Guest valerebel Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Hi Guys I had my official TomTom bluetooth GPS receiver nicked and I need a replacement but I have been reading that the mobile version of TomTom will only work in conjuction with TomTom branded BT GPS units. Can anyone confirm if this is true of has anyone used a different brand of GPS? I would prefer to buy a different brand for better battery standby times, 6 hours is poor and you can get upwards of 16 hours with some. Any feedback welcome. Cheers VALEREBEL
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 There is one hell of a TomTom GPS nicking spree going on, what is the world coming to? Some other makes of GPS units do work ie the Fortuna Clipon for example.
Guest beersoft Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Ive noticed that there are alot of tt gps going missing now days i'll have to ask someone on the criminal unworld what they are doing with them all. and house insurance or car insurance is always a good way to get your £140+ gps replaced later Owen
Guest valerebel Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 (edited) Cheers What are you trying to say? Is the Fortuna ClipOn the only one? I was rather hoping that AMBEON BLUETOOTH GPS would be compatible as it uses Nokia Lithium batteries and has a damned good battery life too. Please post all tried and tested compatibles here guys. Much appreciatd. VALEREBEL ;-) Edited March 1, 2005 by valerebel
Guest Confused Stu Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Seeing as one of my girlfriends' relatives bought a dodgy copy of TomTom's software (for his old Nokia Communicator!) off ebay I think I can answer why the GPS units are being pilfered! I only found out about it when the prat brought the CD over and asked me to get it to work. Do you have a memory card? No. Do you have a GPS receiver? No. Bless him - he ain't bright! :D
Guest Miniman99 Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I've got a Fortuna Clip On (set to Xtrac mode), I had to change the name to TomTom Wireless GPS, but it sync'd up fine and works well. My car insurance would certainly not be a great way of replacing the GPS unit because the excess is too much.
