Secany's ROM research thread... NEW: DXIA2

There's a XXHI1 (and XXHI2) upgrade available for download directly from the Samsung global download site. But that update is an MLI file and requires that you have the change language option in your phone already. I believe that means you have to be running an XX ROM currently ...

No i have now SAHH5/SAHH3 but i have problem with battery and want to change it to HI1 or higher and i don't know which one i should install.

can you past link to this XXHI1 on global download site, i found it only on belgium site but i'm not familiar with that language.

thanks

Do you have the Change Language option in your settings? If not, then you probably won't be able to use those updates. Why not use the DXHI1 EXE upgrader that Secany posted on (I think) page 14 of this thread? That should do the trick for you ...

Same, DXHI1 doesn't have working geotagging. Nor did HH3. Bum!

But it seems to be related to the camera version... I had originally DXHG3. I upgraded to DXHH3, without doing any camera upgrade (didn't know it had to be done). At that time the geotagging was working perfectly! It's only after upgrading to DXHI1 AND doing the camera upgrade to 1.09 that geotagging stopped working.

SECANY, any light you can shed on this issue with the camera upgrade? Is there any way to revert to an older version (or even better, a newer version where geotagging works?)

I don't get all this fuss about the camera upgrade. My omnia still has the original firmware (G5 or G6, german "open market") and according to the registry the cam version is also 1.09! Geotagging works!

Registry is the software version, not the firmware version no?

Just ignore this cam registry value. It has no relation to actual camera module firmware, its the version of OS-side driver that interacts with camera module.

Ok, good to know... still, fact is that geotagging used to work previously, but does not anymore since I updated to DXHI1 and did the camera upgrade (*#2470#).

Is there anyone out there that has done the upgrade to Secany's DXHI1 and camera upgrade and still has geotagging working?

I think another good question here may be who has upgraded to DXHI1 and NOT done the camera upgrade to see if geotagging still works? This way we can rule out if it's the camera FW upgrade thats the issue, or the ROM upgrade.

Also another thing that may be worth trying is flashing back to the ROM that had geotagging and running the camera update again to see if it downgrades the camera FW to the working version. I did report that the camera update also ran on DXHH3 as I tried it before I upgraded to DXHI1 so there may still be hope for those of you that have lost this function yet.

Geotagging is not really a big thing for me as the picture quality of the camera now is top notch for a phone. And I have already set my phone up about 3 times in as many days since I got it so I'm not in a hurry to go flashing it again just yet to try this out when geotagging doesn't really appeal to me lol Although I haven't ever used geotagging before so maybe thats why.....

Yes, HH3 seemed to have no Geotagging issues or at least it did not wait loading the camera waiting for gps status. I did the camera update after the DXHI1 ROM update and sees the same issue. I also noticed GPS locking slower than G3/HH3 but at least it does lock on. Battery life is slightly improved over HH3 but still nowhere near G3, especially when you have gprs session running. Unit is not as hot but is still warm. G3 never felt warm so maybe that explains the better battery life.

Thanks for this SECANY and would hope to hear you shed some light on these issues.

Agree...

But are you saying you ran the camera update having DXHH3, and still have geotagging working properly?

After you switch the GPS Option on in the camera application, does it tell you to exit the application to activate and then when you open the camera again it waits until it has a fix (NEW), or does it open the application immediately and the fix comes later (OLD)?

I've never used geotagging at all, was just giving some suggestions for those of you ho have lost it. I'm presuming when I ran the camera update on DXHH3 that it updated the camera FW ith the DXHH3 files so may be an option for those of you who want to revert.

But saying that I don't believe anyone ever used the camera update before DXHI1 came out so the geotagging bug could still be in the DXHH3 files ;) (Maybe try DXHH1 or earlier, backtrack till you find one without the bug)

Like I said geotaaging is not a big issue for me as I have never used it anyay so I'm not in a hurry to go setting up my phone all over again for it lol

Ok, but if I understand it correctly, you may be one of the few who is on DXHH3 and has ran the camera update...

Before I reflash DXHH3, can YOU check if geotagging works on your device? The only thing you need to do is switch the GPS option on in the camera settings, go outside and take a picture when the satellite icon is white (wait a bit longer just to be sure). Once you have taken the picture, click on the i at the bottom left, and you will see the coordinates it recorded... any of them is zero?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sorry but I can't help you there as I upgraded to DXHI1. I just tried the camera update on DXHH3 whilst I was waiting for my Omnia to get a full charge

Thats why I keep saying I'm not in a hurry to go reflashing ;) Geotagging is not an issue for me personally as I never used it. I'm just giving suggestions for those of you who do ant it back to try.

ZHHH3 > HI1 - with camera update = camera with gps issue.

Reflashed ZHHh3 > HI1 - without camera update = same camera gps issue - so it is an "bug" in HI1.

Went back to ZHHH3 - no camera gps issues (did not update camera).

But gps fix on ZHHH3 seems to take an eternity. Actually, didnt have the patience to wait it out > 10mins waster. But with enhanced gps and download enabled, fix is almost immediate.

Was previously on ZHG3 and gps fix still slow but got it with 5-10mins.

How is it that a company the size of Samsung cannot produce a usable gps chip ???. Using my external BT Holux, fix takes seconds. But one reason I switched to the Omnia was so I would'nt need to carry an external unit. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Perhaps the experts could help on 1 issue - have -never- ever managed to get the phone updated, it always fails have tried many. Install/reinstall modem drivers numerous times, installed/reinstalled activesync many times. No joy.....

And silly question - no where is there a discussion about what the phone part of the upgrade is supposed to do. Any pointers?

Thanks

Thanks bro, I really appreciate your help, I will give it a try, I know you and you have a very good reputation in these things! :(

I just have a very bad history with arabizer programs, they make the device very slow and sometimes hangs the device for no reason!

I would rather have something from samsung, like with the Touchwiz, I know that is not WM but I wish if they do something like this.

Anyway, I will give your software a try and hope this would be it.

If I got my hands on the full arabic rom (i900JPHI5) I will share it that is for sure, I will be after samsung here to give me this rom.

I hope Secany can share this rom or some solution officially from samsung...

Thanks again brother...

Guys,

What is the camera update process? Is it just :

type in *#2470# into the dialler?

I tried that and get a message about waiting 2 minutes ... and it disappears with no other message that it has completed. How can I tell it's updated and I can reboot??? Are there other steps to the process?

Was the same in my case... I think that's just it. That is why Secany was advising to wait for 5 minutes without switching off the phone... to make sure the update process had finished.

Cool, did yours work then? Did it update? How can I tell the difference?

Thanks a lot for testing! This proves indeed that the issue is with HI1. Strange thing though is that the same (or similar issue) was happening to other people on other ROM versions... maybe similar to this HI1.

All in all, DXHI1 is a must for me as it seems to take care of the battery issue. Now looking forward to DXHI2 from either Secany... or SAMSUNG! ;)

I hope Secany can pass the message on to Samsung, as he seems to be well connected there
