Custom ROM: MoDaCo DTHJ9-MCR03 - Last update 03/11/08

Did HJ5 as soon as it came out. No problems, but no solutions either! I mean, the well documented problem of the "blank screen" which many users experience still persists. I will upgrade to HJ6, but still think it could gain by being more simple.

For example, why can we not have

1) the "My Documents" folder inside "My Storage"? Imagine how much space we would free on "Device Memory".

2) I would also like to see "Explorer" AND "Opera" gone... so the user may decide which one to install.

3) Ever thought about getting rid of Samsung's cute implementations of the "Time" and "Phonebook"?

4) Maybe a pre-installed registry editor?

5) All media players gone, so, again, the user can decide?

6) ALL Media, ringer tones etc. by default under "My Documents" (see (1) above).

Etc etc.

For the time being, thank you very much - again!

the first point would be best thing for me but I think it's not possible to make it bc when ever I talk about it nobody answers. And fifth point would be also nice

But after all this ROM is stable without issues for me.

Thanks

I don't think IE can really be removed. I'm guessing that like the PC version, IE is used to explore directory contents (among other things). Besides, I can't access my network (\\pcnamegoeshere\) through the file explorer. For some reason, I always have to use IE first before it's passed to the file explorer.

Just got the fist crash with you ROM. It's the first one since months.

I think it happened because of the homezone support of the DTHJ6. I'm from Germany and bacause of the crashes whitch are caused by the homezonesupport, I switched to DX-Versions and never had a crash again. This makes me very sad, because I like your ROM very much.

Is the a way to bypass this?

I can't update. It keeps saying that a time out ocurred...

I'm on vista 64, does any one know if this might be the cause of the problem?

NO!!! Thats definitly not the problem! VISTA (especialy 64) is perfect for Samsung Rom updates!

Havent you noticed, all Omnia rom update instructions has Vista mentioned as the best and only platform for rom update. Just look at the first post in this tread or any other rom update forum on this site or other and show me just one where you dont have vista mentioned as the only true way.

Quote from first tread in this forum (Pauls instalation instructions):

"Update format:

- Executable for Windows XP... ensure you have the Samsung Modem Driver installed before use!"

This obviously means you SHOULD use VISTA.

But seriously please explain to me why the %#&˘%! do you insist on using Vista even when your told to make sure to use XP and still have the odasity to ask:

"what am I doing wrong?"

I dont have any other way of defining stupidity.

If you dont have XP go over to a friend, its just a 20mins thing.

Yeah, I will add this in the next ROM!

You are doing just great work! Just for my part, I would leave any additional progs like "Batti" and stuff out. Everybody could install them by .cab.

Any estimate for the next rom already?

AutoInstall

I am using AutoInstall (PPCGeeks AutoInstall) which has the benefit of enabling the easy moving of files and installing registry patches. Whilst I have used UC on another phone, it is a pain to setup and test (ie reinstall after hard reset). With AutoInstall you can run any part of it to install say .xml files, transfer files at any time.

With each new program I add to my phone, I now create an .xml file with the settings using CeRegEditor to extract the settings easily from the registry and pop this into the AutoInstall scripts folder.

I can provide more detailed info if people are interested.

Paul, is the patched SECDialler.dll included in your custom roms and if so can you post an unmodified one? I like the locking feature when on a call as i tend to use a bt headset so start a call on the phone and put it in its case and having the keys locked at that time helps prevent pressing unwanted keys. Thanks.

Guest Paul (MVP)

The patched SECDialler ISN'T included in the ROM.

re: next ROM, i'm experimenting with Opera as a CAB and Flash Lite 3.1, but since FL3.1 breaks the widget UI, I can't see a lot of point installing it in the base ROM...

I would rather like the Widget UI and all other Samsung Themes out of the rom anyway...

Hey Paul,

Great work here. Have had 01 installed since release, all is running well, have installed all other little apps as seperate and all works good as. Installed flash 3.1 cab and it works well in 01 firmware, youtube runs untold better, (loses wigets as we know).

But I do miss Silverinbox. I know I must be only one on earth that misses it but I like the interface and with the reg edit to make it default it pops up without hassle.

Is there anyway to install it as seperate app?

Keep up great work

Cheers....

motofone

EDIT:

Solved thanks Paul I got into kitchen and extracted the SilverInbox.exe and found I also needed the si_impl.dll. The one left in your cooked rom was not compatible with this exe. Looks as though they are loaded together and must match. Interesting point.

Cheers....

Hi Paul,

Well... i finally took the plunge.

Got fed up of waiting for Vodafone to release their own updated firmware and flashed with your custom one!

All went well... activesync installed, modem driver installed, update ran etc etc...

Omnia now flashed with:

PDA: i900DTHJ6/MCR02

PHONE: i900XXHJ1

So far the rom is great!

However,... i do have slight issue with it and was wondering if you or anyone else has the same problem!?!? ...

The Remote Desktop Client you have cooked in keeps crashing...

wptsc.exe and device.exe crash every time i start remote desktop and the client wont connect to any remote machine anywhere.

Any advice you can offer? Hard reset? Reflash?

Ok... solved it... just reinstalled the remote desktop client from a CAB and all is well.

Maybe something to look into though as to why it wasnt working as cooked?!?! Like i said... i dont know if anyone else has had the same issue...

can you explain in details what do you do to add an application?is it possibile also add it with personal settings (for example if I add coreplayer, I want that this application start with particolar settings, different from default corepolayer settings) and registered licence?

Geesh... Calm down.

I noticed that they say that it works if XP, but i haven't heard anywhere stating that it won't work in vista.

Vista is the only OS i have installed and i have absolutely no intetion to install another one just to upgrade my omnia, but before i went to all the trouble for finding a XP computer to use i wanted to be sure that i just can't use it on vista...

But anyway... Despite your harshness thank you for your answer.
