Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 More news coming in from 3GSM already, and that is that TomTom will be releasing an updated version of their 'TomTom Mobile' Smartphone Navigation Product, version 5, and also offering a new GPS unit! Pictured below (picture from GPSPassion), the unit features the new SiRFStarIII chipset, which promises dramatically improved performance in urban canyon environments and even indoors, and improved power efficiency! Watch this space for updates on this story as we get them... P Thanks Alex for the correction!
Guest inspectorgadjet Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 I knew it!! I just knew it!!! The same day I decide 'what the heck i want one of those' a new version is announced. Good thing I didn't actually buy yet. I will just wait for the new software before I buy now.
Guest digger Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 They have a picture of Tom Tom mobile 5 on the C500 on their site. Looks like they will finally acknowledge that it works now!!
Guest jpa Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 more information here (sorry it's in french and my english is too bad to translate this article, maybe a member can do it ?) TomTom Mobile 5 (from Maubinaute)
Guest mcwarre Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=69 The GPS battery lasts all day apparently. I wonder if they do upgrades? The benefits I can see are: • Find the quickest route with an estimated time of arrival • Route planning: for fastest, shortest, pedestrian, bicycle and moped routes • Postcode support (UK & Netherlands only) • Full integration into the mobile phone menu to allow navigation to a destination from the contacts stored in a mobile phone • Supports real-time traffic and weather alerts • Full itinerary support, plan routes to multiple destinations and add stopping points on the journey • Download extra maps as and when they are needed Hope their maps are a bit more upto date than present ones.....
Guest mcwarre Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 PS... "the ability to make calls while continuing to get visual route instructions" Now that is a really useful feature. Could do with a visual indication of speed on the routing view tho'
Guest nedge2k Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 So it still doesnt show the bloody speed then!!??

Guest Fozza Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Well thats gonna P a lot of us off, how long has TT Mobile been on the market?? http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=69&Language=1 I hope they offer upgrades at a sensible price to you guy's. Rik <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you dig around on the Tom Tom site you find this! Fingers crossed it ain't too expensive. Postcode functionality would be wicked in the UK. It is my biggest and only complaint Question Can I upgrade TomTom MOBILE to TomTom MOBILE 5? Answer An upgrade program for existing customers will be announced soon. Keep an eye on our website and newsletter for more information. Click Here to register for the TomTom newsletter.
Guest Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Hope they let you download updated maps. Perhaps if you've bought TTM in hte past x months get it free, otherwise a nominal charge.
Guest FragMeister Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 I see that if you got TomTom Navigator 2 for PPC then you can get a free upgrade if you bought it in jan 2005, and a scale of reduced upgrades for people buying it before then. Dont know if the same is true for TomTom Mobile though!!
Guest squiggs1982 Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005  Yup, I'll be mighty miffed if I've just shelled out £180 and there's no upgrade path.
