Guest squall Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 How about this for a smartphone! Ok ok i know concept designs never make it into production but I think this is interesting all the same! Note the 3gig hard disk - whats better a hard disk or sd card? SD cards are now at 2 gig! Magneto is the code name for the next smartphone os A third camera phone from Samsung (code named 'Thor') has had its details leaked again as a powerpoint slide. This one has a 1 megapixel camera. The Samsung Thor features: - 3 Gbyte HDD - MS Smartphone Magneto - Triband/GPRS Class 10 - Intenna - Dimension: 1113 x 48 x 21mm (160 grams) - Display: 262k TFT 240 x 320 - MMS/MIDP 2.0/CLDC 1.1/WAP 2.0 - Bluetooth 2.0 - USB 2.0 - 1 Megapixel Camera - OTA/Online Music Service - H.263/MPEG4/AMR/AAC+/MP3 - Jog Shuttle Navigation Source Livingroom.org
Guest nedge2k Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Ok ok i know concept designs never make it into production... er...have you seen the new Astra? Nice concept anyway :)
Guest Vector Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 er...have you seen the new Astra? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed, that car is hot :)
Guest Jakob Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 HDD is not a good idea - is uses much to much power - and with 2gig SD cards for 150$ (or so) there“s no point in using HDD. Btw - I believe one other reason for using MiniSD to the standard SD, is that MiniSD only consumes 50% of the energy reading/writing. But that said - This phone looks specwise awesome. :) :( :( :( :D :P  /J
Guest ChrisJM Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Yea, but its an extra! id rather a big HD!
Guest squall Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 hard drivers are slooowww to access, but it would be nice for the future, ie 10gb or 40 gb hd in your phone!
Guest ChrisJM Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 yea, i suppose it would be quicker with an SD/MiniSD/Memory Stick but id still like a big hd :)
Guest jfran Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 make it UMTS compliant and then I will sing its praises, not worth getting another handset at present unless it spports 3G... rgds jim
Guest squall Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 er i totally disagree. 3g needs at least another year to develop before it will be a must have on a handset! Still i think we will see a windows mobile smartphone announced mid year that will have 3g (and it wont be small!)
Guest Pigo Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 nice looking phone... in both specs & looks. but one thing puzzles me. Why have a big screen and not make it a touchscreen? keeps the size down and makes a phone more fun :) Pigo
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 It's qVGA and will be the sameish size as any other Smartphone screen, just higher resolution like the VGA PPC's you can now get. Smartphone will never be touchscreen...(one handed use only :))
Guest Pigo Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 ahaaa that explain's a lot!! Looks cool though! wouldn't mind having a go with it. Pigo
Guest Confucious Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Haven't MS asked you to remove this het? After all it is WM2005 (Shhhh!) :D
Guest squall Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 no that applied specifically to the news article based on the neowin text and screenshots.
Guest Confucious Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 (edited) But you can see the screen on this phone! MS will send the heavies round if you don't blank it out  Edited January 22, 2005 by Confucious
