before i leave the house when ive got phone reception the tracker program still works even if i lose phone reception. any ideas on whats happening
