Guest dude55 Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 (edited) hi, I tried a UK update to my imate jam, it failed, I tried again, and now it's complaining about country ID error. The worldwide English update gives me the same error. All the device shows when turned on is Serial or USB when connected. Anyone have any help or advice? Thanks. Edited July 12, 2005 by dude55
Guest Pondrew Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Don't panic. What file are you running to update the device? Usually if the update fails leaving the device in bootloader (the screen you described) I'd recommend disconnecting from the mini USB cable and hard resetting it (nothing much will happen, just the screen flicker and return to the bootloader). You should also restart your PC and reconnect the device to the mini USB cable. Nothing will happen, activesync won't connect. But if you run the update file it should procede to update (ensure your firewall is off before re-running the update as it can interfere with the update process). I hear people sometimes get a country id error first attempt then it works second attempt. Let us know how you get on...
Guest dude55 Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Thanks for your reply, I went with live online imate support, told me to turn off usb in activesync and remove sd card and that seems to have done the trick. I had tried the upgrade 10 times previously. Cheers.
Guest Pondrew Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Ah, the activesync getting in the way of the upgrade problem. I've heard of it but never experienced it myself. Don't quite understand how Activesync would affect the device once it's in bootloader and so not communicating but there you go. Glad you got it sorted.
Guest iamodogg Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 yo.. i'm having some issues with this same thing. Only, these tips did not do the trick for me. I installed a german rom, thinking that by putting english in the regional settings would give me english. as you know, it didn't. So, now i'm stuck with german version :) When I try to upgrade I get the Country ID thing. Then I disable usb in active sync and take out my sd card. And instead, I get some connection error. On my unit, it shows up on the display that it's trying to sync up, then it just goes away and the connection error comes up. This is only when I disconnect the usb support in activsync. I have tried taking out the sim card too. I also tried taking the files that were extracted and seperating them to figure out which file has the restriction for country id. The only thing I could find from this, is that it must be a restriction in the rom, because all the other files do not affect this error. I even tried swapping the rom files out with some from the german rom. No luck. Can some pro help me out? On a side note, what version of voice command works with this phone? Thanks for your help in advance!
Guest dude55 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Remove SD card too, try hard reset. My phone was stuck on bootloader mode, so it wasn't exactly the same as your problem. Try the online chat support on clubimate.com

Try the online chat support on clubimate.com <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Problem solved. I pulled some files from xdadeveloper's ftp and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe did the trick. I just stuck that in with the other extracted files and ran it instead of the other update file. The problem was in the something the updater looked for in the rom. it was NOT related to USB or SD or anything like that. I had tried taking the sd out b4, as previously mentioned in my other post. Thanks for a quick reply though!
