[UPDATE] Dumping Omnia ROM from device

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I believe I once saw a topic (or post(s)) about how to dump my Omnia's ROM from the device, but I honestly cannot find it now. I want to try the new roms popping out almost everywhere but really need to have a backup that I can go back, if anything bad happens. (I'm running Turkish JUHH2/JVHH2 and can't seem to find it anywhere on the net)

It would be really great if someone could do a step-by-step guide for noobs like me to extract my current ROM, for backup purposes or smth. (I guess it also should include steps to get the obtained files into an .EXE installer)

Any volunteers? (for the guide, or to lead us to an existing guide)

Thanks

UPDATE (22/11/2008): The dump is ready and finally uploading finished. Links are at 12th post, here on this topic.

C'mon, doesn't anybody have a link to follow? Everybody on these forums work/wait on Omnia ROMS and noone thinks about our original/existing ROMS? It's hard to believe IMHO!

Here is a short instruction on how to dump a i900:

Requirements:

Activesync installed

Samsung Modem Driver Installed

1. Enable access to ROM by setting reg-key HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies 00001001 from 2 to 1

2. Reboot your i900

3. Download isutils to dump your ROM from http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=2ce11b6...2db6fb9a8902bda

4. Evaluate exact size of your ROM by typing the following at command prompt

CODEpdocread -l

You will get something like

128.58M (0x8095800) DSK1:

| 1.35M (0x159800) Part00

| 3.08M (0x313800) Part01

| 124.15M (0x7c27800) Part02

Which means the flash memory (=DSK1) is split in 3 partitions with total size of 0x8095800 bytes = 134.830.080 bytes

5. Dump your ROM using the evaluated flash size by typing the following at command prompt

CODEpsdread -1 0 0x8095800 i900GXHI5.img

Afterwards the ROM can be flashed by using Mirage LV http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=2ce11b6...2db6fb9a8902bda

using EBOOT+PDA+PHONE button

hope it helps! this was taken from Link

That is a great question man and if the answer is yes it will save us flashoholics a lot of time going back to what we like when we try a newer ROM or are waiting for something we have tried to get some bugs worked out

Hi,

Thanks very much for the info, Hydroxpert. The only problem is, I cannot get Mirage LV at that address. Anybody have an alternative?

Hi,

I've dumped my Omnia's ROM with the above method and it worked well. The .img file runs with an app (USDL4?) within my XP but I don't recall installing anything like that.

Anyway, the current "thing" is that, the dump I get is 125MB in size, while the ROMS i've downloaded (official and custom ones) are slightly bigger (around 130-135mb?). Is this normal?

(That is an important question, as it will decide if my Omnia gets bricked when I re-flash my original firmware to test it)

Hi emre,

Could you please share the USDL4 programme. I have also dumped my ROM into an image file using the step above but I'm not sure what to do next.

thanks

Honestly, I don't know that program, I didn't install it, I didn't know it did exist in my system until two days ago

I just have one guess, and that is: It just happened when I ran an updater. I did run the ROM updater by PeSco (I hope I wrote it right) just to check what it looked like. Maybe, it did associate itself with .IMG files when ran. I really don't have any other explanation about the updater. I even don't see it in my Add/remove programs list.

By the way, I'll be uploading the image I dumped from my Omnia (my original - Turkish JUHH2/JVHH2) somewhere, beginning next week (as I'm off city for work since yesterday).

Sorry people, I'm very tight on bandwidth nowadays and can't afford to upload it again...

Maybe if somebody did actually download it before Rapidshare expired them all.. Sorry.

I am having a minor/major problem with this - I have a original Czech ROM which i want to backup, but when inputting the command psdread -1 0 0x8152800 i900XXHJ1.img I get following error: ITReadSDCard - Parameter is incorrect.

I am using the correct size for the ROM, but i have no idea why it won't let me dump the ROM. Any ideas?
