C500 GPRS problems on Virgin Mobile

I have just purchased a c500 and am really happy with it. The phone was originally on Orange PAYG but I am now running it on Virgin Mobile.

The only problem I have discovered since switching networks is that I can no longer use GPRS. I have deleted the orange GPRS settings and replaced them with virgin settings but all I get when I try to connect is "ERROR Unable to place call" sometimes followed by "unable to connect, Verify network coverage and try again."

After trying the settings recommended by virgin (see below) I tried many of the settings posted around the web and even tried using MPx200, SPV, E100 and E200 settings via the autosetup service on the virgin website.

Note: I have not seen any DNS settings for Virgin, are these settings not needed?

Settings recommended by Virgin

Name: Virgin WAP GPRS

IP Address: 193.030.166.003

Username: user

Password: (none)

Homepage: Virgin Mobile Bites

Server Address: http://www.virgin.com/mobile/wap/

Also is there a way of removing all the orange branding and features from the phone.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the speedy reply Jim. I tried removing the address and changed the password but got the same error.

This has been annoying me for 3 days now, someone please help me out so I can really enjoy my new phone.

Thank you for your reply. GPRS is enabled and I have used it sucessfully on a Nokia 7600. I have tried all the settings listed below but with no luck.

I think I have put in all the details correctly but I have attached a few screenshots to make sure.

What did you mean by "done", "done twice" and "done 3 times"?

I am going to know this phone inside out by the time I have sorted this one out.

I've tried all the different sets of connections on my c500, but none of them work.

For MMS, I get "not all messages could be sent", and for browsing the internet, I get "connecting", then "finding site", then some time after "the page you are looking for cannot be found".

I've tried so many different setups now I think I'll wait for Virgin to get their act together with the proper settings for the c500.

There must be someone out there that has got their c500 running GPRS on Virgin Mobile. I know that there is nothing wrong with the network and that the settings worked fine on my 7600 yet the c500 refuses to connect.

Does anyone know if there are any Orange settings within the phone that could be interfering with the Virgin connection.

Thats a great post. I've entered all the above and got emial, internet and messenger working great.

Only thing is that I still get a text when someone sends me a media message and I then have to go on line to see it. I looked on the Virginmobile web site and it said you need to send a media message to activate the service on your account.

So I tried to send one, and it was sending for ages, only to fail and cost me £1.30 instead of the 30p stated by Virgin.

Any ideas why everything else is working except MMS?

Thanks for any ideas ;)

Hi BanziBarn,

We had a similar problem with Virgin. Sending one MMS and getting charged for loads! After phoning their customer support they acknowledged a problem with multiple charging, and refunded the money to our account. That was a few months ago. It's worrying if they've still got the same problem!

Simon.

Well, in my case the MMS didn't even send so I think this may be a slightly different issue

Don't really need MMS, and everthing else is working so I'm just leaving it I think - but I do like to know that everything is working ;)
