Guest McHale Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 When you go to the update page: http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/hellomoto/...0,0,0,0,0,0,0); they have this image instead of the download link: "We are sorry. The update tool is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." I doubt this has anything to do with a newer FW update as they would have just left the 1.30 until the new one was available and linked to that. More as I find out... -Mc

Guest dchester Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 It's back now <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wonder if they are updating it so that we can get a newer revision of firmware.
Guest MadSci Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I wonder if they are updating it so that we can get a newer revision of firmware. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Still showing the most current version to be 1.30.0.0 Is there a sign up list where we can PRAISE Moto for doing this? I for one have been an unimportant but harsh critic of the way they abandoned purchasers of the MPx200. Now that they have seen teh light for MPx220 customers, I think we need to shout their praise to the rooftops so Management will get the hint. MadSci
Guest Akino Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 mine Manufacturer: 1.110.0.0 izit old or newer?
Guest Marc McHale Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Update tool still unavailable. Anyone got any ideas? I have 1.3 as I bought the pone from the states and it is cingular branded. I want to "unbrand" the phone. Any ideas how i might be able to get the unbranded firmware? Thanks Marc
Guest scepterr Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I put the update tool on my site so anybody who didn't get it, still can. 8) I'll leave it up there for a week so get it while its there. Moto MPx220 Update Tool
Guest McHale Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 does the tool still work if you try it now? Also, if you haven't run it yet and you don't have 1.30, DON'T UPGRADE YET! We need to copy a file of your phone that identifies your phone as a cingular phone so maybe we can get this working on AT&T phones... -Mc

We have 2 Mpx220s here, and one of them hasn't been upgraded yet (.325 firmware).
Guest McHale Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Check out this thread to see what I'm talking about: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=201387&hl= The file is systeminfo.xml The theory is, we can slap the Cingular version on any other phone (a.k.a. AT&T) and fool the upgrade utility to think we're flashing a Cingular phone. Thanks! -Mc p.s. if this works, Freakstone will get a lot of praise on here!
Guest Paraklas Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 The file is systeminfo.xml Did anyone send you anything? My mpx sits here and I have 6 people here that want it so bad.. Started running out of excuses :D :D

The PC I normally use (at home) has performed the upgrade on one phone already. Do you know if this will cause any issue for what you want, or do I need to use a different PC? I'm a little leary because I do NOT want to upgrade this other phone right now. The person (my son) uses it a lot for playing MP3s, and I noticed on mine, that the MiniSD card has intermitantly become flaky (especially right after rebooting) since I upgraded mine (it was rock solid on the .325 rev). He's very happy with it (no complaints about the volume), so I'm waiting until further firmware revs to come out before I upgrade it. Although I like some of the tweaks that 1.3 did, the my Sandisk MiniSD card doesn't work flawlessly like it used to on .325. When it acts up, I have to keep going in and out of it on File Manager until it displays everything, at which point it's good to go, unless I have to reboot or something.
Guest McHale Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 you can run the update tool and it will run the checker. You don't have to update it. You can simply unplug the cable. And since my phone was already 1.30, I'm not sure if the .xml file is on the phone or on the PC. The important thing is running it, let the checker check, *THEN* copy the file we need before you run the update. As far as 1.30, I've had .325, .342, and 1.30. All have been great but each have gotten better as they went along. The miniSD thing could be a simple fix. Reformat it and try it in the 1.30 phone and it should be good. I noticed when I went from .342 to 1.30 I had the same issue. I reformated it and it's been fine since. I know they are working on the next update so there should be one. I'm really hoping we find a way to fool the updater to run on any phone regardless of FW. At least it would bring the AT&T people up to date once and for all and get it ready for the Cingular network if they haven't switched yet. Also, I've heard some people say that running the update unlocks the phone. Sweeeeeeeet. -Mc
Guest Paraklas Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Hey when I try to update my mpx220 Cingular, it goes until the last steps and then for some reason it freezes. The usb driver seems to be mulfunctioning for some reason. Anyone had the same problem? It has the 0.25 firmware. McHale I have the oldest cingular mpx220 cingular systeminfo.xml file. Anyone who wants to test it if it works for at&t phone here it is.systeminfo.xml
Guest riven Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Quick question for McHale... I've got an unbranded MPx220, I'm assuming EU version because the ROM is 1.15. Do you know if this is the latest ROM for the EU version. I've only had one other person say so, but its always nice to get some consenting opinions. If it would help, I'd post my systeminfo.xml file here, but its similar to one you referenced earlier. ::cheers::
Guest McHale Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 I've heard that it is. If that's the case, that would indicate that the versions between 1.15 and 1.30 would be carrier related. Did you get it at eXpansys? I'm curious where these are coming from... I know they got them AFTER 1.30 was released. Paraklas, when you say .25 do you mean .325? .325 was the first OFFICIALLY released ROM. All earlier ROMS were beta release only and I have *NO* idea if the update utility will work on those. Thanks for posting it either way... AT&T users, feeling lucky? :D -Mc
Guest Paraklas Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Sorry for the mistake! The firmware was 0.325. I have upgraded it to 1.30 but the camera quality is so bad that I'm trying to convince myself that it does not exist. I have to say that the 0.343 AT&T had a WAYYYY better camera quality & louder sound than the upgraded 1.30 Cingular. Any ideas?

They're not too bad, but have only dealt with them once. I've done searches on eXpansys, but the people there aren't too sure if that's the latest (going by the forum posts). It DOES sound that way... I've tested my phone a bit since I got it, and although the sound is not always as loud as I would like it to be, it doesn't seem to be as bad as most others have posted it to be. I'll post the systeminfo.xml file tonight when I get home. (At work right now).
Guest McHale Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Sorry for the mistake! The firmware was 0.325. I have to say that the 0.343 AT&T had a WAYYYY better camera quality & louder sound than the upgraded 1.30 Cingular. Any ideas? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had the first .325 when it came out. I had no problems, the camera was so-so, I had no problem with the volume. .342 came out and Cingular sent it to me in exchange for .325. Camera was noticeably better and the volume was louder. 1.30 came out so I called again, did the full exchange and the camera is now awesome (no, really) and the volume was louder again. I have heard both sides from people doing the update. Some say after doing it that everything is better and some say it is actually worse. I'm assuming the hardware is the same on your .325 as my 1.30 but it is possible I guess. That's the only way I could explain any differences... If you're taking photos and you're not on a sunny beach, put it in Night mode. It makes a difference. -Mc
