Application Unlocking - Possibly the ultimate tool to use?

Regarding application unlocking. I stumbled upon a wonderfull tool which gives you full control over the security model applied to an E650. I've not tested it on other, 'unbranded' phones but I dare say it would work just as well.

You can download it, perfectly legally, from this website:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en

As you've probably noticed it is from Microsoft themselves. Anyway, once you install it, it runs from your PC (i.e. nothing gets intalled on the phone). Run the program when the phone is connected via ActiveSync via USB.

Once it loads, wait 30 seconds or so. In the right hand pane of the window, the bit that says "Connected Device" your phone name will eventually appear along with the current status of the phone.

To switch off all security and to allow unsigned applications to run, click the "down arrow box" (aka the Combo Box) in the left hand pane "Selected Configuration". Select the security model you want to apply (most likely 'Security Off') and click the button labelled "Provision >>".

Again, wait for 30 seconds for it to write the new security model to the phone. It will display the new security model details in the "Connected Device" pane (which is displaying the name of your phone).

And that's it!

I was having a right old time trying to get my phone totally unlocked, but I found this application worked a treat, first time. After I did the above procedure it let me install any application I wished.

Hope this helps everyone who's been having problems.

Cheers

Chris

minor update: the above URL does work but has proven to be a little 'flaky'. If you click the link and get a blank page, trying refreshing the page. It should load eventually!

:)

If you read abit further after that you would see there is a cab in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Security Manager\ folder that you can upload to your device and run.

After running the cab the security manager will be able to provision what ever security configuration you require.

Thanks for this Azazel is risen, its been a real help.

nope i have tried it too. It seems the new e650's are well locked down. I have tried to use the tool but it says it is two tier locked and it refuses to do it. I tried the tool.cab in the same file as suggested above. Obviously this is not allowed to be run on the phone either! I am getting sooooooo annoyed with this now. I am considering sending it back. I really don't want to as i love the phone but i cannot install anything. literally nothing! My c500 is far better featured :)

I can't believe this is it though. The france telecom unlock site doesn't work and neither does this...... any one else having this much grief trying to run ANY programs???

What message do you get when trying to install the cab? After its installed you have to reboot your device then reconnect to your computer.

The steps I took.

  1. Connect e650 via active sync
  2. Copy and install MoDaCo_SPV_E650_de_Brand___Fix_Pack.PREP.CAB to the phone
  3. Copy and install MoDaCo_SPV_E650_de_Brand___Fix_Pack_0.5.CAB to the phone
  4. Reboot the phone when it prompts you to.
  5. Wait for phone to reboot.
  6. launch Security Configuration Manager
  7. Copy tool.cab to phone via active sync
  8. Install tool.cab on phone
  9. Select 'Security Off' in the dropdown
  10. click Provision
  11. Wait till I get confirmation (Takes a minute or so)
  12. Reboot the phone.

The same thing happens with my E650. When you try to install the tool.cab you get the message:

"Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions."

I'd be interested to know what other folk's default security settings are? My phone is set to "Two-Tier Prompt" - Unsigned CAB role: User Auth, Unsigned Applications: Execution Allowed

So far I've had no problem installing or running anything on my E650 - except OMAPclock, which is a shame as I wanted to see if overclocking would improve Quake's playability!

(With OMAPclock I get the message: "Initilization failed. Reason:Can't map I/O" - but maybe this has nothing to do with application unlocking...?)

Managed to get this to successfully work on a UK Vodafone 1415 (the S710 in a pretty rubbish disguise) - it was originally reading 'Two-Tier Prompt - Unsigned CAB role: User Auth, Unsigned Applications: Execution Allowed' in the Security Provision Manager and wouldn't let me 'reprovision' the security until I used the tool.cab on the phone itself (thanks for the heads up on that GuyAdams) and then it all worked very sweetly. I have now successfully installed BirdieSync which allows me to sync up with Thunderbird and Lightening (and Google calendars by way of the Lightening plugin) - took a while but a total result! Seems a bit perverse to get a Windows Mobile device and then refuse to use Microsoft on it, but as soon as Mozilla get a mobile version of Firefox out (yeah, I know, there's Opera but I'm not a big fan), I'll be totally happy... :)

Thanks for all the help people

My Spv E650 came with the latest rom upgrades installed 2 weeks earlier than it was put on the website as it was provided internally as an employee.

I have used the fix & debrand pack & also had no problems installing or running anything apart from omap clock.

I ran the utility and it gave me a two tier mode but the tool cab I copied directly to the memory card and installed from there while diconnected from the pc. After rebooting, the unlock utility then succesfully unlocked it with all restrictions off.

Just to check it I rebooted everything phone,pc and then started it up again and it reported the phone had all security restrictions off.

edit.

Just tried omapclock and it now runs fine.

I had previously run the modaco unlock, but still I was unable to run unsigned cab files on my S710 supplied by vodafone in the Netherlands, after running the MS tool - and the supplied cab it allowed me to run an unsigned cab.

I was trying to get VOIP running - I folled instructions in another thread and installed the missing dll's, but got stuck installing the settings for my voip provider (XS4ALL) as it required making my own cab file.

Now I have installed the cab and I am able to make VOIP calls whenever I have a WIFI connection available - completly automatically - the phone switches from using Vodafone to using my XS4ALL voip account.

Unlock Orange SPV E650

The only way I managed it was to factory reset the device.

Goto http://www.orangepartner.com/user/UserLogin.jsp and create an account (needed to d/l the unlock s/w) and search for the application unlock thread. After supplying the IMEI number, email details etc.. an email will be sent with a link to your unlock download. Run the cab on the phone and all's done.

Then run Paul's de-brand app (brill!) plus anything else you need.

I bu@@ered around for ages trying the unlock app from all sorts of sources - even the Orangepartner link from above - a complete reset was the only way (if you've backed up all your data and copied all the cab files for your apps onto the SD card, it only takes 20 mins or so to be completely back up and running.

Hope this helps!

Hi all

After some time away from the scene i have come back and purchased the E650

I had the same error mesages as the others and decided to let you know exactly what i did.

Firstly i went to the link where orange developers send you an unlock cab file for the device (its in the other unlock forum). I then installed that then used the application from Microsoft on the top of this thread and completely removed the app security.

I then paid for the unlock from IEMI's website

Result! totally unlocked E650

Does anybody else find that they can't access the Windows folder of the phone via your PC after using this software?

EDIT: My WiFi also doesn't seem to be working now either. If I go to enable the wireless I get the 'Connecting...' message for about 5 seconds before it turns off. The 'WiFi: Off' text also dissapears from the homescreen at this point too.

Ignore that. It's just becasue I have the phone connected to my PC at the time. I still have the issue of being unable to access the Windows folder on the phone though.

Hi did everything you mention in this tread, it allworked a treat. After I had done this I assume I just download the SPV_services.Zip.

I did this installed the cab file, but when I run the SPVServices.exe on my PC, try to unlock the Sim, I get this error "Invalid Storage Manager handle (SAFE)" any ideas what I need to do next, I believe my E650 is now application unlocked, but I also need it sim unlocked.
