Guest roops4fun Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Hi folks, I have an MPx 220 from Cingular with ROM versions... Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edn ver 4.21.1088(Build 15101.1.3.2) Operator : 0.480.1003.0 Manufacturer : 1.430.0.0 Microsoft : 4.21.15101.0 Language : 0.210.0.0 File System : 4.21.15101.0 I want to format the OS and re-install it once again. I tried using the MPx 220 Software Update tool, but it seems to say, "There are no updates available currently, please click OK to quit". I know the firmware already on the phone is the latest, but the phone seems to have a unique trouble with identifying the Short Messaging Service(SMS) messages. If my connection provider sends me a message, the phone simply takes some random name from my Address book, and displays the message with their name as the sender. Has any of the other users come across a similar situation like this?My other problem findings include, feeble earpiece volume, homescreen issues, missing calls frequently etc.. I'd appreciate if someone would take the time, to make a reply and help me out with this. Like I said, I want to un-install and re-install the OS...and I don't seem to have a clue to, how to...?
Guest PeterG Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Although I have never owned a Mpx 220, I think the thing you're looking for is a "hard reset" or sometimes called, "master reset". This should reset the phone to the factory defaults for the current version of ROM. There is no way to "uninstall" the operating system since it sits in the physical ROM of the phone. But such a reset would do what you're looking for....
Guest Pondrew Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 I'd give the same advice as PeterG. Topic moved to Help & Advice
Guest roops4fun Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 hi, Thanks for your input guys. But how do you do this master reset? And what happens after that?Should one use the Motorola Software Update tool to reconfigure the software?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 You hard reset by powering off the phone the press and hold the center button then press the power button. When the phone starts up let go of the buttons and you will see a message saying master reset YES NO select YES and the phone will reset itself.

Pondrew and Peter, thank you for your inputs too. I did the reset, and at first the darn'd thing gave me the scare of my life, it kept saying 'No Service' for about 2 minutes. Now it's working alright. Once again, thank you very much for your help.
