I want to put ringtones into my phone from my pc (C500 phone)

What do the sound clips need to be, to be a ring tone? .wav .mp3?

Also where do i put it on the phone when i go into Active Sync?

Thanks alot!

Hi there, and welcome to the forum! :)

The C500 can support ringtones in WAV, WMA, and MIDI. It cannot support MP3 as ringtones (unless you've got the very latest ROM with Windows Media Player 10 on it that's not available legally in UK yet!).

Once you've got your WAV/WMA ringtone on your PC right click it and Copy, hook up the phone, click on Activesync's "Explore" then go into either:

Storage / Application Data / Sounds or

Storage Card / My Documents

and paste it in.

Now go on the phone and go to Start/Settings/Sounds and select thy ringtone!

It's best to put the ringtones on your memory card as this way it doesn't clog up your phone's memory. Also, if you want to save memory, WMA takes up much less room than WAV and the phone only plays the first 30 seconds so why not cut the rest - but that's advanced ringtone work! :D

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum :)

The C500 will use wavs (PCM-format) wmas MIDIs & even MP3s on newer models.

Put them in \Storage \Application Data \Sounds.

wav or wma. to get mp3 ringtones you need the update with wm10 i think. do a search and you'll find what sample rate you need and links to relevent software :)

Good chap! iv only just posted this and i now have it done and it worked! usally i has to post again saying "it didnt work" because you got it right maybe you can help me again..

Iv been cruising around the site and noticed there are skins for the C500 " http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=dscrip...details&f_id=17 " If i wanted that, where do i extract the CAB file? sorry if i sound like a total idiot but i have only used my phone for ringing people... and now feel its time to jazz it up! Thanks

Just downloaded the one you linked to, and it gives you a ZIP file after you've clicked the "I agree" and "Download" buttons at the bottom of the page.

Save this ZIP file somewhere and then right click it in Windows. Select "Extract All" and this should put an uncompressed folder on the system with two CAB files in it. Use the Copy and Paste through Activesync to drop these two somewhere on the phone/memory card. Now, on the phone, use the file manager (in Accessories) to locate the two CAB files and click on each in turn. This will install the files (you might get a couple of messages you have to OK) and then you should have, in this case, a homescreen you can select in Start/Settings/Home.

Hope that makes sense, and trust me - you don't sound like any kind of idiot, total or otherwise! :)

Have a read of the 'First 48 Hours' link in my sig.

There's a lot you might find of interest in there :)

Try doing it with WAV files

Ringtones either need to be in

Storage / Sounds

or

Storage Card / My Documents

While this should work for both WAV and WMA, sorry Dalecon, mixing and matching the folder names doesn't work in this case. :)
