Guest Sterling_Moss Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I've just noticed that Active Sync isn't working on my E200 and hasn't for several days. When I plug it into the laptop, I get a message on the PC saying: "USB Device Not Recognised - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows doesn't recognise it" Has anyone else had this? I've tried the cradle, and an aftermarket USB connector and both give the same result. I can't try reinstalling the ActiveSync software (v3.7) until I get home, but the suggestion in the error message is that the phone is at fault. Any ideas?

Guest benjymous Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Are you using a USB hub? Apparently AS sometimes has problems using a hub, and it's recommended to connect your sync lead to one of the motherboard's USB ports

Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 I have experienced this 'not recognized' error before and here's what I did... While phone not sync'd to PC, I opened regedit on my PC then browsed to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners Notice the folders highlighted in green? Those are the partnership names not recognized by my machine. I renamed them to inlcude an X at the end of the filename. Expect that a new partnership name will be created. Refresh registry. On the next phone-PC connection, phone is now recognized.

Guest scm7rap Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 I have been having this connection problem with my SPV C500 since yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately simply unplugging and then plugging it in again does not work for me. The activesync screen on the PC says its connecting and the phone will say it has connected, then disconnected with the error message to check dialup or proxy settings. My wifes phone does the same. Reinstalling ActiveSync does not help me. I had wondered about looking in the registry but did not know what to change, so I will try the suggestion from pzee tonight. I'm also going to try upgrading to activesync 3.8 as I currently use 3.7.1. Does anyone know how to reset activesync on the phone? One thought I had was that although I have reinstalled everything on the PC the one bit of data that definitely changed is on the phone, but I cannot see how to reset this so that my phone does not automatically expect to see my PC (imaginatively entitled MAINPC). Any ideas? Really annoyed me as I just bought a piece of software to allow me to watch DVDs on my phone and really wanted to show it off today in the office. Grr.
Guest scm7rap Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 OK, I got my phone sync'ed to my PC again! I was not able to use Pzee's method as there were no profiles listed for my phone. Most likely because, in an attempt to get it working I deleted the current profile in order to create a new one from scratch. So I went to plan B - download Activesync 3.8 and that fixed it a treat. Everything started from scratch, the programs I wanted to add to my phone downloaded no probs and I can now watch Aliens in the office instead of working. So there is a third option to getting Activesync working again, and probably 'safer' than editing the registry. One other thing: When I installed the new version of Activesync and it started the connection to my phone etc, my Firewall popped up wanting to set new rules. I am now wondering if I had done something to the Firewall (or my wife when reinstalled the orig version of Activesync to get her phone connected) that blocked the connection. Never thought to look at that, so if anyone else is having probs it may be worth checking out aswell.
Guest Rui_Costa Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 I Try: Unplug Usb cable form phone restart phone restart PC plug usb cable into phone when both are warmed up and ready to go. works for me (Orange SPV C500)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 I'll have to try pzee's method next time this happens as I have had to resort to a hard reset in extreme cases. Unfortunately unplugging USB, trying different ports and rebooting etc do not always work :D
Guest kmelbour Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Hi all, I am new to the forum. I see that you are all very good troubleshooters and I am hoping that someone can also help me. I have the same problem as the initial poster. My phone will not recognize my phone. I get the same messages he or she ddoes. I have a motorola mpx200, my operating system is windows xp professional. I have tried everything suggested but to no avail. 1. I have uninstalled all my drivers and then re-installed them 2. I have uninstalled activesync and then re-installed it 3. I have tried to edit the registry but there is nothing listed under partners 4. My ports are working because I can use them with other devices 5. I tried a different versions of activesnc I am desperate for help? I used master reset on my phone in hopes that my phone would work again but it hasn't and now there is no way for me to get the information back on my phone. I would be grateful for any help.
