Guest XNUK Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006    Well after Searching through the forums and toying with verious topics discussed I have managed to get the orange homescreen plugin working on a non-orange device. First of all (for legal reasons you must own an orange device) extract the following file from your orange device : \windows\4orangeh.dll Next place the file into the following folder (or eqivilant) of your device: \storage card\application data\home\ Next install the regsvrce application on your device (this is needed to register the file as being on your device and in the storage folder). I have attached this application for you to download, but unfortunatly forum rules prohibit me from posting the 4orangeh.dll file on here too. When the regsvrce is installed on your device open it, and you can there type in: \storage card\application data\home\ (or equivilant for your device) in the box. Now, making sure "register" is checked you can move to "ok" and click on it. Now, restart your device If you have completed the above steps you can now run any homescreen designed for an orange device on your non-orange device! I took the orange file from my C500 and placed in my T-mobile SDA II (with a higher screen resolution) with total success. Give it a go! and post your results here!  :twisted:regsvrce.rar
Guest XNUK Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Remember to post your results here guys, success or failure! Cheers!
Guest Jamma14 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 And let us know if it works for WM5 devices!! ;) James
Guest drblow Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Just to clarify ... is this the e200 shortcuuts plugin (the one that scrolls left/right), or the c500 Abaxia plugin (the one that scrolls up/down)? Good work fella ... by the way! ;)
Guest XNUK Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 It was taken from a c500 - it allows up/down and left/right Ideal for Jamma14's XP homescreen
Guest Jamma14 Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) Dr Blow - the e200 one! :D And I think we need to say - thanks to looeee for the original idea! ;) - and thanks to XNUK for using his phone as the guinea pig! :D Edited January 19, 2006 by Jamma14
Guest XNUK Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 He He .. well the origional instructions didnt work because the .dll needs to be put somewhere it isnt going to be wiped when the handset is turned off! simple mistake to make, but somewhat vital ;)
Guest fearomoon Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 unfortunately it does not work on my wm5 qtek 8310 device..hs loads, i can see it but no chance navigating up/down , left/right...
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 First of all (for legal reasons you must own an orange device) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Therefore no file-sharing or dodgy links, please ;)
Guest drblow Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Dr Blow - the e200 one! :D And I think we need to say - thanks to looeee for the original idea! ;) - and thanks to XNUK for using his phone as the guinea pig! :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :D Excellent news!! Now then, did I hear someone say that O have not included this plugin in the c600?? If so, then I wonde what the chances are of them actually allowing someone to release the plugin?
Guest Jamma14 Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 :D Excellent news!! Now then, did I hear someone say that O have not included this plugin in the c600?? If so, then I wonde what the chances are of them actually allowing someone to release the plugin? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah they haven't. :D Don't think they'd be too happy about the plugin being released though, as I'm pretty sure it's still copyright. O well as long as we hold on to our old orange phones, all should be well. As long as this technique works for WM5! Can anyone confirm? Ps. fearomoon you do need the dll as it is the plugin. ;)

Guest Jamma14 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) Hmm.. that's lame if this method doesn't work for WM5. Have you put the .dll in \application data\home and registered it using regsrvce.exe then refreshed the homescreen? If you have dno what else to suggest really...perhaps orange decided not to include the plugin in the c600 because it doesn't function correctly under WM5. ;) Hope that's not the case... PS. fearomoon, orange didn't include the plugin in the c600, the last device to have it was the c550, but the plugin will be the same as the ones on the c500 and e200. :?: Edited January 21, 2006 by Jamma14
Guest peekie Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 The C500 version will not work as it is made for the smaller screen you would need a C550 above for it to work without alot of modification.
Guest Jamma14 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 @Peekie: Are you sure the plugin in the c550 is different to the others? I don't see why it would need to be... It can get the width of the screen via the default-width="" attribute, and you only really use it for displaying images and embedding other plugins, which wouldn't be affected by the QVGA screen would they?
Guest XNUK Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 As I said guys I took the .dll from a c500 and put it str8 on my SDA ii (c550) without any issues. Obviously the c550 has a bigger screen that the c500.
Guest fearomoon Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 i've found the main problem why it's not working on wm5.. for wm5, microsoft uses a different regsvrce.exe. the one xnuk posted is only for use with 2003 devices... i found this post in msnd forums: "If you have eVC4 installed, you can find Regsvrce.exe for, say PPC 5.0, at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft eMbedded C++ 4.0\EVC\WCE400\TARGET\ARMV4I. It doesn't come with Windows Mobile 5.0..." i'll now try this regsvr and i hope it'll work.. @jamma for your xp skin...does the dll have to be in application data\home in main storage or like xnuk said on storage card?

It was just by pure chance that I realised other plugins were in the storage card that I tried registering it there and it worked.
Guest fearomoon Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 tried it now with jammas xp skin...4orangeh.dll first registered in storage, not working... afterwards registered in storage card, not working, too.. i tried both, your regsvr and the new wm5 regsvr.... i think there's no chance to get it working on wm5 device, i tried almost everything, no idea what else to try..
Guest XNUK Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Are you remembering to unregister the file in the old location, restarting the device and then registering it in the new location?
Guest Jamma14 Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Try this xml instead. It has updated shortcuts as WM5 no longer has the \Storage folder so it might just not be finding the icons and targets properly... :|XPWM5.home.xml
Guest fearomoon Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) EDIT: STRIKE!!! 2 deadlinks, but it totally works!!!!!!!!!!! ;-) ;-) ;-) "my computer" and "notepad" is a deadlink... what about the popup for missed calls and sms? still in developement? or do you have a beta? Edited January 21, 2006 by fearomoon
Guest fearomoon Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 i wonder if you could correct the xml for your mac theme, too ;-)
Guest drblow Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Are you remembering to unregister the file in the old location, restarting the device and then registering it in the new location? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can you explain how to do this for those of us that are hard of thinking like me?? ;)
Guest fearomoon Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 (edited) Can you explain how to do this for those of us that are hard of thinking like me?? ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it's quite easy... you need the attached wm5_regsvrce.exe, put it into \application data\home as well as the 4orangeh.dll. this regsvr does not have a UI, so you have to register the dll manually. open resco explorer 2003 (there is a trial on resco homepage) , select the regsvrce but don't execute! use menu -> file -> run and enter under "arguments" 4orangeh.dll , pres ok and restart your device... that's it ;-)WM5_REGSVRCE.EXE Edited January 22, 2006 by fearomoon
