Guest Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 Well I emailed T-Mob (as many have before) and the reply I got virtually cans any ideas I had about an official WM6 upgrade.... Good afternoon Thank you for your email regarding windows mobile 6.0. T-Mobile UK will be including Windows Mobile 6 on all new MDA devices that are launched, starting with the MDA Touch in July and MDA Vario III in September. The existing devices in the portfolio will continue with Windows Mobile 5 for the remainder of their lives. Behind the scenes there is a huge amount of effort going into new devices. We have decided that bringing in new MDA devices that make best use of the features of Windows Mobile 6 is a better use of our resources than rolling it out on existing devices which already work well with Windows Mobile 5. You should therefore be seeing more new and exciting MDA products later in 2007 and in 2008. A free upgrade offer from T-Mobile US on the Dash, which is their version of the MDA Mail, has been widely promoted on the internet. Some customers are asking if they can download the Windows Mobile 6 software from "t-mobile.com" and upgrade their MDA Mail. Customers should be warned that the software is not designed for UK devices and attempting to load it could damage their device and invalidate their warranty. Kind regards T-Mobile Oh well, WM6 Black I suppose it is then! Damn T-Mob!! :) On the other hand, Vario III (possibly the Kaiser?) in September! :P
Guest Lordsmiff Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 I can't say as it bothers me all that much nor can I say I can't understand why they aren't doing it *shrug* I'm already running WM6 on mine anyway (just put on the newly released, official dopod asia ROM after trying black majik for a couple of weeks) and it works fine with mine. I believe there is a new version of black being released today based on the official release...black satin it is to be called which will no doubt be going on mine until I cook that to have all the T-Mobile stuff in it by default :) It is a little bit disappointing that we won't be getting an official, localised version from T-Mo but there's plenty of other choices to go with that will work just fine :P Cheers, Smiffy.
Guest soup dragon Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Yes, I agree. I'm already running WM6 and I very very much doubt I'd load a [probably] bloated T-Mob rom even if they did produce one. :)
Guest crazyc Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Yes, I agree. I'm already running WM6 and I very very much doubt I'd load a [probably] bloated T-Mob rom even if they did produce one. :) If TM are taking that stance, I wonder if Orange will do the same as there is no peer pressure to provide the update? Not that I would really run the official one anyway.
Guest soup dragon Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 If TM are taking that stance, I wonder if Orange will do the same as there is no peer pressure to provide the update? If T-Mob aren't doing an update I'd say there's absolutely zero chance of Orange doing one :)
Guest crazyc Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 If T-Mob aren't doing an update I'd say there's absolutely zero chance of Orange doing one :) Oh well, Black Satin should be sorted and out this weekend.....
Guest UndeadDevil Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Oh well, Black Satin should be sorted and out this weekend..... What do you mean by sorted? Is there something wrong with the release that came out 4 hours ago on the offical black site?? Damn, I was going to flash in a min.
Guest Thumper Net Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Just because tmob wont release an update to wm6 does not mean that orange wont , tmob are the best ( at the moment , but not for long ) for data packages but are always the worst for support of the phones with rom updates , guess you pay for what you get these days , be happy there are other ways to get the updates you want , you cant have everything sadly :)
Guest Lordsmiff Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 What do you mean by sorted? Is there something wrong with the release that came out 4 hours ago on the offical black site?? Damn, I was going to flash in a min. It was released a couple of days ago but several people were experiencing problems with it so JJ pulled the link - he'sa said he'll have a fixed vresion back up this weekend. Smiffy.
Guest crazyc Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 It was released a couple of days ago but several people were experiencing problems with it so JJ pulled the link - he'sa said he'll have a fixed vresion back up this weekend. Smiffy. rumours of an 02 upgrade in 6 weeks. no news re satin yet tho.
Guest falfa Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Hello all. I emailed T-mobile UK the other day regarding this thread and the email quoted above. I received this reply this morning. Thanks for your email about the Window Mobile 6 upgrade for your phone. I'm sorry to hear that you're a little distressed by what you've heard on the web forums and appreciate this opportunity to assist you. I have spoken to our technical team regarding this upgrade and they have confirmed the current situation for me. As yet T-Mobile UK has not confirmed whether we will be offering an upgrade to the Windows mobile 6. This is because it has only just been released for new phones and so not fully tested. However, T-Mobile USA has recently released and do offer this upgrade. If you wish to download this, you can go to www.t-mobile.com and download the software direct from this site. I must advise you that we are aware there is currently a possibility doing this could damage your handset. If you go ahead, and it results in damage to your phone, you will have invalidated your warranty and we will not be able to offer repair. As it has not been confirmed whether we will release this, I would recommend you wait for further information. We will of course update our customers as soon as any details become available. I hope that you find this information useful. Please be assured that T-Mobile do value their customers and ensure that our business decisions are right ones for our customers. Please feel free to email me again if I can offer you further assistance with this or any other matter. Thanks again for your email and allowing me the opportunity to explain. Guest psionandy Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Thanks Falfa... Good to know that T-Mobile customer service are just as 'organised' as everyone else... the answer you get depends on who answers your question... :)
Guest Lordsmiff Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Well, looks slightly more promising anyway :) Nevertheless, I can't find the update on the t-mobile.com website - has anyone else found it? Smiffy.
Guest mikeeey Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 according to xda developers, the Vario III is not the kaiser, its the HTC mogul/XV6800 http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=382
Guest Neil5459 Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 :P If that is the case, it's a serious step backwards from the Vario II, apart from WM6 and 256MB RAM But, 2MP Camera, slower processor, no 3G, and no GPS, unlike the Kaiser. All is not lost however! PDADb still list the MDA III as the Kaiser :)
Guest christhedon Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Well, looks slightly more promising anyway :) Nevertheless, I can't find the update on the t-mobile.com website - has anyone else found it? Smiffy. Yes has anyone actually managed to download it and run it? It asked for a US phone number last time I tried and I was concerned it would not have the correct settings for UK network....
Guest UndeadDevil Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 It was released a couple of days ago but several people were experiencing problems with it so JJ pulled the link - he'sa said he'll have a fixed vresion back up this weekend. Smiffy. That weekend has been and gone and I had to flash another ROM because of my VoIP issues (Black Majik's VoIP is broken, not usuable at all!) Now using schap's ROM (3.3b) and all is great, much better than Black Majik.
