The program you are looking for is called Microsoft Portrait. I was able to get it to work with excellent speed over WiFi and a Pocket PC. I was also able to get it to work with my C500 using USB via Activesync on the PC. I have not tried it with bluetooth but see no reason for it not to work. Don't expect miracles just yet, I think it is to be the next step in MSN messenger for mobile devices. You are able to chat like you can in Messenger, but it's a bit flakey. The software doesn't like firewalls or proxies very much and if like me you are using Orange as an Service Provider, they block loads of ports so your phone won't connect to a remote PC via GPRS.

However, If Microsoft pull it off and get it working with the phone networks, then you will be able to Videophone and Chat ANYONE and not just those with a 3G service :)

good luck, here is the link;

You can't get the phone to connect with Bluetooth ?

Put "Bluetooth" into the Search function above, author "Confucious" and section "Help & Advice" and you'll get all the help you need. :)

I only wondered if it would be an easy thing to do to save me going and buying a webcam. :)

Hello all  Ik got MS Portrait to work on my C500 (it took me a copied proper install from another C500 to get it to work) and I've established 2-way microphone and speaker connections.

However, I see no way to get the camera on my c500 to send images using MS portrait. Under tools I can active the speaker (receive sounds), microphone (transmit sounds), but there's no option to transmit images.

Any thoughts?

For those trying to install on a Smartphone 2003 version.

The readme.txt says that "if your installing on a Smartphone", you must copy the PortraitSP.cab file manually because it will try to install the PocketPC version by default.

So what you need to do is,

1. double click on the installer.. After the installation failed, go to the installation directory on your PC.

2. Manualy copy PortraitSP.cab to your Smartphone.

3. Use a FileExplorer to execute the .cab file on your Smartphone.

However please let me know if this program works because I keep getting a message saying "Failed because of security policy" (I dont know why because i have application unlocked phone as far as I know.).

Cheers,

edge

Thanks for the tip Seth, I managed to install the cab file without any problems using Jeyo, however I'm now in the same boat as you, I'm not getting any video. It looks like portrait isn't picking up the internal camera.

looking on the site it shows the following cameras as being supported.

Version 2.21 or above supports Lifeview FlyCAM-CF camera, FlyJacket iCAM, Pretec CompactCamera and Intermec 6651 built-in camera, HP Photosmart Mobile Camera and Hitachi G1000 Pocket PC Phone Built-In Camera, Veo Traveler for Pocket PC Camera, Eten P300 Pocket Phone Built-in Camera in addition to HP Jornada Pocket Camera. Please follow these cameras installation instructions. No additional steps are needed for running Microsoft Portrait.

Microsoft Portrait doesn't support video on smartphones.

I can't get the mic on the C500 to work on GPRS or Bluetooth network either.

So it's not worth it to have Portrait on your smartphone
