Has anyone successfully managed to get this poxy device to actually work as a phone yet?

I got a T-Mobile MDA, got it sim-unlocked by IMEI-check, put in my Orange sim and entered the settings found on this forum. But it still doesn't work properly.

I permanently have an envelope icon on the Start bar even though there are no messages waiting. When i tap it, it tells me "Message sent". Tap it again and it tells me again. Tap it 100 times and it still tells me "Message sent". Or the dialog box hides behind the objects on the Today screen.

Text messages seem to send when they fancy, as opposed to when i ask, and my friends recieve 3 of the same text.

I can't send MMS as it tries to connect via Orange Internet GPRS settings. Neither can i recieve MMS, although i do get little notifications in my MMS inbox which let me download them. Of course, when i tap download it spends around a minute connected via GPRS before just giving up, and then the MMS account disappears from Outlook for around 5 minutes. When it reappears, the MMS has not been downloaded.

And why does IEx connect to rubbish cut down phone Google when i enter "www.google.com", despite other internet sites working correctly.

I'm well aware that it could easily be user error entering settings, but it's not obvious to me where the fault is.

It's an impressive device, but it might as well be a doughnut for all the use it is as an actual phone for communicating with people at the mo. Please help...

Unlock: So have you voided your warranty ?

Envelope: Network related, probably an unlock issue. T-Mobile handset waits for a message from T-mobile to remove the envelope. Orange works differently, the ROM in the handset will be looking for a T-Mobile message, and the Orange message is the same as the T-Mobile "Message Sent" (A bit of a guess, but seems logical)

Multiple texts: Sound like a hardware issue, or unlock related error. As above the "Message received" is not being received, so it's being re-sent.

Google: That would be Google - I've noticed if you type www.google.com, you get connected to google.co.uk if you are on a UK based ISP. Therefore it knows Orange UK is a mobile network and re-directs you accordingly.

Sorry I can't help on the other stuff.

It's a great handset, so you may have a faulty one - hopefully it's replacable.

Good Luck

I have the XDA II Mini and have no phone problems. The message icon after sending text goes away on its own after a few seconds.

You might have warranty problems if you got it unlocked that way.

I agree, this is a FANTASTIC handset.

This is a known issue, usually caused by closing the message app before getting the "text Message Sent" dialogue box. Make sure you press "Send", and wait for confirmation before exiting the program.

i forgot to mention that. I have only had it send messages twice that way though. I would click send, almost immediately close the program (it had sent the message but not yet deleted from the outbox), and upon the next open the message would send again and then be deleted, therefore sending twice.

Cheers fellas...

I'll try being more patient with texts when sending, and the google thing worked.

Still having issues with the MMS though - I have two connections (one for MMS and one for t'intetnet) set up in the connection manager and it is set to "auto pick", but it isn't auto picking properly, so i have to manually switch to recieve an MMS. Have i set up MMS incorrectly? Mike-oh: you say you haven't had these problems - have you got a link to the settings you used as there are a few different sets for Orange UK kicking around the forum.

If the Magician comes out on Orange, is it possible to replace the T-Mobile ROM with an Orange one, or is that a very stupid idea?

I'm with t-mobile, which would probably explain a lot of things!

I could post the settings if you specify which ones and you think the t-mobile one would be helpful.

Here's how to get MMS working

MMS operator settings

Open messages application tap tools - mms setting - servers - new - now enter all your operator settings for mms - save, set as default & exit

MMS connection settings

Now tap settings - connections - connections - advanced - select networks - MMS Network - edit - create new settings for your network - select your new settings don't use autopick.

That should do it...I'm on Orange aswell so it definately does work

"message sent" error is possibly the most annoying thing about my new xda2. I also don't like how it turns off during calls and I have to turn it on before I can hang up.

I was having a similar problem with the text massages sending lark, always sending too.

Managed to solve the problem using the now invaluable SPB pocket plus:

http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en

One of it's options is customising the 'x' button, and you can set it so that when you exit messaging, it doesn't actually close the program but just puts it in the background. et voilla! no more phantom texts.

Or, save some money and wait 3 extra secs to let them send!

... which is what Windows did anyway before you bought Pocket Plus :D

As has been said, all you need to do is get in the habit of waiting a few seconds for the Message Sent confirmation. Simple as that.
