Guest jerre Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Jerre.Install.Smartphone Little Utility to install '.cab'-files directly on your mobile device from you PC via context menu (right-click on file). Context menuitem will only show up on '.cab'-files. Will not destroy any other associations there might be with '.cab'-files during install or uninstall... Guest dinoalbert Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 can I use this with my E100/ tanager? Thanks!
Guest jerre Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 can I use this with my E100/ tanager? Thanks! That should work fine. ( You might have to install .Net framework 1.1 on your desktop PC, But it will tell you that during installation) Hope it works ! Let me know ! Cheers, JeRRe
Guest nedge2k Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Is there a difference between this and MoDaCo SmartRun?
Guest jerre Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Is there a difference between this and MoDaCo SmartRun? Not really ... I give total credit for the idea  of writing this to Paul from Modaco. The only things I have changed ,and my reasons for rewriting it : -The context menu item (when right clicking) will only appear when right-clicking on .cab files. -The application is not saved in the 'c:windowssystem32' folder Hope this helps ! Cheers, JeRRe
Guest nedge2k Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 I dunno though. I kind like it being there for other files too. Makes life a bit easier. If you send say a jpg over, the phone will try and install a give you an error. No problem, its still there, just has a name like LAMBO~1.jpg instead of Lamborghini.jpg. Maybe you could put this in your prog to make it easier to copy files but have better file support and the option to select a destination folder. E.g. Right click on .CAB = Send and Run (but to Phone and not SD as those of us with E200's usually have it turned off due to poor battery life). Right click on jpg/wmv/mp3 etc. = Choose destination file and copy. Just an idea.
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 I like the program SmartphoneSendTo that Matt Kirby made .. it supports a wide range of different filetypes, and best of all, it doesn't need .NET Framework to work o/ >>SmartphoneSendTo That being said, I'm all for programmers sharing their freeware, even tho it's something that's already out on the market! Two thumbs up and keep up the good work!
Guest jerre Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 I am affraid I will not go back to programming under anything else but .net at the moment... I will make this application more versatile though , and will make your suggestions possible ... Just give me a week or so ... It will be called mmmhh , let me see : Jerre.Transfer.Smartphone It will so far do the following all in one : -Install .cab files on mobile device -Copy any file to mobile device (picking a folder ?, create new folder ?) -Copy any file to mobile device (picking a folder ?, create new folder ?) -Create shortcut for any copied file in start ... mmmh... maybe two weeks ... :) Any other suggestions ? Please let them be known and I will try my best ! Cheers for the feedback , JeRRe http://aa.1asphost.com/jerredb
Guest nedge2k Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Cool. Cant wait. :) Had a play with smartphonesendto and it'll only copy certain files e.g. home.xml and not .xml. The destination is selectable but you have to edit the .ini file to set it for each file type. Be interesting to see how you address these issues. Take it easy. Alex.
Guest nedge2k Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Had another couple of ideas: *When you send a file to the phone instead of picking a folder out of the entire phone why not assign default root folders to different types of files? E.g. When i send an mp3 over, instead of asking where in the phone i want to put it, the program asks where in the default root folder i want to put it. My default root folder for music would be "My Music", which has the folders "Trance", "Hard House", "Hard Trance" etc. in it, so when sending the file it would just ask where in "My Music" i would like to put it. You could add a config dialog to set default folders for the different file types and add an "Enable/Disable Default Root Folder for this type" option. *The option to "create a new folder" when selecting a destination folder. *A file association option where you can choose what files you want to be able to send. *A send and execute option for all file types. E.g. you may want to send a jpg over and view it straight away, run an .xml to enter some tweaks into the reg (not quite sure how that would work coz it may just open up in internet explorer), install a .cab, hear a new ringtone straight away etc. and again have the option to "Enable/Disable Send and Execute for this type". *One last suggestion (promise  ), a send and add shortcut option for all file types. After a file is sent a window could pop up asking if you want to add a shortcut to the start menu.
