Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Is it possible to mod the SP5 to be able to access music stored on my main desktop using WiFi? I used to do it with my HP iPaq H4150. Are there any apps which allow this?
Guest hyedipin Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 (edited) We were just talking about this on another topic. Try ORB, need to have live 'net connection, it works very well. Or your best bet setting up a streaming server on your PC and go through WMP and stream them, otherwise HTTP will always transfer the whole song instead of streaming them. Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Cool, could you give me a link to the thread. I can't seem to spot it. ;)
Guest ljames28 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Just go to www.orb.com install then go to my.orb.com on your phone.
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Ah I see. Yeh, it works pretty well. But is there a way to get an application to connect to my wireless network instead of streaming the stuff over the web?
Guest Tech Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 unfortunatly not as far as i know but only on the PPC ;)
Guest JOEJOETHEJOEY Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Darn it! That's a bummer. The PPC Resco Explorer was brilliant for that. ;) Hopefully, they get on the case when more smartphones have WiFi capability.
Guest sporkguy Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 The new version of Resco Explorer for Smartphone has been rumoured to include such functionality. At the moment, I stream my stuff over Orb, but as my WiFi is going thru the same connection as my PC, it is essentially doing the same thing. (SP5 > iMac's Airport > Router > Cable Modem, then PC > Router > Cable Modem) You can also explore the hard drive of the PC using the Orb interface on PIE. I'd say this is your best bet really.
Guest looeee Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Just put any web server on your desktop PC. IIS, apache, whatever. Don't use Pocket IE to browse it or it'll will always transfer the whole song instead of streaming them Open up TCPMP and use its web browser instead. Yes TCPMP's web browser. In the File->Open dialog go Menu->Enter URL and type http:// choose the file you want to hear and it will stream it to you looeee
