well i can get to the 3 colour typhoon screen, but thats it, im not prompted to 9. Press and hold the Action button (joystick middle button) for 2 seconds as instructed.

i dont know when to start holding down the d-pad key... as soon as the white screen starts or at the color screen? or am i doing this all wrong?

If you cant do a Hard Reset, then try updating the software on your C500 using the Orange Update on their website. This will effectively Hard Reset the device whilst having the added bonus of updating your firmware if you havent done it already.

The canary screen has a different bootup process than the hard reset screen on the C500.

To hard reset :

Fully charge the battery.

Power off phone.

Hold down both soft keys (black keys)

Tap power button once and keep both soft keys held down.

You should then get a menu with a reset option.

so there's no other way to fix this other than a hard reset?

The only possible alternative is to run the ROM update, as Chaser81 points out above

But that involves a hard reset, which he points out above. What I meant was a way to fix the problem without having to restore factory settings, by any means at all.

In that case, no

Hi, newbie here, but have been reading on and off for a while.

Having problem with my C500 and it has been back with Orange for over 5 weeks now without any solution. What happens is that when it starts up the screen goes completely white and then stays like that for ages. I took it into an Orange store who sent it away to be fixed, and finally when I got it back (a saga in its own right...) I tested it in store and it still had the same problem!

Anyway, I had no other choice but to leave it with Orange again (despite being in a rage in the store as they have you locked into a contract despite supplying faulty goods).

But figured that someone here might have seen this before... sounds like this issue in this thread ???

On the older SPV's, the white screen was often related to the SD card (often caused by a dummy card inserted). Did you try booting up the C500 without the SD card ?

Hi Martin,

Yep, tried the phone without an SD card too, but same thing.

(Think I'm just more annoyed that Orange take no responsibility for this whatsoever... keep saying that if I had bought their insurance they would have replaced it immediately, but that since I didnt all they can do is send it away to the manufactuers. So maddedning...)

Thanks for you suggestion, though. Any other thoughts?

I have the white screen problem as well. The whole handset gets very hot and will not take charge from a USB source and only from the mains charger when off.

“Hard” Reset using the soft key/tap “on” method was unsuccessful and I also tried to reload the ROM update pack but had to overdcome the “Charge less than 50%” requirement. C500 still shows the same symptoms except the keypad now beeps indicating that the factory defaults are working.

Also tried with and without the SD and / or the SIM.

Help!!!!!
