Guest paholman Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) before I completely rebuild my laptop, is it just me, or does ActiveSync render your phone completely useless until it's finished synchronisation? and why does it feel the need to Sync very 5 mins or so. Is there a way to schedule it instead? I don't use an Exchange server and I only sync Contacts, Tasks, Calendar, Favourites, and Files, and occasionally Media, so it can't be the amount of mails in my inbox causing this problem (Size doesn't matter in this case ;) ) Do others have this problem, or is it my laptop, or Outlook 2003 causing the problem? AS version 4.5 being used, BTW. Is it worth upgrading to Vista and using Windows Mobile Device Center instead, is it any better? Thanks in advance Edited September 7, 2007 by paholman

Thanks in advance AS is the bane of my life!! i used to sync with the work's Exchange server until the whole process finally cr@pped itself about a month back and has never worked since. I now sync with the laptop only (mail, calendar and tasks only) but it is FAR from acceptable. The phone goes murderously slow when connected and my IT Manager is convinced that Activestink is the culprit in pretty much all of the other Outlook based woes i invariably have (altho i think this is his method if not fixing some fundamental network issues...). For all the plethora of apps out there if ONLY there was a commercially available prog that meant AS was redundant... i would probably even pay for it!! i've said this before but if you really want to waste a day of your life, try syncing over bluetooth.....
Guest paholman Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) .....if you really want to waste a day of your life, try syncing over bluetooth..... I must have been real fortunate with this then, I got a Bluetooth dongle from Argos, the Belkin one, paid around 20 quid a couple of years ago. I paired it with my PC, opened a new COM port, and ActiveSync appeared as a service during the pairing. It's connected fine to ActiveSync via Bluetooth every time, via ActiveSync/Connect via Bluetooth on the phone itself. I must have been real fortunate that this BT dongle works well, as I've read the horror stories about Bluetooth syncing before. A mate got some cheapo one and has to go via BlueSoleil which looks like a real pain in the a***. I too would pay for a better piece of sync software, ActiveSync it's just getting far too iiritating these days. My StrTrk sync'd constantly, every 30 secs or so... The VOX (WM6) is not much better. Is there a registry hack or something to prevent it synching so often? Anyone got similar stories with Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista ? Edited September 7, 2007 by paholman
