Guest Dr Who Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I know it has been reported that it can be done but it is not at all obvious how it is done. So here is a quick guide. First of all I was sending files from a C500 to a C500, so this may have made the job easier. However, I think this method will work from the C500 to any BT device! Also I had added the receiving device to the Bluetooth devices on my phone first, although this may not be necessary. So, 1) Activate BT on both devices, search for devices on the sending C500 and add the receiving device to list of devices on your phone. 2) Go into the Explorer app, find the file you want to send and then under Menu use "Send via IR" (d'uh, obviously?!?!?!). The phone then shows two little icons with 'searching' by them. After a few seconds it will then connect and then the icon changes to an IR-sending type icon (it's even in RED not BLUE!) and the file transfers via BLUE TOOTH! The transfer rate is pretty slow. I think somewhere around 200-300K/minute. 3) On a C500 the received file goes into 'My Documents'. HOWEVER, if the file is big (I have succesfully transferred 54k, 314K but failed on 5.4meg) then for some reason it is not written to the memory. See the thread http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1139...3983&highlight= for a discussion. So there you go. Hope that helps some folk. Another example of non-intuitive software design. Also does anyone have a feel for the rate of BT transfer when using Activesync? I hope it is a damn site faster than using Explorer!
Guest maxh2003 Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 FWIW ActiveSync transfers to my E200's Storage Card, via BT, at 1 megabyte per minute, give or take.
Guest stretchie Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 I have a C500 and have succesfully sent (on all of twooccasions), .wav .wma .gif and .jpg files to another (non C500) BT phone (a Sony Ericsson and a Nokia) but found it EXTREMLY difficult and inconsistent to do. For some reason it hardly EVER works. I have only managed to do it through the standard Explorer on the phone. I have a copy of Full and registered Copy of SmarExplorer but there is no option to send by BT. Under 'send & receive' the only option's I have are 'Send by email', 'send by infrared' and 'receive frim IR'. Can anyone help. Surley my all singing, all dancing C500 is better than the so called "DUAL phone' from Ericcson or a Nokia 6600.
Guest Dr Who Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 Do you see it sending on the C500? Does the receiving device show that it is receiving data? Are you pairing devices before you try and transfer data? Have you tried using "send by IR" in Smartexplorer? I don't use it but since that workd for the default File Explorer maybe it is the same in Smartexplorer?
Guest stretchie Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Cheer to all who have helped. I had version 1.0 of 'SmartEplorer', don't know how as downloaded less than a month ago. If anyone else is having the problem sending files by BT then check your version number. You need V 2.0.2, if you don't have this then go back to the Binary's website and get it... Then you will have the option to 'Send file by IR/BT' Happy sending guys
Guest Hainsey Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 how do you find out your version number and do you mean the version of window's? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest stretchie Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Good point Hainsey. I wasn't too clear abou that point. Sorry. Open Smart Explorer, press the soft key under 'Edit' then choose option 7 (About SmartExplorer). It will tell you at the top what version you are running. You need V 2.0.2. Go back to Binary's: Binarys Download Page And download it
Guest ukmidsguy Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 Hi I've tried to send files via Bluetooth to my mate's Motorola V80 using both the default File Manager and Smart Explorer. Each time, it fails to find his phone and just sits there 'searching'. He can send stuff to me no problem and when I search for devices from the BT menu it finds his phone and lets me pair with it. Any ideas? Cheers
Guest Dr Who Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Has he ever received a BT file on his phone? If not he may need to change a setting to allow him to receive incoming data.
Guest ukmidsguy Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Yeh, he can receive files from other phones no problem. If I unpair from him then his phone appears in the list of devices to send to on my C500 but his phone name is not in a friendly form - just a lot of characters!
Guest Dr Who Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 That is normal - that is his device identity. To be honest the problem is probably on his phone, not yours, so I wouldn't worry about it too much!
Guest ukmidsguy Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 But he has changed the name of his phone to something much more friendly in his BT setup. If I use my Nokia 7610 then his phone appears with it's friendly name... Will try with someone else's phone and see what happens.
Guest stretchie Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 UKMIDSGUY you are on a topic close to my heart... I still have the odd problem sending and receiving files by BT, but not nearly as bad as I was only two weeks ago. I have a C500 and everyone with standard Nokia and Sony phones seems to have it SOOOOOO easy, they turn BlueTooth on and it sends and receives, what could be easier.. That's how you feel now isn't it? Thought so... ANYWAY, forget the standard 'File Manager', what version 'SmartExplorer' do you have? 2.0.2? Good. If not, go to the binarys website and get it Binarys Download page ... NOW!! (I've even bought and registered it.... But you don't have to. Great. I was wondering why you have to keep BT setting as 'DISCOVERABLE' so people can send you stuff, but keep changing to 'ON' when you want to send something. P A I N I N T H E A R S E. But been informed that if you keep it on 'DISCOVERABLE' and change IR setting to 'Accept incoming beam' this overcomes that. Not been able to test yet so have a go and let me know. Also try getting a program called MobiLuck. You turn it on and can send 'messages' or 'messages as contact' via BT to other phones aswel as files. Quite good. Also check Google for "BlueJacking" for full explanation. MobiLuck is FREE (we LIKES free stuff) but apparently there is another program coming out in the next few days but cannot remember what it is called. This will cost a TAD over £10. The owner was on a thread saying it is better than mobiluck but that will be confirmed, I am sure, by MANY of the members here. I hope this helps. I still have the odd prob but I put this down to compatability between the handsets and that I don't know anyone else with a SmartPhone and the normal handsets will not read as many different file types as these phones... IGNORANCE may be bliss... Let me know how you get on.. Maybe you could teach me something if you get it down to a fine art..
Guest ukmidsguy Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Ello Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Sorry for the delay but I've been on hols for a week! I've got version 2.0.2 of SmartExplorer too. Will try leaving my BT setting as discoverable (already have Accept Incoming Beam on) and see what happens. Will try it with other phones to as have only experimented with my mate's Moto V80 so far. Have you had the problem with other people's phones having 'odd' device names?
Guest stretchie Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 No probs.. When you say STRABGE device names do you mean lots of numbers and letters? If you do then as far as I know these are just the device ID's in Hexadecimal code. Sometimes takes a while to get the actual name from the phone.
Guest ukmidsguy Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Yes, that's what I mean. I will try waiting longer to see if it grabs the correct name...not had that problem with any of my previous phones though (taking a long time to get the name).
Guest dwj.mc Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I have managed to send files from c500 to pc using smart explorer but wuthout altering anything, it works maybe 1 time out of 5! Cant help thinking after looking at the loads of problems posted on this site that we are being sold bluetooth before it has really been sorted out. Fair enough except that products aren't cheap!
Guest Dr Who Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Somebody else had this problem, quite a while ago. Not sure if there was a resolution to it - you may need to search the forum areound September time.
