Guest JohnofArc Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 I have a Hudl2 (previously with Kitkat). After a routine Android Assistant clean-up it is suddenly hanging on bootup. I have done a factory wipe and now when re-installing it keeps downloading (and failing to install) 5.1 Note, I had previously rooted the Hudl about a year ago to get rid of the god-awful interface. Attached is the error I am continually getting. Can I install 5.1 manually (from adb ? - if so how) and thus by-pass this issue? Cheers guys.
Guest Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) Your update is failing due to the update integrity checking, probably you "deleted" instead of "disabling" default Tesco apps. Once you restore your hudl2 internal software to a default "known" state the OTA update will work. How you get back to a "known" state is by re-installing all the default apps you've deleted. You can either do this manually or by re-installing previous updates. You need to do a lot of reading various threads etc before just jumping straight in. If you had previously updated to 5.1 after a factory reset it's still 5.1 and this forced update is just a normal OTA. If you never updated to lolipop previously then this is the 5.1 update. Either way you have options - stick with 4.x and disable updates or restore to a known configuration and then just let it update automatically. Edited February 28, 2016 by Guest
Guest char5000 Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 See my post, if you can manage without Lollipop, it may help!
Guest JohnofArc Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) I have got the RKTools software installed but it will not detect the hudl. I have tried every combination of rebooting / connecting / vol buttons / pin etc... The Hudl shows up in my computer (Windows 7 32bit) but not in the RKTools. Also - I have edited the RKTools config file as shown in numerous posts elsewhere and I have also tried to update the hudl drive software within Device Manager - this also fails. Seriously, can I just take this back to Tesco I wonder? I have wasted 2 hours this morning on this Edited March 5, 2016 by JohnofArc More info
Guest pudpoh Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 If you take it back to Tesco you will not be able to get another Hudl 2, they are discontinued. Have you tried to get Paul's rooted rom onto your device, first pinned post? This should restore what you deleted enabling it to then complete it's ota upgrade to 5.1.
Guest JohnofArc Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) I've just downloaded the required files and put in C drive. At cmd prompt I typed adb-windows reboot bootloader as instructed in the post but it cmd prompt states 'adb-windows is not a recognised command', so this route it out. Guest DynaMight Posted March 6, 2016 Report Posted March 6, 2016 I had a similar issue with my Hudl when I upgraded to 5.1. I had to copy the missing file into the required directory before I could flash, it was slightly easier when I did it because most people were still on 4.4 so someone uploaded their version for me to download, but I'd imagine that most people have upgraded to 5.1 now. Essentially you need the file from 4.4, be prepared though, any other files you've also deleted will need copying too. Since its not that likely that many still have 4.4, I'd try extracting the required files direct from here: You'll need a root file explorer to copy them over and set the correct permissions, then you're good to go. Thanks
